10.07.2007Indonesia Blocks YouTube
Indonesia has become the latest in a series of countries to block popular video sharing site YouTube over content concerns. According to Sukemi, an
information ministry official, at least four Indonesian ISPs have blocked access to the site for carrying a Dutch lawmaker's film, titled
"Fitna", that accuses the Koran of inciting violence. The move follows a government ban on broadcasts of the film by Geert Wilders, leader of the
Dutch anti-immigration Freedom Party, which alternates images of the September 11, 2001 attacks and other Islamist bombings with quotations from the
Koran.
The four companies which have blocked access are: PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel), PT
Exelcomindo Pratama Tbk, and Indonet. Telekom had also previously blocked social networking site MySpace and is still looking for other sites and
blogs that have posted the film to block them, Eddy Kurnia, vice-president for public and marketing communication, said in a statement.

06.09.2006Google Makes FeedBurner MyBrand Free
Google is about making things
accessible to everyone and one
of the way to make this happen
is to buy a service or
software that used to cost
money and release it for free.
Google did this with
Keyhole (now Google Earth),
Picasa, SketchUp (only a
limited version is free),
Blogger PRO and one would
expect the same for
FeedBurner PRO.
According to
UnderGoogle, the
first visible effect of the

you can use the advanced
features of FeedBurner for
free, but only in a
15
-day trial: reach (the
unique number of people who
view or click your feed posts)
and stats for individual
posts. Just go to "
FeedBurner stats"
and enable the features that
used to be inaccessible until
today if you didn't want to
pay $5 a month for a
subscription. Unfortunately,
you still have to pay to have
them after the short trial
ends...

13.02.2008Remaining Ultimate Extra Language Packs Released
We are pleased to announce the release of the remaining 19 languages packs for Windows Vista Ultimate. This Ultimate Extras release brings the total
number of language packs for use with Windows Vista Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) to 35. Windows Vista Ultimate enables users install
multiple languages on their system and quickly switch between them by associating a system language with their login name.
MUI is
particularly useful in multilingual homes where multiple people use a single computer and choose different languages for their primary use. People who
wish to learn a new language will also find MUI to be a particularly useful feature. We are aware of a very large number of customers who have
purchased Ultimate for this feature specifically and are gratified that these customers can now realize the full benefit of Windows Vista Ultimate.
The languages we are adding today are as follows...

24.10.2007MapMyName
Two students from Computers
and Telecommunications
Engineering at University of
Aveiro, Portugal, want to
determine the number of
Internet users from all around
the world, within a month. The
project is called
MapMyName and will also
be able to name and pinpoint
the geographic location of
these web users.
Active since last week, the
MapMyName initiative was
presented via a short video
posted on YouTube, where the
creators explain the main
steps of the process.
According to Joo Ribeiro and
Srgio Veiga, when a user
signs up, he refers three
friends, who in turn can do
the same, creating a chain.
This way, based on a
mathematical formula, it will
be possible to determine the
number of web users existing
in the world within a
month.
After the
final count it will be
possible to view the number
and profile of the web users,
finding how many users exist
with the same name and being
able to plot the course of
someone in Aveiro who wants to
contact another person in
Tokyo, for example. Later, the
registered users of MapMyName
can use their "information
balloon" to identify
themselves in blogs and photo
and video sharing websites.

18.03.2009MISSING: Vista Ultimate Language Packs
If you thought the Ultimate Extras situation couldnt get any worse, then you have much to learn young Jedi, because rock bottom is only an illusion.
It appears that what was left of the Ultimate Extras - 16 language packs (I know, they are counted as extras) - have now been sucked into the void of
unknown.
Whether this is a widespread technical glitch or intentional symptom as a result of upgrades to the backend in
preparations for more and better Ultimate Extras remains to be speculated. Even if all my moneys on a technical glitch, there is still a quantum
chance the Ultimate Extras team will deliver on their latest promise to ship the final version of DreamScenes and the remaining 20 Language Packs
before the end of summer (September).
However for those of you who are in need of their language fix, a Channel9 member has
kindly posted the language pack

28.08.2007Microsoft releases remaining Vista SP1 language packs
Microsoft Corp. today released the remaining 31 language editions of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) to Windows Update. Today's move followed
the debut of the first five languages -- English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish -- posted by Microsoft to the Windows Update (WU) service on
March 18. Before that, the company had warned customers that it would issue SP1 in two waves, and said the follow-on languages would probably be
issued this month.
When Microsoft unveiled SP1 via WU, users griped about not being able to download the service pack because of balky
device drivers. As an alternative, Microsoft made available a much larger standalone installer that ignores any possible driver issues. The installer
was also updated today to support all 36 languages, and is available in 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
Microsoft had also slated automatic
download and installation of SP1 for "mid-April," possibly earlier, but the mid-point of the month came and went Tuesday without the company pushing
the service pack to every eligible Vista user. Instead, users must call up Windows Update and manually select the still-optional download.
