Pop-Up Stopper Free v3.1.1012
Very few of us have a warm place in our hearts for browser windows that pop up in front of the screen without permission. The free Pop-Up Stopper prevents them (and pop-under windows) from displaying. You can have sounds notify you when a pop-up has been blocked.

The First Anniversary of the Windows Vista Grace Timer 2009 Crack
Windows Vista is a tad under a month away from its first anniversary, taking into consideration the January 30th, 2007 consumer launch of the operating system. In November 2006, Vista was released to manufacturing and, then, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer, gave businesses the green light to Vista.

08.11.2007Another Vista Activation Crack Appears
Buzz about a Windows Vista
zero-day vulnerability is
troubling enough (although
probably overblown). Now,
there appears to be a second
product activation hack, this
one designed to fool the
activation timer into not
counting down. The activation
hack is quite different from
the first one, which involved
setting up a Key Management
Service server. Microsoft also
released an update blocking
hybrid testing/final Vista
"Monster" code that could
bypass product activation.
"Recently it has been
reported that activation of
Microsoft's Windows Vista
operating system has been
compromised," a Microsoft
spokesperson said in a
statement in response to a
Microsoft Watch inquiry.
"Microsoft is investigating
this reported activation
breach; however, there is no
concrete evidence that this
breach has been automated to
the point that it is widely
deployable." The not "widely
deployable" statement, while
likely true, isn't denial of
an actual activation breach.
I've read
instructions, which I won't
link to, and comments from
people successfully trying the
so-called Time Stopper hack; I
haven't tested it and
wouldn't because of possible
security breach when applying
a downloaded crack as part of
the process. As the Microsoft
spokesperson acknowledged,
there are reports about the
crack, which requires setting
a computer's BIOS clock to
2099. The hack does work on
32-bit Windows Vista
installations but not
necessarily 64-bit versions.
The process requires some
other Windows changes and
eventual clock reset from
within Vista leading to a
perpetual state of 30 days to
activation.

28.12.2006Amazon announces Kindle DX
As Neowin had previously reported, Amazon has unveiled its larger screened Kindle as predicted. The device boasts a 9.7 inch screen that rotates when
the device is turned, a bump in storage space to 3.3GB, and a PDF reader but the real show stopper is the price at $489.00 The device will be
subsidized by major newspaper outlets on contract although there is one restriction. You can only get the device subsidized if you live in a region
where you can't get home delivery which means most will have to pay full retail. The Kindle DX will ship this summer and is up for pre-order
now at Amazon.

06.05.2009Confirmed: Windows 7 set to RTM on July 13th
Earlier today the guys over at GeekSmack.net "confirmed" that Windows 7 was set to RTM(Release to market) on July 13, which also coincides with
Wzor's unconfirmed rumor last month. A few minutes ago sources close to the company, who wish to remain anonymous, have confirmed to Neowin that
Windows 7 is indeed set to RTM on July 13. After a year of furious beta testing and continuous leaks every other week, Microsoft is finally ready to
give Windows 7 the green light to hit the market. Currently the Windows 7 team is working on polishing off the RTM build so that no show-stopper bugs
are present in Windows 7.

03.07.2009Build a Mac Pro equivalent workstation for 1/3 the cost
George Ou: Conventional wisdom tells us that a digital content creation and CAD professional had to fork out $6000 to $10,000 dollars for a high-end
8-core dual-processor workstation, but this is Real World IT where I say screw conventional wisdom. Ive put on my mad scientist hat again and brewed
something up for $2311 with equal or better performance than a $6803 Mac Pro (as configured in Apple screen cap to the left). Now granted you cant
run Mac OS X so that might be a show stopper for a Mac user, but there are plenty of Windows users who want something that will run just as fast. If
thats you, then keep reading!

03.01.2008Windows 7 RTM contains a rather nasty chkdsk bug
Windows 7 RTM, which will be distributed to MSDN/TechNet and technical beta testers tomorrow, contains a nasty memory leak when the chkdsk command is
initiated. The bug occurs when the CHKDSK /R command is initiated on a non-system volume. Memory usage of the chkdsk.exe process soars until the
system is using over 90% physical memory. In some cases this will cause the system to become unresponsive and unstable. Some are calling the bug a
"show stopper", whilst others (Randall Kennedy) claim it could derail the Windows 7 launch. It's worth noting that Kennedy claimed in November
2008 that Microsoft had delayed the Windows 7 beta to early 2009, even though company officials always stated this was the case.

