Download Windows 7 Build 7201 from JCXP!
Another week and another Windows 7 leak. Last week build 7137 leaked and this week it is 7201's turn. This time around the build tag is
7201.0.090601-1516 meaning this build is only 3 days old. It's been rumored to leak all day, but just minutes ago, the torrents were posted.
Microsoft Netherlands employee Ruud de Jonge twittered "Installing Win 7 build 7201" a few moments ago to confirm the builds
authenticity.
Microsoft revealed yesterday that it will sign off final RTM code in mid to late July with a general availability and release
date of 22nd October for Windows 7.

Windows Home Server x64 Connector Announcement Coming at CES 2008
Good news is on the way for those of you who wish to use Windows Home Server with x64 home computers.
As many of you know, the
Windows Home Server Connector does not currently support x64 home computers, which has caused a lot of frustration and angst amongst early adopters of
the x64 platform. Microsoft have previously announced that they would provide x64 support for machines running Windows Vista (check out our Q&A with
the WHS Team for more) - those of you running Windows XP x64 will have to upgrade, unfortunately.

Users of the popular Trillian
instant messaging client need
to update their software
following the discovery of a
serious security bug. The
multi-protocol chat
application from Cerulean
Studios is subject to a heap
overflow vulnerability because
of programming errors
involving the word-wrapping of
UTF-8 text.
As a
result, hackers might be able
to crash versions of the
application, thereby loading
exploit code onto vulnerable
systems. Viewing a malicious
message containing a specially
malformed UTF-8 string would
be enough to trigger the
attack. "The MSN protocol is
a known attack vector for this
vulnerability. However,
exploitation could potentially
occur using any supported
protocol," an advisory by
iDefense warns.

OpsMgr 2007 SP1 RC Console crashes on x64
Andrzej Lipka: When you try to open the Distributed Application Designer from a console installed on an x64 server you may see the console crashes
with .NET error in the Application Log (something of type badimageformat).
This seems to be a bug in SP1 RC. To work around it
use a console from an x86-32 (32 bit) machine to connect to the x64 server.
On OpsMgr 2007 RTM this issue does not exist.

Upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 RC1
Microsoft on Monday released a near-final "release candidate" version of Internet Explorer 8, the next version of its Web browser.
With
IE 8, Microsoft is hoping to regain some lost ground by adding features such as private browsing, improved security, and a new type of add-ons, called
accelerators. On the security front, Microsoft is adding a cross-site scripting filter, as well as protections against a type of attack known as
clickjacking.
Internet Explorer 8 will work with Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or later) and Windows Vista. A Updated version of IE 8 is
also being built into future builds of Windows 7.
The prerequisite update for Windows Internet Explorer 8 helps improve reliability when
you install and use Windows Internet Explorer 8, it also addresses common application compatibility issues in Windows Vista and Windows Vista X64.
Once the prerequisite update is installed you will need to check for updates to find IE8 RC1, as of now there is no Standalone download link
available.

Cross-browser Firefox/IE flaw worsens
The browser flaw which allows
attackers to hijack a computer
by using Internet Explorer to
launch Firefox is affecting
other applications as well.
Security researchers Nate
McFeters, Billy Rios and
Raghav Dube have disclosed
information and working
exploit code for a similar
vulnerability in Trillian.
Like the Firefox attack, the
Trillian exploit uses a
Uniform Resource Identifier
(URI) function as the point of
attack.
The URI
allows the browser to launch a
third-party application on the
user's system in much the
same way that a URL is used to
access a web page. When the
user visits a
specially-crafted page, the
application is launched and
attack code is run to crash
the application and execute
code. The attack could be used
to remotely install malware on
a user's system.
