"Dell has the ability to exercise 'Windows Vista downgrade rights' on your behalf in the factory if your business is still reliant upon
Windows XP and you'd prefer to have Windows XP Professional preinstalled on your PCs," according to their new downgrade policy section for XP.
"Downgrade Rights means that anyone with a Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate operating system can downgrade to Windows XP
Professional provided they have the media for Windows XP Professional."

23.02.2008Ten New Years Resolutions for the PC Industry
Happy New Years folks and that means it's time for New Years resolutions. We have some suggested resolutions for the PC Industry that will
help them...and us!
#1 To the PC Makers: Stop pre-loading shareware. Nothing is more annoying than getting a new PC loaded with "trial
versions" of programs. Just stop it.
#2 To Microsoft: Get Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista out there ASAP and make sure IE 7 doesn't
hang anymore for no apparent reason.
#3 To Apple: Get that 3G iPhone out the door sooner rather than later. GPS on it would be nice too.
#4 To the RIAA: Just stop it. I mean, seriously, just stop.
#5 To Jack Thompson: Get a new hobby. Better yet, get a life. In a
world in which one can't escape "The Girls Next Door" on TV are video games really a threat?
#6 To Google: Please make a Project
Management extension to Google Calendar!
#7 To the BluRay and HD-DVD consortiums, please find a way to work together. You're just
slowing down adoption (massively).
#8 To Amazon: Just because you think it might be patentable doesn't mean you should try to patent
it.
#9 To Bloggers: This year is the US Presidential Election. Just remember, just because someone doesn't agree with your political
opinion doesn't mean they're a bunch of sub-human monsters who eat babies.
#10 To Internet Users: Just remember that there is
another person on the other side of that screen. Just because they aren't there to punch you in the nose doesn't mean you should surrender any
semblance of civility on-line.
Have a Happy New Year!

20.10.2006Device driver updates causing Vista to deactivate
After weeks of gruelling troubleshooting, Ive finally had it confirmed by Microsoft Australia and USA -- something as small as swapping the video card
or updating a device driver can trigger a total Vista deactivation.
Put simply, your copy of Windows will stop working with very little
notice (three days) and your PC will go into "reduced functionality" mode, where you cant do anything but use the web browser for half an
hour. Youll then need to reapply to Microsoft to get a new activation code.

24.10.2007Microsoft tries to stop Vista piracy monster
Microsoft has issued an update
to Windows Vista that's
intended to stop a piracy
monster.
The
software maker said Thursday
that the update is aimed at
thwarting a technique that was
letting some people use
pirated versions of the
operating system without going
through the software's
built-in product activation.
Microsoft has dubbed the
approach "frankenbuild"
because it works by combining
test versions of Vista with
the final code to create a
hybrid version.
"Windows Vista will use the
new Windows Update client to
require only the
'frankenbuild' systems to go
through a genuine validation
check," Microsoft said on its
Windows
Genuine Advantage program
blog. "These systems will
fail that check because we
have blocked the (product)
keys for systems not
authorized to use them."
Although Vista was
only released to businesses
last month--and won't hit
retail shelves until late
January--it has been making
the rounds on the Internet,
and there have been several
reported hacks to bypass its
built-in security
mechanisms.

This could allow code execution on a

The User Account Control One of the highly criticized features in Windows Vista is the User Account Control(UAC) which prompts up a dialog box

which is created during the install, who is a protected administrator (unlike in XP where the user is an Administrator), could not bypass the UAC
