Office 12 to Feature 'Super Tooltips'
Tooltips, those little yellow popup boxes that provide information on a button or menu option, have become an indispensable part of the modern user interface. Now, Microsoft is looking to extend their usefulness by introducing what it calls "Super Tooltips" in the upcoming release of Office 12.
The next-generation Office suite from Microsoft is already slated to bring a major UI makeover. Standard toolbars have been replaced with task-oriented "Ribbons" that include features pertinent to the current job. But such a change will require a learning curve, which is where the new larger tooltips come in.

promoting the sweepstakes which will award one lucky winner at random (I wish the odds were a tad better than that) a trip for two to Super Bowl XLIII
in Tampa Bay in 2009, will begin appearing on January 14, both online and in print. Canon, the longest-tenured sponsor of the NFL, has lined the
football sidelines for years with both high-definition TV camera lenses and the white lenses used by professional photographers covering the game.

04.02.2009The Next 25 Years in Tech
The future ain't what it used to be. In the pre-PC era, futurists predicted huge changes in transportation. By 2008 we would be flitting about in
personal jetpacks and taking vacations on the moon. But the communications revolution spurred by personal computers and the Internet wasn't on
anyone's radar.
Now the technology landscape is on the verge of changes that will transport us to places few people have
imagined. We know that computers will be vastly more powerful, mobile, and connected. The question for the next 25 years is whether we'll be able to
tell where technology ends and the rest of our life begins.

24.09.2008Experimental Super 3G network could reach 300Mbps
Japan-based NTT DoCoMo
announced today that it plans
to begin testing on an
experimental "Super 3G"
system for extra-high-speed
data on mobile devices.
The country's largest
mobile carrier said that it
hopes to achieve an impressive
300Mbps down in its tests over
the wireless network. The
company has already begun
accepting proposals from
suppliers and hopes to
implement the Super 3G system
in Japan by 2009.
The
company said that it planned
to start experimenting with
Super 3G in an indoor setting
with only one transmitting
antenna and one receiving
antenna. From there, NTT
DoCoMo plans to expand the
experiment by using four
Multiple-Input Multiple-Output
(MIMO) antennas on both the
transmitting and receiving
side. The ultimate goal will
be not only to achieve 300Mbps
down but also to look at how
well handovers will be handled
between towers.

12.01.2007Camera tech behind the Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is one of the largest sporting events on earth. It attracts hundreds of millions of viewers each year and even more dollars will be
spent on advertising. Have you ever wondered what kind of technology is behind the curtains to make it all possible? This year NBC is leaving no
inch of the field uncovered. First off there will be "400 on-site production and engineering personnel" and they have put down over 50 miles of
fiber optic cable. There will be 35 high end Sony cameras using Cannon lenses to make sure every inch of game play is covered. Cameras will be
placed on everything from goal posts to outside the locker-rooms.

If you've been watching the news this week, you might have caught NFL security VP Milton Ahlerich saying that Raymond James Stadium in Tampa will be

While most of you are still reeling from excitement from Apple's releases at their WWDC today, there are some people who may find it a little more
restrictive to get the most out of their computers in the future. In a seemingly superlative effort to construct: "a green, healthy, and harmonious
Internet environment, and preventing harmful information on the Internet from influencing and poisoning young people." The Chinese government have
plans to impose further restrictions on the way its people use their computers by passing legislation which will require that all personal computers
sold within the country, as of July 1, be shipped with software blocking access to certain websites.

09.06.2009Researchers Craft HDTV's Successor
High-definition TV may
still be far from the norm in
many countries, but that
isn't stopping engineers at
Japan's public broadcaster
from pushing ahead with
development of Super
Hi-Vision, a system they hope
will eventually replace HDTV.
Last week engineers at NHK's
(Nippon Hoso Kyokai) Science
and Technical Research
Laboratories showed off their
most recent work on the
technology.
A Super Hi-Vision (SHV)
picture is made up of 4,320
horizontal picture lines and
7,680 vertical lines. That's
four times the horizontal and
vertical resolution of current
HDTV or, put another way, a
single Super Hi-Vision image
is equivalent to 16 tiled HDTV
screens.
In the year
since it was last
demonstrated, the company has
developed an image sensor for
use in TV cameras that can
shoot an entire SHV screen...
