21.6.2007Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC2 via Windows Update (Public Availability Program)
Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 2 is available to the public. Specific registry settings will allow you to be offered SP3 via Windows
Update.
Download the script and run it on a machine currently running Windows XP Service Pack 2. The script sets a registry key
on your system. The registry key is required for Windows Update to recognize your machine as a valid target for Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC2.
Versions of Windows XP Service Pack 3 prior to Release Candidate 2 should be removed before attempting to use the registry key.
Windows Update will not offer Release Candidate 2 to machines with previous versions of the Windows XP Service Pack 3 beta.
It is
recommended that you apply the resulting update package to an activated, genuine copy of Windows XP, in a test environment. As with any pre-release
software, it is also recommended that you back up files and settings on your machine before applying this update package.

30.09.2005Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC2 improves networking
Although news of this release is already a couple of days old, new features in Service Pack 3 RC2 for Windows XP that users can expect from this
package includes: stronger networking protocols with black hole router detection, and Network Access Protection, with Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2)

not to upgrade for a while and let the bugs and kinks be fully worked out. Take my word for it; it’ll definitely be worth the wait.
Service Pack 3 adds several networking and security improvements, and compatibility with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 security credential
providers. It also incorporates features previously available individually as separate updates, such as Micorsoft Windows Imaging Component (WIC),
Microsoft Management Console (MMC) 3.0, and Wi-Fi Protected Access 2. To view a full list of the new features available in this pack, click here. You

22.02.2008Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 News
The high level themes of the System Center Operations Manger 2007 Service Pack 1 are:
- Address critical customer initiated issues including
roll-up of all hotfixes
- Make the product easier to support
- Make the product easier to use
- Make the product
easier to deploy
In the beginning of November there will be a public Release Candidate (RC). This release (RC) is fully upgradable to the final
RTM version of the Service Pack. The reasons the product team is making the RC of the Service Pack generally available are:
- To give customers
evaluating OpsMgr 2007 advance access to the SP to aid in their evaluation and proof of concept deployments
- To give current OpsMgr 2007
customers that may have hotfixes in their environment an opportunity to test the Service Pack and provide feedback on it
- Ultimately to
make sure that the final RTM release of the Service Pack is of the highest possible quality.
The final RTM version of the Service Pack is targeted
for mid-February 2008. This version of the Service Pack will be able to be applied to upgrade the originally released RTM version of Operations
Manager 2007 and it will also upgrade Operations Manager 2007 running the Release Candidate of SP1.

11.08.2009Announcing the RTM of Windows Vista SP1
Mike Nash, Windows Product Management Group: Today we are excited to announce that we have released Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista to manufacturing
(RTM) for our first set of languages (English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese).
Service Pack 1 is a very important
milestone because it addresses many of the key issues that our customers have identified with Windows Vista over the last year both, directly and
through programs like the Customer Experience Improvement Program. With Service Pack 1, we have made great progress in performance, reliability and
compatibility. One of the great things about my job is that I get to play with the latest builds of our products -- I've personally been running
Windows Vista SP1 pretty exclusively for a few months and I've noticed that my systems run faster and more reliably than they did with the "Gold"
release of Windows Vista.

04.02.2008Windows Vista RC2 Comes Friday
According to Paul Thurrot,
Microsoft plans to ship the
final pre-release version of
Windows Vista this Friday.
Unexpectedly, Microsoft will
name the release as Release
Candidate 2 (RC2). Previously,
Microsoft had publicly
asserted that it would not
ship an RC2 milestone release
of Windows Vista. But don't
let the name fool you: RC2 is
really just a standard interim
build of Vista and will not be
given out to millions of users
as was RC1.
The
RC2 build is 5743, and
Microsoft is currently testing
it internally. As with the
previous interim build, 5728,
RC2 will be given out to beta
testers, MSDN and TechNet
subscribers, and a random,
limited selection of Consumer
Preview Program (CPP) members.

26.03.2008Microsoft: 5573 Does Not Imply a Specific XP SP3 Build
Marius Oiaga: Microsoft is not saying much at all about the third and final service pack for Windows XP, and whatever information does manage to get
through the translucent filters implemented by Steven Sinofsky, Senior Vice President, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group,
presents little
relevance. A recent reference related to XP SP3 is Build 5573 from KB951126. Judging by the fact that XP SP 3 Release Candidate 2 Refresh 2 was Build
5508, speculation began circulating of a
new version
number 5573, that could even be the RTM build for the service pack. I contacted Microsoft on the matter, and this is not the case.
"The reference comes from 'A multiprocessor computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows XP stops responding on a black screen after
you resume the computer from hibernation' KB article 951126 available here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951126/. The file versions discussed on the Microsoft Help and Support page, referring to a
hotfix for Windows XP SP3, are accurate," a Microsoft spokesman revealed in an email to Softpedia.

17.04.2008Windows XP SP3 Testing Continues
Windows Vista Service Pack SP1 is done, but Microsoft's other major
Windows service pack, Windows XP SP3, continues to wind its way through the testing process.
On February 7, Microsoft delivered a new
test build of XP SP3 to its inner circle of 15,000 pre-selected testers, company officials said. The newest test build is labeled as XP SP3 Release
Candidate RC2.
Microsoft's statement (sent to me via e-mail on February 8):
"Yesterday, we released Windows XP SP3 RC
2 to private beta testers. This release catches the build up on previously released hotfixes and responds to critical feedback from previous betas. We
are targeting 1H 2008 for the release of XP SP3 RTM, though our timing will always be based on customer feedback as a first priority."
The RC2 build of XP SP3 follows the XP SP3 RC1 Refresh 2 build Microsoft provided to the same 15,000 testers in late January.
I
asked Microsoft this week if there was any truth to a post circulating that claimed the company has
decided to release the final XP SP3 bits in mid-March. A spokeswoman said the
company's official word on XP SP3 availability, as some time in the first half of 2008, is all that will be said on the planned release date.
