AMD today announced that it’s new B3 stepping 4x core (Quad) and B2 stepping 3x core (Tri) Phenom has begun shipping. The B3 stepping is a
replacement for the B2 stepping Phenom which had the TLB bug.
What is the TLB Bug you ask? All AMD quad-core processors utilize a shared
L3 cache. In instances where the software uses nested memory pages, this processor will experience a race condition. The erratum is a chip-level
issue involving the TLB logic for the L3 cache that can cause system hangs in specific circumstances. AMD has a

A list of over 8000 (4000 after duplicates were removed) Comcast customer usernames and passwords has been floating around the web for the past two
months, unprotected. The list was made available on Scribd, a file-sharing website where someone by the name of ‘vuthanhan2004' had uploaded
the list, which had been viewed over 345 times, and downloaded over 25 times, according to an article by the NYTimes. "It is possible that the
people on the list divulged their passwords in response to some kind of phishing message, and that Comcast itself is not to blame," said Kevin

Sprint today announced that they will reduce their staffing by nearly 8,000 people. Along with other benefit reductions, that is expected to save the
company approximately $1.2 billion per year. Layoffs will take place over the next two months and will affect all levels of the company, all

The company will also suspend their 401(k) matches, pay increases and tuition reimbursement program through 2009. The suspended tuition program is
expected to heavily impact universities in the Kansas City area, who benefit from the large number of employees who take advantage of that program.

winbeta.org - 26.07.2007AMD and Nvidia fuel advanced processes capacity at TSMC
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)'s advanced processes (90nm to 65nm) capacity is being fueled by both AMD and Nvidia from August as
both graphics chips makers are seeing their supply fall short of demand, according to sources at graphics card makers in Taiwan.
AMD declined to comment while Nvidia said some of its partners are observing strained supply on stronger-than-expected demand.
AMD's ATI Radeon HD 2000 series are in tight supply, the sources said. The company is now reserving shipments to give priority to its major
customers including Sapphire, HIS, etc.
Nvidia's GeForce 8000 series are in severely tight supply currently with shipments
priority being given to key customers including Asustek Computer, Gigabyte Technology, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Zotac, the sources noted...

The Microsoft Security Assessment Tool 3.5 is the revised version of the original Microsoft Security Risk Self-Assessment Tool (MSRSAT), released in
2004 and the Microsoft Security Assessment Tool 2.0 released in 2006. Security issues have evolved since 2004 so additional questions and answers were
needed to ensure you had a comprehensive toolset to become more aware of the evolving security threat landscape that could impact your
organization.
The tool employs a holistic approach to measuring your security posture by covering topics across people, process,
and technology. Findings are coupled with prescriptive guidance and recommended mitigation efforts, including links to more information for additional
industry guidance. These resources may assist you in keeping you aware of specific tools and methods that can help change the security posture of your
IT environment.
winbeta.org - 13.12.2007UK Online banking fraud up 8000%
The UK has seen an 8,000%
increase in fake internet
banking scams in the past two
years, the government's
financial watchdog has
warned.
The
Financial Services Authority
(FSA) stated it was 'very
concerned' about the
sophistication and prevalence
of phishing attacks. Between
January and June of 2005, the
number of reported phishing
attacks in the UK was 312; the
figure for the same period
this year was 5,059.
It's estimated that a total
of £46m will be stolen in the
UK through such scams in 2006
alone. Philip Robinson, the
FSA's head of financial
crime, was quick to point out
that online banking is
generally 'safe', but that
it was important banks were
'transparent and open' about
security breaches to keep
customer confidence high.

winbeta.org - 16.08.2007AMD releases more 3X core Phenom's
Today AMD is set to add 3 new models to its 3X core Phenom line-up, they are the:X3 8450 (2.1 Ghz) $145
As we
previously reported AMD has already released its B3 TLB fixed X4 Phenom and two B2 bios patched X3 Phenom.
X3 8650 (2.3 Ghz)
$165
X3 8750 (2.4 Ghz) $195
Today’s release
builds on that position and introduces the B3 stepping to the X3 core line to bring it equal with their X4 Phenom brothers.
It seems that
AMD has the 3 core market to its self for at least a full year. This should give it a great advantage over Intel’s dual core series as retail
will have something to leverage against Intel again.
And they back that up with impressive pricing as a 3X Phenom & 780G & 2gb ram = Under
$300. It begs the question “If I can’t afford a quad I’ll go with three cores instead of two”

Intel will roll out its first wave of mainstream 45-nanometer "Montevina" Centrino 2 mobile processors by June then follow this up in September with
additional chips including the first quad-core mobile processor.
The first quad-core mobile processor, the Core 2 Extreme QX9300, will
launch in September at a clock speed of 2.53GHz and be priced at just over $1,000. This chip will also boast a massive 12MB cache and have a
Thermal Design Power (TDP or thermal envelope) of 45 watts, rivaling desktop quad-core processors.
The first wave of Centrino 2 models,
due by June, include the T9600 and P8600, running at 2.8GHz and 2.4GHz respectively. A high-end upgrade to the current Core 2 Extreme X9000, the
X9100, is also expected. This is expected to run at 3.06MHz with a 44W thermal envelope. Pricing will range from $530 for the T9600 to $209

neowin.net - 14.03.2008Intel Set to Postpone Introduction of New Quad-Core
Intel Corp. may postpone the actual release of its quad-core microprocessors produced using 45nm process technology due to an undisclosed defect and
the fact that both Intel and its partners have a lot of central processing units (CPUs) with four processing engines made using 65nm tech in stock. It
is unclear whether the delay will affect the world’s largest x86 chipmaker financially.
Initially Intel planned to roll-out its
code-named Wolfdale and Yorkfield microprocessors that are projected to be marketed under Intel Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme brand-names on the 10th
of January, 2008. But the plans have changed and, according to a news-story at HKEPC web-site, Intel will only be able to release dual-core Intel Core
2 Duo 8000-series (Wolfdale) processors in February, while Intel Core 2 Quad 9000-series (Yorkfield) will only see the light of the day in February or
March.
The media report claims that Intel has discovered a “slight processor system bus defect” in its quad-core processors
code-named Yorkfield
