I hate Macs
Unless you have been walking around with your eyes closed, and your head encased in a block of concrete, with a blindfold tied round it, in the dark - unless you have been doing that, you surely can't have failed to notice the current Apple Macintosh campaign starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, which has taken over magazines, newspapers and the internet in a series of brutal coordinated attacks aimed at causing massive loss of resistance.

12.12.2008Bang On: It's easy to hate the Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 has had quite a poor record when it comes to build quality. My experience with Microsoft's wonder console does little to change what
so many people already know: The Xbox 360 is more fragile than paper-mâché in a rain storm. It's almost as though simply glancing at
the console in the wrong way can send it into cardiac arrest. It's just so easy to hate it. I've already complained about my excruciatingly
frustrating experience with Xbox support, so we can all rejoice in the fact that this tale does not include any dealings with them. Working for a
major retailer, I've had the extended warranty, from the store, since day one.

24.03.2009Facebook kills anti-Muslim group
Facebook has disabled an anti-Islamic group called "I Hate Muslims in Oz" after the issue was brought to their attention by CNet's Chris
Matyszczyk. Facebook's stance toward Holocaust-denying groups is more ambivalent. The company's terms of service prohibit content that is
"hateful" or "threatening", and, according to Matyszczyk, Facebook does not consider simply denying that the Holocaust happened to be "hateful"
or "threatening". Facebook's Barry Schnitt clarifies the situation: "We disabled the 'I Hate Muslims in Oz' group a day or so ago
because it contained an explicit statement of hate.

11.06.2009EU MPs to ISPs: Take hate sites offline
A group of European Parliament
members have submitted a draft
declaration to the European
Parliament requiring ISPs to
better monitor the content of
the sites they host in order
to keep hate speech off the
web. The five European (from
the UK, Hungary and Germany)
MPs sponsoring the declaration
would like to see racism and
hate speech banished from the
Internet completely, starting
with Europe. Should European
ISPs not go along, the MPs
will try to get the European
Commission to enact
legislation on the issue. The
MPs hope the EC uses the Safer
Internet Plus program, which
intends to " promote safer
use of the Internet "
while fighting against
" illegal content and
content unwanted by " end
users.

03.12.2008Don't worry, iPhone hackers: Apple doesn't hate you
It's really an ethical dilemma for the ages. On one hand, you love your shiny new Apple toy so much, you just have to hack in new functionality, on
the other hand you can't bear to think that the mighty Steve Jobs thinks ill of you and your hacker ways.
Well now you can
finally put those fears to rest, because Apple's
Greg Joswiak has officially confirmed a "neutral" stance on the iPhone hacking issue. That is to say, Apple doesn't plan to maliciously attempt to
break native, third-party applications in forthcoming firmware updates, but at the same time Apple won't go out of its way to ensure those updates
don't break third-party applications accidentally, and certainly isn't offering support to the hackers of any kind. We'd say it's a step above
"frenemy," but not quite to the point where Steve'll be demoing Jailbreak at his next keynote.

05.12.2005Boeing kills 'Dreamliner' Wireless Network Plans
Boeing Co. has announced that
it has cancelled wireless
network plans for in-flight
entertainment on its 787
"Dreamliner" airplane
(planned for August 2007). A
wireless network would add 200
pounds per plane as opposed to
the 50 pounds needed for a
wired network. Another
obstacle was countries not
giving Boeing permission to
use certain wireless
frequencies. Boeing would have
worked on the weight problem,
but decided against it because
of the spectrum issue:
" Knowing that the
regulatory issues were
basically insurmountable, it
just did not make sense to
apply those resources
there ," a spokeswoman
named Lori Gunter said. She
declined to say which
countries were unwilling to
approve the use of the
frequencies, although she
slipped that the U.S. was not
among them. She also declined
to say how much the company
had spent on the wireless
network, but denied it being
wasted as the research and
development can serve the
wired network which is being
supplied by Panasonic and
Thales Group.

26.01.2007Asus Offers up Its Second Generation UMPC
Asus has decided it is time to
replace the R2H, which the
company launched last year
with a price tag under
$1,000 USD. The R2H
features a 900MHz Celeron M
ULV processor, 768MB of DDR2
memory, 7" (800x480) LCD,
60GB hard drive, Bluetooth
2.0+EDR, WiFi and GPS
capabilities. The second
generation UMPC from Asus will
be the T83, featuring the same
7" LCD with a resolution of
800x480, a smaller 30GB HDD
and only 512MB of memory. On
the plus side, the 900MHz
Celeron M ULV processor was
replaced by a 1GHz Via C7-M
processor. Asus also added a
swivelling LCD housing and a
traditional small QWERTY
keyboard complete with
trackpoint and two mouse
buttons. Battery life has also
been increased from a paltry 2
hours on the R2H to 6 hours
with the T83.
Despite the feature cuts,
the T83 has managed to jump in
weight from 1.83 pounds to 2.1
pounds. The Asus T83 is
expected to retail between
$900 USD and $1,000
USD. Competition, also known
as the Samsung Q1 Ultra, is
expected to come in at around
$1,200 USD but will weigh
only 1.5 pounds and will
feature a split-QWERTY
keyboard, 7" (1024x600)
display, 800MHz Core 2
processor, 1GB of memory, 60GB
hard drive and dual cameras,
HSDPA and WiBRO.

16.03.2007'Zephyr' May Break Record for Longest Unmanned Flight
An unmanned solar-powered aircraft known as the "Zephyr" that soared for 54 hours more than 50,000 feet above New Mexico may hold the record for
unmanned flight, defense research company QinetiQ announced Monday, breaking the previous record of 30 hours, 24 minutes in a flight on July 23.
Unfortunately, QinetiQ's trapezoid-shaped, ultra-thin plane may not hold onto the record because the flight at the White Sands Missile Range in the
New Mexico desert was not witnessed by officials from the World Air Sports Federation, which keeps and certifies records, the company said.
Built from carbon fibers, the aircraft is 59 feet long and weighs about 66 pounds - light enough to be launched, by hand, by a team of three. It
uses paper-thin silicon panels to draw on the sun's power and stores the surplus in lithium-sulphur batteries, which power it through the night.
QinetiQ said Britain's Ministry of Defense had contributed several million pounds to the project, but the company declined to say how much it cost.
Possible future uses for the aircraft include surveillance and communications.
