25.05.2006Microsoft Redefines "Vista Capable" as Minimum Experience

branding new computers with a

Vista Home Basic. Although
Microsoft strongly refutes

its description of the Windows
Vista Capable program from:
" Through the
Windows Vista Capable program,
Windows XP-based PCs that are

leading PC manufacturers

Windows Vista and can run the
core experiences of Windows
Vista ."
to
" A new PC running
Windows XP that carries the
Windows Vista Capable PC logo
can run Windows Vista. All
editions of Windows Vista will
deliver core experiences such
as innovations in organizing
and finding information,
security, and reliability. All
Windows Vista Capable PCs will

09.04.2007Microsoft bails on virtualization licensing changes for Vista

20.06.2007Official Way to Use Vista without Activation 120 Days
Official Way to Install and
Use Windows Vista without
Activation for Free for 120
Days
By default,
Windows Vista can be
installed, used and run
without any license, product
key or the need of activation
for 30 days grace period, for
purpose of trial or
evaluation. Although Microsoft
initially stressed that users
should purchase a license with
valid product key before the
trial period expires, or else
Windows Vista will lock into
Reduced Functionality Mode.
However, a "rearm" method
has long since been discovered
to be able to extend, or reset
the remaining time for
activation to another fresh 30
days, for up to 3 times.
Now Microsoft has
confirmed that Windows Vista
can be used and run for 120
days or 4 months ( 3
rearms ), and extending the
activation grace period is not
a violation of the Vista End
User License Agreement (EULA).
All versions of Vista include
Windows Vista Ultimate allow a
30-day free period without
activation, except the
corporate-oriented Vista
Enterprise, which supports
only a three-day trial.

Microsoft may not have enabled this by default because of potential hardware issues, but that doesnt make sense because the minimum video card

with the "Aurora" bootscreen...

It is well known that Windows 7 is a huge step up from Vista as well as XP. It allows users with computers that could barely run Vista to run 7 much
faster and more efficiently. It is relatively safe to say, that Windows 7 will be the 1st version of Windows, that does not constantly remind you
that you need to upgrade your computer. Since the 1st beta was released a few months ago, I have done around 25-30 installs of Windows 7. On every
type of system, from a 3 Ghz quad core system, to a 1.3 Ghz single core laptop. On every single one of those installs Windows 7 greatly improved
performance and reliability.

30.10.2006Vista Capable scandal
Many will remember a few years back before the launch of Vista, Microsoft decided to tout some PC's as Vista capable. This seemed an innocent and
easy way to boost sales but what happened is a different story. The Vista capable idea was a genuine one at heart. It was designed to allow
consumer to buy new PC's with confidence that the new computer would run the latest version of Vista when it launched. The idea was genius for
Microsoft, they could sell more PC's (indirectly getting sales of the OS and software) and have consumers know they would be able to upgrade with
confidence. What happened was that Intel got in the way.

18.11.2008The Unexpected: Battery Life in OS X vs. Windows Vista
AnandTech has done a thorough review of the new Macbook and Macbook Pro including comparing battery life performance of Vista vs. OS X on the

Obviously the X300 doesn't run OS X, but the MacBook Air can run Windows so I compared battery life between the two under Vista, which yielded some
unexpected results.
There are no scripted battery life tests under OS X, while under Vista we have things like MobileMark -
luckily, the tests I've put together for OS X can easily be reproduced under Vista. Let's take a look at my tests under OS X...
