18.05.2007Microsoft won't ditch Vista until at least 2011
Even after the release of Windows 7, it looks like Microsoft won't be quick to ditch Vista according to Computer World. Microsoft plans to
continue selling Vista until January 2011. However, they will drop support for Vista in less than 3 years. This seems to go against an earlier hint
by a Microsoft General Manager that the company would get rid of Vista as soon as Windows 7 was released. However, Microsoft not ditching Vista as
soon as Windows 7 is released shouldn't come as a surprise. It's a company policy to keep an OS in distribution for 4 years after its debut.
So what do you think, Neowin?

23.01.2007Microsoft dismissed enthusiasts in Vista marketing, company e-mails show
Spelling out which features of Windows Vista would work on a given PC might be useful to early adopters, but would only "confuse the masses," a
high-level Microsoft manager argued more then a year before the operating system shipped, according to internal company e-mails.
In a short exchange in November 2005, Brad Goldberg, then the general manager of the Windows product management group, dismissed a colleague's
suggestion that Microsoft work up documents listing what components and features of Vista would work on specific PCs slated to go on sale the
following year.

01.10.2007Vista or XP? How about both?
Scott Lowe: Now that Windows Vista SP1 is peeking out from around the e-corner, many śpre-SP1 adverseť organizations will probably begin the process
of evaluting Vista in their organizations. However, for the foreseeable future, there will be those that swear by Windows XP and its stability and
performance. So, whos right? Why not both?
As much as it will pain some to admit it, Vista does have some redeeming
qualities. And, for others, Windows XP continues“and will continue“to serve a very useful purpose in the enterprise. So, what are some of the
situations in which it might make sense to run both Windows Vista and Windows XP in the organization? And, what are the challenges involved in doing
so?

22.02.2008Microsoft: Vista customer satisfaction climbs
Microsoft Asia Pacific has responded to researchers' claims that enterprise chief information officers "have not warmed to the Vista operating
system over the past year." The northern hemisphere researchers said that the CIOs they recently surveyed voted 11 to one against plans to implement
Vista. The researchers concluded that "CIOs and other heads of IT still believe there is little business value in migrating from XP to Vista,
especially in the current economic climate." Richard Francis, General Manager, Windows Client Group, Microsoft Asia Pacific, said that, overall,
sales of Windows Vista licenses have passed 180 million since launch, and at least 100 million Windows Vista users have actively hit Windows Update.

08.12.2008Microsoft to simplify downgrades from Vista to XP
Microsoft is simplifying the
processes via which its
PC-maker partners will be able
to provide "downgrade"
rights from Windows Vista to
Windows XP for their
customers.
Microsoft
will implement the first of
the policy changes for its
Gold Certified (top-tier) OEM
partners within the next
couple of weeks. The company
will streamline
downgrade-rights policies and
procedures for the broader
channel somewhat later, said
John Ball, general manager of
Microsofts U.S. Systems Group.
Under current
licensing terms, Microsoft
allows customers buying PCs
preloaded with Windows Vista
Ultimate and Vista Business to
roll back to Windows XP until
they are ready to make the
move to Vista. For OEMs, the
process via which these rights
can be activated has been
quite cumbersome, Ball
acknowledged...
