There have been reports of CS3 being unstable on Snow Leopard surfacing around the web - including CS3 crashing when fonts are changed. Photoshop CS2, however, is listed as not compatible with Snow Leopard. "While older Adobe and Macromedia applications may install and run on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6), they were designed, tested and released to the public several years before this new operating system became available," the document states. "You may therefore experience a variety of installation, stability, and reliability issues for which there is no resolution.

Snow Leopard Previewed and Pictured

TestMac.net has published a quick look at Mac OS X Snow Leopard. "The biggest changes are under the hood. Snow Leopard is fast. Very fast. Like, surprisingly fast. From boot times to general application usage, Snow Leopard was noticeably quicker then Leopard when using the same system. Apple and 3rd party applications alike, they all launched faster and performed smoother. I'm sure this can be attributed to the new 64-bit architecture, but its amazing how much of a difference it really is." Screenshots included.

Snow Leopard: New Marble Interface?

With every release of OS X, like most operating systems, interface changes are constantly being made. Snow Leopard, Apple's upcoming operating system, is yet to see any major UI changes in the currently available builds. However, a source has revealed a new theme that may be underway.

Recently leaked information states that Snow Leopard will use the Marble theme instead of Aqua. While not much is known about the new theme, Marble is expected to consist of a flattened Aqua look and pick up some elements from iTunes and iPhoto, unifying the style across the operating system.

Snow Leopard is expected to be released in this quarter.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard: Great news for Windows 7

Snow Leopard offers an even more streamlined Mac experience than Leopard and noticeably faster interface responsiveness. The application performance, however, is slightly slower than it is with Leopard, at least on the MacBook Pro we used as our test machine. As the OS is now a pure 64-bit operating system, expect the application performance to improve over Leopard as you add RAM or use it with a high-end desktop.

Mac users can read more about Snow Leopard in my colleague Jason Parker's full review, which is mixed. On the other hand, for Windows users, especially Windows 7, the release of Snow Leopard is straight-on great news...

Snow Leopard nearing completion

A report from Apple Insider this morning announced that Apple's next version of the OS X operating system, named 'Snow Leopard' 10.6 is nearing completion. This news comes as Apple is said to have notified its beta testers that they have simplified the API's and a new architecture that makes it easier for developers to take advantage of Mac's with multiple processing cores. This is good news for developers because they can now turn their minds to testing their Snow Leopard version of their applications, secure in the knowledge that any more major changes will not force them to make drastic alterations to their code.

Snow Leopard's Weight Loss Tips for a Tight Leopard Install

Apple has already announced the successor to Leopard, called Snow Leopard, during the WWDC not too long ago. One of the measures Apple has taken is the size reduction of application bundles, which has resulted in dramatic weight loss for a lot of applications. AppleInsider has found out what exactly Apple has been doing to lose that much weight.

Snow Leopard to bring a new 'marble' appearance?

Apple has always said that the new version of OS X dubbed "Snow Leopard" would be about performance gains and not new visuals. With that in mind it has been circulating the web in resounding fashion that Apple will release a new theme for OS X when the product is launched. A mockup (below) gives a possible rendering of what the new theme may look like. There is not much else to go on but when a story gets this big it generally means there is some credibility behind the source. Keep your eyes peeled as it is expected that this theme will be unveiled anytime between now and the upcoming WWDC.

As reported by Techworld, Snow Leopard, Apple's highly anticipated new operating system, lacks basic security features that are found in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 says Charlie Miller, a noted security researcher. Charlie Miller of Baltimore-based Independent Security Evaluators who many people may remember from when he successfully hacked a fully patched Macbook in seconds, was disappointed upon hearing that Apple did little to improve ASLR from Leopard to Snow Leopard. "Apple didn't change anything.
