Video Services general manager Rob Bennett sent out an e-mail this afternoon to customers, advising them to make any and all authorizations or
deauthorizations before August 31. " As of August 31, 2008, we will no longer be able to support the retrieval of license keys for the songs you
purchased from MSN Music or the authorization of additional computers, " reads the e-mail seen by Ars. " You will need to obtain a license key
for each of your songs downloaded from MSN Music on any new computer, and you must do so before August 31, 2008. If you attempt to transfer your songs
to additional computers after August 31, 2008, those songs will not successfully play. "

Microsoft has released two new updates for Internet Explorer 8 on Windows 7 RC, via Windows Update. The first update applies only to Windows 7 RC, and
will be fixed in the Windows 7 RTM. The first issue resolved is one which, according to the Microsoft Support site, caused the browser to hang, and
show this error message: "A webpage is not responding on the following website: (Website name)". The update for this issue requires the browser to
restart before it can be applied. The issue is apparently caused by a timer used to detect when web pages have stopped responding, which is normally
fine.

Adrian Kingsley-Hughes: With the launch of SP1 Microsoft promised to put an end to two popular hacks used by pirates to allow a non-genuine install of
Windows Vista to function in the same way as a genuine install. Testing that Ive carried out in the lab today suggests that Microsoft has been true to
its word.
The two most common hacks used were the OEM BIOS hack and the grace timer hack (of which there were two flavors which
were widespread).
Testing both these methods of circumventing Windows activation and Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) has shown me
that SP1 effectively ignores both these hacks. Systems that previously were shown to be genuine prior to the installation of SP1 then require
activation - and if the system isnt activated it is marked at non-genuine and enters the nag state.

Microsoft Corp said on Wednesday it is adding a feature to its Xbox 360 that limits the amount of time children can play video games.
The move comes as the software giant tries to make the Xbox 360 more attractive to mainstream consumers ahead of the holiday buying season that is
the biggest time of year for the video game industry.
"As the customer base broadens, the demand for these kinds of capabilities
does increase," said Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division.
The new timer can be set to
limit playing time on a daily or weekly basis, and turns off the console when the time limit is reached. A similar feature is found in Microsoft's
Windows Vista computer operating system.
