Despite the fact that Microsoft has expressed its official position regarding testing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 ahead of its finalization, there is simply too much of a hunger for the service pack.

8.4.2009Rumored New Vista plans
Paul Thurrott is launching an
interesting rumor today, this
time about Windows Vista's
release date. According to
him, the RC1 version of Vista
would be released in early
september, as opposite to
other rumors which said RC1
was around the corner and was
due anytime soon. RC1 would be
in this case, build 5520,
which has been placed into

The most interesting rumor
he reports is about Windows

escrowed in september, setting
at the same time an RTM

23.09.2006IE 8 RTM expected in the week of March 16, 2009
TechARP reported earlier that Microsoft will finalize its IE 8 RTM schedule on March 5 and the RTM version of IE 8 will be released during the final 2
weeks of March. Now TechARP has reiterated the dates a bit. According to the latest update by TechARP, Microsoft will RTM IE 8 in the week of March
16, 2009. The specific RTM date for the IE 8 will be announced in the week of March 9, 2009. TechARP is not sure whether this announcement would be a
public announcement, or an internal one. IE 8 is currently in RC1 and reached its RTM milestone on the 21st of February.

05.03.2009IE8 RTM expected in March
TechARP has predicted that Microsoft will reach IE8's RTM milestone in March during the last 2 weeks. TechARP expects so because Microsoft plans
to announce the final details of the IE8 RTM schedule and available language versions by March 5, 2009. The malaysian website also expects Microsoft
to determine a time frame for the public release of IE8 via Windows Update by March 8. There was a time gap of 8 weeks between IE7's RC1 and its
public release. A similar 8-weeks time limit applied to IE8's RC1 in January suggests the final build's availability around March 23 according
to TechARP.

07.10.2006RTM edition of Microsoft Hyper-V adds speed
The most notable -- and the most significant -- change between the initial release candidate version (RC0) of Hyper-V and the RTM edition is better
performance. Most of the performance work was done between RC0 and RC1, but not many people knew about it due to (a) not-so-wide a release and (b) a
ban on performance testing by Microsoft. The company just wasn't ready for it to be tested on a wide scale. The performance story between RC1 and RTM
is identical.
QLogic, a
vendor of storage-area networks (SAN) and other components, tested Hyper-V RC1 on one of its own host bus adapters (HBA), based on Fibre Channel.
QLogic hooked the HBA up to a storage array, to test the number of I/O operations per second supported by a virtual machine (VM) as opposed to real,
physical hardware. The results were impressive, and are equally so under RTM, as the underlying performance plumbing didn't change.

27.06.2008Microsoft to release IE8 RC1 next week
Microsoft is currently readying the release of Internet Explorer 8 RC1 for early next week, company sources indicate. In a blog posting by
Microsoft's Frank Olivier, the UX and Compatibility program manager confirms "we're about to release" IE8 RC1. Insiders indicate it might be
worth penning Monday 26th January in your calendar as the date for IE8 RC1. IE8 RC1 will not install on the current Windows 7 beta build (7000) and
it's rumored that Microsoft could be readying some new beta bits for connect testers in the coming weeks. The RC1 build will initially be offered
to Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems.

15.09.2006Microsoft acknowledges Vista SP1 Refresh 2 = RTM
Which build of Vista SP1 became the release to manufacturing (RTM) edition? This was definitely a topic of high speculation in the last few weeks,
even before SP1 hit the RTM milestone. Many were adamant that SP1 RTM was, or would be, different from the final release candidate, while those on the
other side grasped at straws to prove their suspicions. The Microsoft Watcher, also known as Mary Jo Foley, has finally received confirmation from
Microsoft that the Vista SP1 RTM build (6001-18000) is none other than Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2. The latest official statement from the software giant
is:
"RC Refresh 2 code is the same as RTM. In final stages of a product Microsoft likes to get as much validation as possible before
releasing. The release candidate ended up being a high enough quality to be approved to release to manufacturing."

07.09.2006Internet Explorer 8 RTM in March?
After having released Beta 1 in August or 2008, Beta 2 in March of the same year, and RC1 just last month, are they ready to ship the RTM version?
TechARP thinks so. They claim that "Microsoft is ready
to release Internet Explorer 8 to manufacturing (RTM) in the next few weeks." Microsoft previously mentioned that the RC1 build would be the last
testing build before RTM. That day has come and gone, so it only seems sensible that the RTM will follow shortly after.
With quotes such
as
"IE8 is clearly nearly ready for release. RC1 is stable and fast, and it contains a full feature set," and
"Microsoft has come a
long way with IE8 by pushing performance barriers, embracing Web standards, and adding a few new features," being
posted on the Windows Team Blog, it seems that people are finally impressed.
How about you? Among the list of
improvements over IE7 are:
- Extensive improvements in the areas of performance and reliability.
- Monetization opportunities (for
OEMs).
- Visual Search Suggestions, which offers the ability to configure a search provider and additional services into the IE8 search box to
search for shopping, news/portal sites, social networks, sports, etc.
- Web Slices and Accelerators, which are additional web services within
the IE8 monetization ecosystem, built specifically for IE8 by content providers. These services will be used by OEMs to deliver brand exposure and
content updates to the users.
- Enhanced user experience, greater user privacy, and security enhancements...

18.02.2009Windows Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V Beta Build Clarification
Just a quick note to anyone that plans on testing the new Windows Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V Beta. The build Microsoft posted
here is in
fact a much newer build than either the original Server 2008 RC1 or Vista SP1 RC1. While the original RC1 was Build 6001.17051 for Server 2008 and
6001.17052 for Vista SP1, the new Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V beta is substantially newer at 6001.17119 and may even contain further
stability/performance improvements to the actual OS so it may be worth checking it out even if you don't intend to test the Hyper-V bits. Also note
that due to Hyper-V being a 64-Bit OS only option, there is no 32-Bit build available of the newer Server 2008 RC1.

22.03.2009Windows Vista RC1 Download
Page Discovered
Only hours after Microsoft
released Windows Vista build
5536 to the public, their RC1
download page has been
discovered. The RC1 build,
which was, according to Paul
Thurrott, finalized yesterday,
is most likely
not there
yet, and since the download
ISO is approximately 3.12 GB,
it appears to be the Beta 2
version.
The page
is about the same as the
pre-RC1 download page but
removes the references to the
100000 copies limit, and, of
course, replaces the pre-RC1
terms for RC1.
Microsoft is expected to
make Windows Vista's first
Release Candidate available
broadly in early september,
and is already preparing it,
just after releasing its
preview build.
