Microsoft's Big Bet: Win Within the Web
Although the latest version of Microsoft Windows is more than six months from shipping, company brass already have christened Vista as the best and biggest Windows release since Windows 95.
The company is making bold predictions, claiming Vista will be preloaded on as many as 200 million new personal computers in the first 24 months that the product is available. Windows 95 shipped on a mere 67 million new PCs during its first two years. These numbers are important. The prospects of nearly every product Microsoft makes ride on maintaining the ubiquity of Windows, which has in excess of 90 percent of the PC operating system market. It's been five years since the current Windows version was released, and Windows XP now is looking rather dated.

Year-to-year growth in the smartphone market in 2005 exceeded 70 per cent and will continue to grow "robustly" for the next several years, with Linux and Microsoft emerging as the dominant platforms, In-Stat predicted today.
However, the analyst firm warned that the risk remains of consumers perceiving these devices as just very expensive feature phones.
In-Stat noted that a major problem affecting the appeal of smartphones is that many users do not download applications that make them more useful after they leave the store.

Following on from the Internet Explorer 8 update that Microsoft released for Windows 7 Beta a day ago, another update has been released targeting

in this update, but it is of no doubt that users will find out soon enough. If you're currently having problems with gaming, or have had problems
with it, in the Windows 7 Beta, install these updates and post in the comments to show which games now work, or still don't.

considering that they didn't hold a special event to announce these products. The timing is suspicious considering Microsoft is due to launch

28.02.2007Intel confident of appeal win in EU anti-trust case
Intel President Paul Otellini has said the company is confident of winning its appeal against the record $1.45 billion fine which was imposed by
EU anti-trust regulators in May this year. Speaking to the BBC following his keynote address at the company's annual developer forum, Mr Otellini
said, "I can't wait to get our side of the story out in the public. I continue to believe and assert they (the European Commission) have got it
wrong. We have appealed and we will win on appeal." AMD first complained about Intel's business practices in 2000, but it wasn't until
high-profile raids were conducted on Intel offices in July 2007 that the company was charged with breaching competition rules.

31.07.2007MP3 Blogs Offer File Sharing Even the RIAA Could Love
Although the term "file sharing" has all sorts of ugly connotations, it's not necessarily a bad thing. In some cases, it's even a win-win-win
situation for the recording industry, music lovers -- and Google.
There are countless MP3 file-sharing sites that don't look
anything like BitTorrent or Lime Wire. They're low-key, homegrown blogs that don't host illicitly copied music, but do provide links to third-party
sites, or storage lockers, such as
Megashare, where pirated music is stored. These
bloggers do it for the love of the music, they say, but it doesn't hurt that they make a little money from advertising along the way.

28.04.2009An Update For Windows Update
An infrastructure update has been planned for Windows Update client. The gradual roll-out of this update will begin in late July. This update will
occur automatically to any system configured to either receive updates “automatically” or “notify” customers that new updates
are available for download.
For enterprise customers who use Windows Server Update Services or Systems Management Server, all updating,
including the WU client, is controlled by the network administrators, who have authority over the download and install experience. Windows Vista
customers who select “never check for updates” in their WU settings will not receive this update until they manually install updates from
Windows Update.
In this particular update, there will not make any changes to the way WU looks or feels, instead the following have been
improved:
- The length of time it takes Windows Update to scan for updates
- The speed in which signature updates will be delivered
Detailed information on this is posted on the
Microsoft Update blog.

05.07.2008Microsoft planning updated UI for Windows Update
Beginning next month Microsoft will start an upgrade to the Windows Update and Microsoft Update services. Microsoft plans to start the
infrastructure update in late August, claiming "it will take a couple of months to complete the rollout." The update is required to "maintain and
improve service quality, reliability, and operations." The update will simply improve the user interface for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008
computers running Windows Update, adding a more visible and detailed description of updates as well as improvements in how users are notified about
service packs. If you currently apply your updates automatically then this update will not modify the look and feel of Automatic Updates.
