Windows 7 build 7077 leaks

According to several reports from Neowin members, Windows 7 build 7077 has leaked to various torrent sites. Named as an RC escrow build it's likely that 7077.0.090404-1255 is the RC that will be modified to 7100 and distributed widely in May. Microsoft confirmed the 7100 path yesterday on its Engineering Windows 7 blog by advising users to modify the MinClient build number from 7100 to 7000 in order to enable beta to RC upgrades. It is now expected that Microsoft will name 7100 as the RC build and builds 7105 onwards will be the ongoing development branched towards RTM.

We expect MSDN/TechNet customers to receive the bits within the next week if the company is still targeting May 5th. According to reports, 7115.0.winmain.090421-1650 is the latest build internally at the time of writing.

Reports: Windows 7 has reached build 7079

Wzor is once again reporting that the Windows 7 winmain_win7rc branch has reached 7079. It appears that isn't the case and Microsoft has built 7078.0.090406-1758 and 7079.0.090407-1902 over the last few days. We still expect Microsoft to name the RC build shortly and all bets are on 7100. Last month Microsoft hinted at a May public release for the RC.

Review: Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 7000

In the market for a new wireless keyboard and mouse, looking to upgrade from my Microsoft Digital Pro Keyboard, I took a lot at Microsoft's Wireless Laser Desktop 7000. Keyboard and mouse response peripherals are important to all communication between the user and their computer, hoping that Microsoft got it right after mixed reviews on previous keyboard / mouse combos. The Keyboard: The keyboard has the Comfort Curve design keyboard that has a slight bend in the keys to make the feel of typing more comfortable to the user. The keyboard has a small 6 degree bend in the design to help improve typing from the average angle of a users shoulder to keyboard.

Windows 7 Release Candidate goes public... Oops

Tired of waiting for Microsoft to release the first (and likely only) release candidate of Windows 7? No worries, you can go and snatch it up now... via torrents. Earlier today, build 7100 of Windows 7, the official Release Candidate build, leaked to the public.

While no new visual elements stand out from previous builds, UI changes should no longer be expected this late in the game. Any changes from this point on will be, for the most part, behind the scenes. One notable change however is Microsoft's decision to revert back to the previous active tile design for the taskbar, as found in build 7068, as it no longer features the white hazy glow behind the icon.

The official release date of Windows 7 RC is expected to be May 5th for the public, and slightly earlier for TechNet and MSDN subscribers.

Have you found anything new in this build? Share it with us in our community forums...

Update: Microsoft now says the RC will be available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers on April 30th.

Windows 7 RC gets its first bug, and it's a doozy

The first documented bug in the Windows 7 Release Candidate (build 7100) is a doozy.

Yesterday, Microsoft published Knowledge Base article 970789, which provides details of a problem that affects the 32-bit (x86) English-language version of Windows 7 build 7100. Intel phasing out Dempsey and Paxville MP server processors

Intel plans to announce the phase out date for its Xeon 5000 series (Dempsey) 2-way server processors in July, while its Xeon 7000 (Paxville MP) series 4-way server processors is scheduled to be phased out by August of this year, according to sources at server makers.

With the low acceptance of Dempsey and Paxville MP processors in the server market, the phase-out plan will assist Intel in simplifying its product lines and will benefit server vendors and ODMs, noted the sources.

Intel is currently pushing its Xeon 7100 series processors (Tulsa) in the 4-way server market, while pushing its Xeon 5100 (Woodcrest) and Xeon 5300 (Clovertown) series processors in the 2-way server market and its Xeon 3000 (Conroe) and Xeon 3200 (Kentsfield) series processors in the 1-way server market, according to the sources.

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 Review

In four words, Microsoft describes their latest desktop mouse as comfortable, wireless, rechargeable, and extraordinary. Has Microsoft ever been wrong?

Even the editors at ExtremeTech who prefer the horsepower of gaming mice couldn't help but humble themselves and like this desktop rodent. They attribute much of the 7000's success to its comfortable design and long feature set (buttons, software hacks, etc.). Sadly, the mouse is for righties only, so southpaws will still have to stick with their symmetrical mouse in the meantime.

NY family has to pay the RIAA $7,000 after court case

The most loved organization in the world, the RIAA, has won a case against a New York family for illegally downloading music. The case was originally filed against Patricia Santangelo, 46, a mother of five, who resides in Wappingers Falls, N.Y but was later dropped and re-filled against her two sons. Rather than taking the settlement agreement the two sons and mother decided to fight the RIAA and nearly $15,000 was raised by online sympathizers to help fight the industry. The result, nearly 4 years later, is that the family will have to pay $7000.00 for songs downloaded that included "‘MMMBop' by Hanson and ‘Beat It' by Michael Jackson.