05.08.2009Microsoft to RTM Windows 7 this week? Build 7260 leaks
Earlier today Neowin reported that Windows 7 build 7232 had leaked. What a difference a few more hours makes, now 7260 has leaked and the Russian site
Wzor claims that Microsoft will build the RTM (release to manufacturing) build between June 15-19. If Wzor is correct, and that's a big if and
rumour, then we may see the final Windows 7 RTM build ready this weekend. Internal sources indicate that 7260 is still the latest build under the
win7_rtm branch. Build 7260 carries the tag 7260.win7_rtm.090612-2110 and is an RTM escrow build meaning vigorous testing will commence to ensure this
is the final code unless there are show stopper bugs.

16.06.2009Microsoft release 2 updates for IE8 on Windows 7 RC
Microsoft has released two new updates for Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 RC, via Windows Update. The first update applies only to Windows 7 RC, and
will be fixed in the Windows 7 RTM. The first issue resolved is one which, according to the Microsoft Support site, caused the browser to hang, and
show this error message: "A webpage is not responding on the following website: (Website name)". The update for this issue requires the browser to
restart before it can be applied. The issue is apparently caused by a timer used to detect when web pages have stopped responding, which is normally
fine.

sent to SP2 testers regarding this release. The RC-Escrow build is available for download from this Thursday as a standalone installer or via Windows
Update or as a slipstreamed download. Microsoft claims that the service pack includes 656 individual hotfixes. The Escrow Build is a build where

concentrate only on the regressions and confirmation of fixes when asking for feedback which includes the RC Escrow install survey.

29.01.2009New Android commercial attacks iPhone
Verizon released a new commercial which takes shots at the missing features for the iPhone. The website droiddoes.com has a countdown timer to the
release of the new Android 2.0 mobile phone. The ad attacks a variety of things Apple doesn't do or won't do on the iPhone. The
advertisement attacks Apple's oversights on the iPhone like a real keyboard, running simultaneous applications, being customizable, allowing
widgets, open source development and interchangeable batteries. The advertisement also takes a stab at the iPhone's camera, saying the Android
based phone will have a 5MP camera and will be able to take pictures in the dark. The Android 2.0 phone will release this November on Verizon.

20.10.2009SP1 Unsuccessful in Preventing Vista Hacks
It seems that Microsoft has been unsuccessful with SP1 in preventing hackers from
turning a pirated, non-genuine copy of Vista into genuine copies that pass activation. The article initially looked at two of
the most popular hacks (OEM BIOS hack and the grace timer hack) but after a little digging ZDNet were able to transform a non-genuine install into a
genuine one. 'After a few minutes of searching the darker corners of the Internet and a few seconds in the Command Prompt I was able to fool Windows
into thinking that it was genuine.'

11.02.2008Windows 7 will give your laptop longer battery life
It's no surprise that Windows 7 is getting good reviews and praise as the operating system is proving itself to be a rock solid platform. It
seems as the news is only getting better as Microsoft and Intel showed off how Windows 7 when paired up with Intel's new processor line will
increase battery life for laptops, according to PCMag.com. The two companies worked together to help develop technologies that will allow for
sustained performance while improving battery life in the next generation of Intel processors. "The dramatic leap in battery life appears tied to
a technology known as Windows 7 timer coalescing, a technical term for minimizing the time in which the processor enters a high-performance,
full-power state.

02.09.2009Microsoft slams the door on Vista pirates
Adrian Kingsley-Hughes: With the launch of SP1 Microsoft promised to put an end to two popular hacks used by pirates to allow a non-genuine install of
Windows Vista to function in the same way as a genuine install. Testing that Ive carried out in the lab today suggests that Microsoft has been true to
its word.
The two most common hacks used were the OEM BIOS hack and the grace timer hack (of which there were two flavors which
were widespread).
Testing both these methods of circumventing Windows activation and Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) has shown me
that SP1 effectively ignores both these hacks. Systems that previously were shown to be genuine prior to the installation of SP1 then require
activation - and if the system isnt activated it is marked at non-genuine and enters the nag state.

