Chris Lewis, Xbox's European head, told a German weekly on Sunday that there was a good chance the console would sell out across Europe as well.

If you don’t like it, post your own.

Google Video blasted over piracy claims

A US-based copyright watchdog has sunk its teeth into Google by sending a report alleging copyright violations on Google Video to members of Congress.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) researched the extent of copyrighted material being hosted on Google Video earlier this summer and released a Top 50 list of apparently copyrighted movies.

But, in the latest spot-check of Google Video conducted from 10 to 18 September, the NLPC claims to have discovered 300 additional instances of apparently copyrighted films, including over 60 movies released this year.

Several popular summer releases including Shrek the Third, Oceans Thirteen, The Bourne Ultimatum and Knocked Up were easily found on the video sharing site.

The 300 apparently pirated films, along with many other copyrighted works, received more than 22 million views in the past year on Google Video, according to the NLPC...

MS drifts towards over-the-top Java services with Musiwave buy

All the coverage thus far about Microsoft splashing out $46m for Musiwave, has been about how the mobile music service supplier has had a dramatic fall from grace, and has cost parent OpenWave some $80m.

But perhaps the focus should be on Microsoft buying a company that exclusively uses Java applications, mostly on Symbian handsets, selling content in non-Microsoft formats.

All of these are an increasing trend within Microsoft and more and more evidence that it has finally forgotten about the operating system wars on the handset and moved its platform targets up to the universal entertainment client “ in other words downloadable, over the top services.

Intel, Micron Select Singapore for NAND Flash Fab

Intel Corp. and Micron Technology Inc. have agreed to site their fourth wafer fab for the production of NAND flash memories in Singapore. Since the formation of the Intel-Micron joint venture IM Flash Technologies LLC in January 2006, the companies have brought online a 300-mm NAND fabrication facility in Manassas, Virginia, and a Lehi, Utah, 300-mm wafer fab is on track to be in production early in 2007. The venture also currently produces NAND through existing capacity at Microns Boise, Idaho, fabrication facilities.

Intel and Micron said Monday (Nov. 6) that they intend to form a joint venture in Singapore to build and manage a NAND flash wafer fab that will come online in the second half of 2008. The fab would initially use a 50-nm process technology on 300-mm wafers. The Singapore JVs facility is expected to break ground in the first half of 2007. Micron already has a joint venture in Singapore - with Hewlett Packard, Canon and the Singapore Economic Development Board - for the production of DRAMs.

"We are quite pleased with the progress IM Flash Technologies has made in a very short period of time positioning us for future growth in the NAND marketplace, said Brian Harrison, general manager of Intel's flash memory group, in a statement. "By executing to our strategy of ramping one 300-mm fab per year, we fully expect to become one of the top manufacturers of NAND flash memory."

Sun's ODF plugin for MS Office now available

The Sun ODF Plug-in is an extension to Microsoft Office that allows it to read and write ISO standard ODF files. It supports Office 2000, XP, and 2003, and works on Windows XP and Vista. It adds to MS Office the ability to read and write ODF text, spreadsheet, and presentation files (.odt, .ods, and .odp) - the ISO standard editions of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

Furthermore, ODF text files (.odt) can be made the default format for MS-Word thanks to this plug-in (and double-clicking on an ODF text file on the desktop would automatically open it in MS-Word).

Addressing the accessibility concerns of existing MS-Office users was one of the key reasons behind Sun's development of the ODF plug-in, and I have been one of several folks involved in testing the accessibility of this plug-in (along with several beta testers whose employees with disabilities were likewise doing accessibility testing).
