An anxious crowd of VTP users hoping to get their hands on the next version of VTP has had their prayers answered today.
VTP9 has
officially been released. Back, and better than ever, VTP9 is sure to be an eye-popper, even for those who have already been using VTP for years.

- Improved
versions of the highly acclaimed ViStart and ViOrb pair
- A more stable version of TrueTransparency (for emulating the transparent 'glass' we
all like in Vista
- 'Visplore,' a new file explorer that has a glass toolbar and built-in search
- Much, much more...
Perhaps some of the best improvements are a supposedly completely stable x64 installer, Windows XP SP3 compatibility and complete install
customization right in the installer.
Without further ado, JCXP presents you with Version 9 of Vista Transformation Pack!

Microsoft Hands out XP SP3 beta

As is standard practice for operating systems
nearing the end of their sales period, Microsoft will be releasing a final Service Pack for Windows XP in the first half of 2008. Microsoft is pleased
to announce the availability of Windows XP Service Pack 3 Beta Preview, to Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 beta testers.

Therefore it will be quite fitting to see the final Service Pack for XP arguably one of the most stable platforms Microsoft has

Vista SP1 x86 appears on Torrent Sites
In the last few days, certain Neowin forum members have reported that an image of Vista SP1 x86 Final has leaked to torrent sites. This file is
supposedly a slipstreamed image of the final Service Pack 1 for Vista x86. It is allegedly available in various languages, including English. Since
many believe that this is indeed the download that Microsoft will provide in the upcoming weeks, I would like to emphasize that this is not the case.
This release is not official, nor is it genuine. I repeat: Vista SP1 has not gone final.
Neowin members are reporting that the file in
question may be SP1 Refresh 2 slipstreamed or simply a malware-filled release. I would like to remind our members not to post links to any Vista SP1
build, unless it comes directly from Microsoft’s servers.

25.10.2008Admin Pack replacement to be available for Vista after SP1 RTM
Two days ago Kevin Remde from
Microsoft posted about there
not being an Admin Pack that
will run on Windows Vista for
administering Windows Server
2008 servers. He did this
after learning this from
another blog, and during
e-mail discussion threads.
The recommendation was to use
RDP (Terminal Services)
instead. Fortunately, there is
a group that is indeed
building a replacement:
The final word was finally
passed down from the group who
are building a new tool to
replace the Admin Pack for
running on Vista, and I have
received their permission to
repeat it here. Here is the
verbatim quote:
The new feature with
codename Remote Server
Administration Tools (RSAT
Client) for managing WS08 from
Vista SP1 Business, Enterprise
and Ultimate will be released
as an OOB
component shortly after Vista
SP1 RTM. In the meantime, you
can leverage the Admin Pack
for managing WS03 servers
remotely (Instructions Here:
http://support.microsoft.
com/kb/930056). The old Admin
Pack will not work against
WS08, though.
So.. that's good news!
You can use the Admin Pack to
manage WS03 servers, or you
can use the new Remote Server
Administration Tools (which I
understand will be much like
the ones added to "Longhorn"
Beta 3) when they become
available, on Vista SP1.

Google complains (again), asks for final release date of Vista SP1
A week after Microsoft
announced it would amend
Windows Vista so that its
integrated Instant Search
functionality wont hamper the
performance of third-party
desktop-search programs,
Google has complained to the
government again.
In
a new,
seven-page amicus brief a
copy of which Seattle
Post-Intelligencer reporter
Todd Bishop links to Google
is asking the U.S. Department
of Justices antitrust division
to force Microsoft to go
further.
From Googles
brief:
(F)rom what
Google understands of the
remedies, it appears that more
may need to be done to provide
a truly unbiased choice of
desktop search products in
Vista and achieve compliance
with the Final Judgment.
Google wants
Microsoft to have to provide a
firm date for the final
release of Windows Vista
Service Pack (SP) 1 since all
Microsoft has committed to
publicly so far is a first
beta before the end of
calendar 2007. (Ill second
that request!)..

Microsoft: Public Build of Windows Vista SP1 RC Soon
According to the Softpedia website, Microsoft is currently cooking the first public build of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Release
Candidate. Since the initial introduction of the first testing bits for the first service pack for Windows Vista in mid July, Microsoft has been
fending off and dodging in every way possible all references to the public availability of the refresh. In terms of the final release, the company has
pointed out the first quarter of 2008. And as far as a public version ahead of fully fledged service pack is concerned, Microsoft has failed breathing
a single word. When it comes down to the development milestones of Vista SP1, all things are quiet over at Microsoft.
But, the fact of the
matter is that a development milestone for Vista SP1 will be made public in the immediate future. Sooner than you might think in fact, and it will
involve the Release Candidate build of the service pack. "We'll broaden the testing pool of SP1 RC bits soon (very soon), so you'll be
able to put Windows Vista SP1 RC through its paces yourself. I think you'll find the experience worthwhile and satisfying," stated Nick
White, Product Manager at Microsoft with the Windows Vista launch team.
