Another security hole found in IE

Secunia published an advisory on Tuesday stating that an error could be exploited to fake the address bar in a browser window. This tactic could be used in phishing scams that attempt to trick people into believing they are on a legitimate site, when in fact they are viewing a fraudulent Web page. Phishing is a prevalent type of online scam that seeks to pilfer personal information from unsuspecting Internet users. The scams typically combine spam e-mail with fraudulent Web sites that appear to come from a trusted source, such as a credit card company or a bank.

Windows Vista's new security features

Microsoft's new operating system won't be out until late 2006, but here's a look at some of the new security features expected.

It seems that every time I sit down with Microsoft to discuss Windows Vista, something has been changed or added, which is good. In some cases, something has been removed, which is bad. One and a half years from launch, I understand that beta code changes frequently. Here's my standard disclaimer: the following article is based on the last build from Microsoft, Windows Vista build 5219, released September 2005.

Review: Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 7000

In the market for a new wireless keyboard and mouse, looking to upgrade from my Microsoft Digital Pro Keyboard, I took a lot at Microsoft's Wireless Laser Desktop 7000. Keyboard and mouse response peripherals are important to all communication between the user and their computer, hoping that Microsoft got it right after mixed reviews on previous keyboard / mouse combos. The Keyboard: The keyboard has the Comfort Curve design keyboard that has a slight bend in the keys to make the feel of typing more comfortable to the user. The keyboard has a small 6 degree bend in the design to help improve typing from the average angle of a users shoulder to keyboard.

iTech Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard Review

For years now I've been using the same keyboard at home, a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard. It's not a bad board, thought it has seen better days. While looking around for a replacement I came across what appears to be the Keyboard of the Future! Not only is it small, compact and connects via Bluetooth, but it has no physical keys! This "keyboard" is actually a laser projection that will display a "virtual" keyboard on any flat surface.

The "geek" part of me instantly decided this would be the best keyboard ever, but the logical part of me had some hesitations. How well would it work? Would it be able to handle a very fast typing speed with accuracy? Would it be comfortable to use? Well, thanks to our good friends at ThinkGeek, I was able to get a hold of one of these devices to try out and give you all a taste of what it's like to live in the future of computing.

Review: Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000

Looking for a new keyboard and mouse combo? Got a bit of spare cash? Look no further, this is the "Ultimate" keyboard and mouse combo set that Microsoft has ever created. The Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 combines a mouse, keyboard and a new charging "dock". The dock allows you to charge both the mouse and keyboard...wirelessly. You simply slip the keyboard under the charging port and it's charging, stick the mouse on top and that's charging too. It was this sole reason I was interested in this combo combined with the fact it has a backlit keyboard. Lets take a look at all its features.

FCC filings for new Apple mouse and keyboard revealed

The past month or so has seen a fair few rumors flying about regarding new Apple computers (iMacs, MacBooks and even Mac minis), some of which supposed to be packing redesigned peripherals. Engadget has just earlier revealed the FCC filings for said input devices, confirming the existence of both the mouse and keyboard. The revamped mouse and keyboard are touting the model numbers of A1296 and A1314 respectively, compared to the old A1197 and A1255; unfortunately, that's as juicy as details get, as Jobs and the gang will want to make their usual launch event as surprising as possible.

Dude, someone hacked my keyboard

Swiss researchers have demonstrated keystrokes can be recorded wirelessly from wired keyboards by analysing the electromagnetic signals produced by every key press.

Martin Vuagnoux and Sylvain Pasini, researchers from the Lausanne Security and Cryptography Laboratory, published a report detailing their findings. The pair tested 11 common keyboards manufactured from 2001-2008 which were all vulnerable to at least one of their 4 attacks.

The researchers used a radio antenna to "fully or partially recover keystrokes" by spotting the electromagnetic radiation emitted when keys were pressed.

2 videos have been posted by the researchers that demonstrate the technique involved.

The pair concluded that wired computer keyboards sold in stores "are not safe to transmit sensitive information".

TechSpot: OCZ Sabre OLED Gaming Keyboard review

Art Lebedev Studio created a whirlwind of excitement when their Optimus Maximus keyboard concept surfaced in 2005. The peripheral touted a full set of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) buttons that were 100% user-customizable and downright amazing-looking. I had the opportunity to see it in person at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show as well as get some hands-on time with its little brother, the Mini Three. Possibly Steep Learning Curve for iPhone Texting

According to Chicago-based usability consultancy User Centric, users new to Apple's much vaunted iPhone, but who have previous texting experience, may have difficulty adjusting to the phone's texting style, with its touchscreen described as "potentially problematic" for sending text messages. User Centric tested the iPhone's SMS features with frequent texters, individuals who send at least 15 messages per week, to see how rapidly they could adapt to the iPhone's touch keyboard; all texters either owned a phone with a full Qwerty keyboard or a numeric keyboard and had no previous experience with the iPhone. As part of the test, each participant typed six fixed-length text messages on their own phone and six on an iPhone; the results revealed that Qwerty-keyboard users took almost twice as long to compose messages on Apple's offering as compared to their own phone, with the difference in time persisting for as long as 30 minutes. " For Qwerty users, texting was fast and accurate. But when they switched to the iPhone, they were frustrated with the touch sensitive keyboard, " said Jen Allen, a usability specialist at User Centric.
