Each new version of Windows has made significant improvements in the operating system's networking capabilities. Back in the days of Windows 95 and
Windows 98, networking was a complicated affair for technical experts only; you could set up and configure a network from within Windows, but it took
a lot of work. Things got much better with Windows XP, where networking became more or less a plug-and-play operationalbeit one that required a lot of
user interaction and didn't always work as promised.
With Windows Vista, things again have changed for the better. Microsoft
completely rewrote the networking stack in Vista, which means that networking not only is more reliable, it's also much easier to set up. In fact, in
most instances you don't have to do much setup at all; Windows Vista recognizes your network and equipment, and automatically configures the system
as necessary. (At least theoretically; networking in Vista can still be counterintuitive at times, and occasionally things don't work quite as
promised.)
This is good news if you're setting up a new network for your Vista-based computersbut also useful if you're
connecting a Vista PC to an existing network or Wi-Fi hot spot.

previous OS. Maybe it is not the most important or highest impacted issue occurs in Windows Vista, but I think it will impact some of you when you are
troubleshooting for your firendes/family... OK, let go through this issue.
This issue is about re-install network adapter in
Windows Vista and the KB article for this issue will be KB945399 and published in a few days. The issue can be reproduced in many computer models and
you will encounter it when you uninstall a network adapter device using Device Manager. Maybe you have to troubleshoot whether the network adapter
driver installed is right to troubleshoot OS network issue. Therefore, after uninstall the adapter, you may try to install another driver for the
device ... Everything works fine in Windows XP/Server 2003 and so on. However, when you try to do same action in Windows Vista, the popular OS
nowadays, you will see soon after the uninstall process completes, PnP detects the network adapter as a new device and automatically installs the
device and drivers. Instead, in Windows XP, only after you click to scan hardware change, the PnP will detect the network adapter and install the
driver.

If you think migrating to IPv6 is as simple as upgrading to Microsoft Windows Vista, think again.
Vista is the first operating
system from Microsoft that automatically installs and enables IPv6, the long-anticipated next generation of IPv4, the Internet's main communications
protocol. Even the biggest proponents of Vista, however, say enterprise customers will find rolling out the software's IPv6 capabilities is difficult
and time-consuming.
That's why Microsoft executives are urging corporate network managers to start testing Vista's
dual-TCP/IP-stack IPv6 implementation, which supports both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic, at least a year before putting it on a production network.
"This is a large upgrade. We're really looking at a lot of different moving parts. It's not just a matter of flipping a switch and
everything works," says Sean Siler, IPv6 program manager for Microsoft. "Not everything supports IPv6 throughout the entire network infrastructure.
You have to make sure you have the right management tools and the right security tools. It's a good thing to do a network inventory."

Brad Rutkowski: This was one issue I worked on for quite some time a few months ago. We found that Vista clients were taking forever to download
group policies from domain controllers in the regions while Vista SP1 and XP clients did not see the issue. If the local DC was running LH or Windows
2003 SP1, we didn't see any issue. If the server was running Windows 2003 SP2 though and had a certain type of hardware we would see the latency.
Based on customer reports, Windows Dev learned of more widespread devices in the network that dont understand greater window
scale factors. So, they improved the heuristics in SP1 for when to limit or disable auto-tuning, which is why we only saw in in Vista RTM and not
SP1.
The bug is in Windows 2003 SP2 and the details can be found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947773 So if you find that you have vista clients experiencing network
latency when hitting a Windows 2003 SP2 server (File server, DC, Exchange, etc) then you should look into this hotfix.