11.02.2008Microsoft adds new parental controls to Xbox 360
Microsoft Corp said on Wednesday it is adding a feature to its Xbox 360 that limits the amount of time children can play video games.
The move comes as the software giant tries to make the Xbox 360 more attractive to mainstream consumers ahead of the holiday buying season that is
the biggest time of year for the video game industry.
"As the customer base broadens, the demand for these kinds of capabilities
does increase," said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division.
The new timer can be set to
limit playing time on a daily or weekly basis, and turns off the console when the time limit is reached. A similar feature is found in Microsoft's
Windows Vista computer operating system.

07.11.2007Apple's Leopard rejects latest version of Java
Apple faces yet more flack from the Mac faithful over the discovery that the operating system won't run the latest version of Java. It's one of
several beefs relating to the OS X upgrade that is sparking vitriol among the normally docile crowd.
Leopard may have 300 new
features, but it is unable to run Java 1.6, even though that same version is available for both Windows and Linux. That has taken some Mac users by
surprise, including some on
this user forum on
Apple's website. Several users there say 1.6 is so central to the development work they do on a daily basis that they will be forced to use an OS
other than Leopard if it remains incompatible.
"This is a show stopper for me, and I will have to revert to 10.4, since my job
as a software engineer for Sun requires Java 6--this will likely prevent a lot of people from upgrading, and there's a well represented Mac userbase
at Sun," a user going by the name buckmelter wrote. 10.4 is a reference to Tiger, the OS X predecessor to Leopard.

29.10.2007In Tokyo, arcade games use real cars
Picture this. You are strapped down in a full-scale Toyota Trueno, Subaru Impreza WRX or Mazda RX7, sweaty palms on steering wheel. Your eyes fixated
on what's beyond the windscreen, desperately trying to "drift" your way through the narrow Japanese countryside roads. If all these sound all too
familiar to you, yes, we are referring to the Japanese cult anime Initial D . Now Sega is redefining the arcade gaming experience with its
Initial D Arcade Stage 4 Limited system.
This life-sized motion simulator has all three of the above-mentioned vehicles
each lined up in front of a giant projection screen and installed with a moving platform. The level of detail is truly out of this world. Imagine real
vehicle chassis, authentic racing wheels and even bucket seats! It's a pity some of the in-car instruments are non- functional, though we doubt it
will be a major show-stopper for diehard manga fans.

02.11.2007Microsoft Silently Rolls Out Anti-Hack Update For Vista
The release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 not only heralded a long-awaited update of the operating system, it also meant the end of two common
Windows Vista anti-activation exploits - the Grace Timer exploit and the Paradox OEM BIOS activation crack. But those who think they can escape by not
updating to Service Pack 1 would be sadly mistaken.
That's because Microsoft has surreptitiously released an anti-hack detection update
via Windows Update. Those who chose to have Windows Vista install updates automatically would have this update installed and running by now. If you
chose to manually select updates to be installed, you should find this update listed.

12.05.2008Microsoft Responds to Save XP Petition
Microsoft's decision to discontinue OEM and packaged sales of Windows XP at the end of June - leaving businesses and consumers with the
less-than-celebrated Vista as their only choice of Windows operating system on new PCs - has drawn considerable criticism and led to an outpouring of
support for the continuation of XP sales.
Over 75,000 people have signed
Infoworld's 'Save XP' petition; a Web site complete with an XP countdown timer, video tributes, and a series of articles
detailing why a large number of businesses, organizations and consumers are unhappy with Microsoft's decision to force them into adopting the
yet-to-be widely accepted Vista operating system.
<...> In response to Infoworld's petition and other pro-XP outpourings of
support, a Microsoft spokesperson in the US told Computerworld: "We're aware of it, but are listening first and foremost to feedback we hear from
partners and customers about what makes sense based on their needs. That's what informed our decision to extend the availability of XP initially, and
what will continue to guide us."
