04.05.2009IT managers share Windows Vista install plans
Few Windows shops had plans for Windows Vista migrations in 2007, and it appears that there may also be little interest well into next year.
Of more than 200 responses from IT managers to an online survey conducted by SearchWinIT.com, 37.3 % said they had no plans whatsoever in
place to install Vista, while 7.6 % said they would begin adding the new desktop OS in the first quarter of 2008, and 8.5 % expect to begin the
upgrade in Q2 2008.
Application compatibility was the primary concern for the IT shops, with 55.2 % citing it as the biggest
Vista upgrade issue. This was in line with the runner-up concern, third-party application support, which 48.5 % said is stalling their migration
plans.

30.11.2007Survey: Half 'Have No Plans' To Deploy Vista
Migration to the Windows Vista operating system apparently isn't generating much enthusiasm among IT personnel in the enterprise. A
survey conducted in November of last year by market research firm
King
Research supports that notion. The study found that "90 percent of participants have concerns about the migration to Windows Vista."
What's worse, from Microsoft's perspective, is that future plans to deploy Vista seemed stunted too. Roughly half (53 percent) of
respondents said that they "have no plans to deploy Vista at this time." Other plans for Vista included installing it for testing (18 percent), new
machines only (14 percent) and other uses (two percent). Just 13 percent said they planned to be fully deployed on Vista.

15.11.2006Businesses delay Vista plans until 2009
CIO Jury: "It could be a long wait"¦
Businesses remain unconvinced about the benefits of moving to Microsoft's Windows
Vista operating system and most are delaying any plans to upgrade until 2009 at the earliest.
One year after the business launch
of Vista, only one of silicon.com's 12-strong CIO Jury IT user panel said they had plans to move to the new OS in 2008.
Most
plan to stick with the stability of Windows XP and implement Service Pack 3 for that OS before they even start thinking about Vista.
Adrian Hughes, head of IS for insurance company Amlin, said: "We are sticking with XP and look to take XP SP3 in 2009. Vista not until 2011,
unless there is a good reason to migrate, by which time the next OS may be out so we would then skip a generation."

29.11.2007Survey: Vista Adoption Weakens, as IT Pros Eye Apple
A KACE-sponsored survey on Windows Vista adoption represents more bad news for Microsoft's flagship operating system, even as Microsoft prepares to
pour
an estimated $300 million into a new Vista marketing campaign -- news that
was announced at Microsoft's 2008 Worldwide Partner Conference.
<...> This survey found a slip in Windows Vista deployment
plans, with 60 percent of respondents saying that they had "no plans to deploy Vista at this time," compared with 53 percent in the 2007 survey.
The respondents also appeared to reject the "common wisdom" that people were simply waiting for Service Pack 1 to deploy Vista,
with the idea that initial bugs and incompatibilities would be worked out by then. A solid 92 percent of survey respondents said that "Vista Service
Pack 1 has not changed their plans for Vista deployment."

19.08.2005Microsoft won't ditch Vista until at least 2011
Even after the release of Windows 7, it looks like Microsoft won't be quick to ditch Vista according to Computer World. Microsoft plans to
continue selling Vista until January 2011. However, they will drop support for Vista in less than 3 years. This seems to go against an earlier hint
by a Microsoft General Manager that the company would get rid of Vista as soon as Windows 7 was released. However, Microsoft not ditching Vista as
soon as Windows 7 is released shouldn't come as a surprise. It's a company policy to keep an OS in distribution for 4 years after its debut.
So what do you think, Neowin?

05.05.2009IT Pros: If Not Vista, Maybe Macintosh
Vista can't seem to get a break. Yet another survey points to large numbers of businesses with no adoption plans. Oh yeah, Vista malaise may benefit
Mac OS X.
Today,
KACE Networks released the
study, which it commissioned King Research to conduct. KACE has vested
interest in Vista deployments, as the company is a provider of migration products and services. Seeing as stiff Vista resistance isn't necessarily
good for KACE, I'm not going to give the usual qualifiers for commissioned research.
The King Research study somewhat jives with
last week's Forrester Research report, which also indicated lots of
businesses are uncommitted to Windows Vista.
Fifty-three percent of the 900 IT professionals surveyed by King have no plans to deploy Vista. Forrester's survey put the number at 38 percent.
