UT3 IRC Chat Log
BeyondUnreal has a pretty lengthy chat log with Epic Games answering questions about the upcoming UT3. Of note, this game will include the Linux
client
on the disc.
All in
all, the three hour Q&A (and more than 110 answered questions!) yielded plenty of new info, such as the inclusion of the old UT favorite - CTF-Hydro -
and clarification of many other things. Thanks Epic Games and thanks everyone for for participating... this was your event and it was a rousing
success.

30.09.2007Unreal Tournament III Performance Preview - AMD and NVIDIA Compared
The build up to Unreal Tournament 3, which was previously known as Unreal Tournament 2007, has been a long, twisted story. Shown for the first time
at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) in May of 2004, Unreal Engine 3, which is the gaming engine that powers UT3, was far and away the most
impressive graphical display anyone had seen in real time rendering. The game engine was designed for DirectX 9 GPUs specifically and adds support
for HDR and per-pixel lighting, dynamic shadowing and even AGEIA PhysX technology.
With such a lengthy time to market, it should
come as no surprise that UT3 may not be as jaw-droppingly impressive graphical as we predicted when we saw the tech demos in 2004 and 2005. Based
mainly on DX9, the engine has been updated somewhat to include DX10 in SOME areas, but those are still unknown to us as the demo that is set to be
released this week is only using DX9 code paths. The fact that the game was originally known as Unreal Tournament 2007, but then renamed to UT3
(signifying the Engine version), is another indicator that perhaps Epic had planned on getting it all wrapped well before this November. After all,
do you want a game called "2007" just a month before the year 2008?

12.10.2007How User Modifications Work in UT3 PS3
Whether Unreal Tournament III drops onto PlayStation 3 before the year is out or not, Epic Games remains committed to delivering an undeniably cool
feature to the world of console shooters: mods. Short for modifications, such user generated content has been an active part of the PC world since
before the shareware days -- where do you think Counter-Strike came from? Xbox Live introduced the idea of downloadable content extending the life of
a product months after you've mastered the single-player campaign on the hardest difficulty, but it's always remained dependent on the game's
creators.
Not with UT3. As 1UP learned earlier this week, when the multiplayer shooter ships on the PC, it comes bundled with the
full suite of Unreal Engine 3 tools that have been used to make everything from Gears of War to BioShock to UT3 itself. The only limits are a
player's time, ambition and imagination. These mods take the shape of new game types, weapons, levels or even completely new games if teams are
dedicated enough. And creative folks will have the opportunity to share their user generated content with PS3 gamers, as Unreal Engine 3 literally
ships with an "export to PS3" option within the tools.

20.10.2007Tim Sweeney on UT3 Specs & Peformance

>Beyond Unreal noticed a

owthread.php?t=571019>thread
on the Epic Megaboards that
translates a Tim Sweeney
interview with German
magazine, PC Games Hardware.
Here are a couple juicy
samples:
PCGH:
How do the general hardware
requirements look like?
Epic: Since optimization work
is still ongoing, these
details may change every day.
Generally speaking, the game
runs quite smooth with DX9
hardware released by NVidia
and Ati since 2006. On
high-end cards, including the
DX10 models, UT3 runs
incredibly smooth already.
Additionally, we also support
shader 2.0 graphics hardware,
with only a few technical
limitations.
PCGH: How exactly are you
utilizing the functions of
DirectX 10?
Epic:
Unreal Tournament 3 will ship
with full DX10 support, with
multi-sampling being the
biggest visible benefit of the
new graphics interface.
Additionally, with DX10 under
Vista we have the possibility
to use the video memory more
efficiently, to be able to
display textures with a higher
grade of detail as it would be
possible with the DX9 path of
Vista. ..

30.05.2007When will you get Windows 7 RTM?
When will I get Windows 7 RTM?
Brandon LeBlanc: I recognize this is an important question to have answered. Many of you
have said you want to know exactly when you will be able to get your hands on RTM.
Last Monday, I gave an update on RTM to close
out some myths. In that update, I also gave a broad timeline on when different groups of people “ or śaudiencesť “ would get the final RTM code.
While I have nothing new to add regarding RTM today, I do however have more precise information to give on when you will be able to
get RTM. Again, when you can get RTM depends on who you are.

26.05.2009OEMs Pick Up Windows 7 RTM Code Today in Redmond
Brandon LeBlanc: When we
announced Windows 7 had
RTMd on Wednesday, I posted that OEMs would receive the RTM code within a few days. Well, its been a few days! Earlier today, a handful of OEMs
arrived in Redmond to pick up their RTM code. In the past when a Windows release reaches RTM, we have traditionally given some/selected OEMs the
opportunity to come to Redmond and pick up the RTM code personally. I thought it would be neat to showcase these OEMs that came to campus today as the
RTM code is handed off to them to begin preparing for General Availability (GA) on October 22, 2009!

25.07.2009What's new for audio in Windows 7?
Microsoft took the wraps off the next version of Windows Tuesday at its Professional Developers Conference, and the Web's
abuzz with first impressions and
previews--most of which are positive.
It looks like Microsoft is making the right moves to counter some of the problems with
Vista: application and hardware compatibility are top priorities, and most of the UI tweaks I've seen so far seem helpful rather than arbitrary, as
many of the changes in Vista seemed to be. But the release of Windows 7 is still a year away, and there will no doubt be modifications between now and
then.
But forget the big picture...what's in store for digital audio in the next version of Windows? Here's a quick rundown of
what in known based on the very early pre-beta shown in Los Angeles...

07.08.2009Websites scramble to register forgotten Windows 7 domains
According to the
APC Mag website, the
popular
xpmediacentre.com.au community site, managed to grab windows7.com.au, while
Gavin Howard from IT training agency
Which Training was quick off the mark to
snatch up Windows7.net.au. Howard told APCmag.com that he was “probably looking to sell off” the domain name in the coming year, saying
“I’d love to get $10,000, $15,000 or even $20,000 for it”.
While I doubt that Microsoft is losing any sleep
over the many, many name variations for Windows7 domains on offer around the world, the case of
Vista Windows Pty Ltd springs to mind; the company was "allowed" to continue using the domain because it was registered way
before Microsoft decided on Vista for its latest version of Windows, as far back as 1999.
Microsoft Windows enthusiasts have in the past
started their websites using the trademarked name variants of client (or Server) releases, and eventually, most succumbed to the requests of Microsoft
to stop using them, for
reward or the
threat
of legal action. It remains to be seen if customers become confused enough to believe that the Australian variants of the Windows 7 address,
warrant any sort of legal action on Microsoft's part in the future.
For now, I wouldn't hold out for that 5 figure compensation,
should you find a "forgotten" Windows 7 domain still available for registration somewhere.

15.07.2009MS: How we really designed the look and feel of Windows 7
Brandon LeBlanc: An inaccurate quote has been
