Cray Computer Founder Joins Microsoft
Microsoft confirmed on Friday that Burton Smith, formerly the chief scientist for Cray, would be joining the company as a technical fellow. Smith will work to expand Microsoft's efforts in parallel and high-performance computing, and would report to chief technical officier Craig Mundie.
Smith had worked with Cray since its inception as Tera Computer Co. in 1988. He has also published several works on issues regarding parallel computing. "As microprocessor technology continues to evolve over the next decade or so, we're going to see the capabilities of a supercomputer cluster on the desktop which will require a different software architecture," Mundie said. "Burton will be investigating how to develop software to benefit from the opportunities which multi-core multiprocessors will present."

2.12.2007Sakshat, the $20 laptop from India
Presumably said with a straight face, India unveiled its Sakshat $20 laptop yesterday. What's hard to come by is how the actual laptop will
be built as are no known pictures of the laptop published. The Sakshat laptop, which translates to "before your eyes", will boast 2GB of storage,
WiFi, Ethernet and use only 2 watts of power. That is all that is known for now about the cheap laptop but it has many wondering if it is anything
more than vaporware. The idea of a $20 laptop is going to be quite the task and is slated for a release this summer.

04.02.2009The new Whitehouse.gov
Shortly prior to Obama's inauguration the official White House website was updated with a new layout and new features. Already seen has been the
new administration implement Change.gov which was widely met with satisfaction amongst users. With its launch it brought a new type of
interconnectedness between government and citizen. The new Whitehouse.gov resembles Change.gov in that it holds a wealth of various information and
displays it in an easily accessible format. It takes the place of Change.gov and will be the new platform in which the Obama administration hopes to
provide further involvement of citizens and government. The site contains information on the plans for several initiatives and topic, as well as
information regarding American politics in general.

24.09.2007Obama's new 'Change.gov'
It would seem that President-Elect Barack Obama has already started to usher in change. Today marks the launch of a new website which seems to have
the goal of merging the gap between citizen and government.
The website contains a newsroom, blog, and even a section entitled
'agenda', under which lists several sections to browse through the various issues of importance. Selecting one will show what the government
of Obama/Biden intend to do and how they intend to do it. There is also a section of the website called the 'American Moment' where visitors
may post their concerns, opinions, and hopes for the future.
Change.gov offers a unique way of having citizens become involved in the
political system of their country, it is still fairly new and thus we'll have to wait to measure its success.

17.02.2006Hacker Breach Suspends California Gov Domain
If you had trouble accessing government websites in California a few days ago, don't worry, you weren't hallucinating: the federal government
apparently briefly suspended the entire "ca.gov" domain after a hacker managed to insert redirects to porn sites onto several government subdomains
using a DNS hack. The site which triggered the red flag was the
Transportation Authority of
Marin, California, belonging to a small ten person agency in charge of helping people move in and about Marin County. However, this tiny agency
managed to cause big trouble for the entire state, as it turns out.

05.10.2007Obama launches Recovery.gov
Obama has used technology like no other president in the past. From his YouTube addresses to websites, he is always embracing technology rather than
resisting it. With the signing of the "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" he has also launched a new website, Recovery.gov. As promised
in his campaign, he vowed for transparency and this website is the fruit of his labor. The website promises to help the American taxpayer track
where his or her money is being spent, how it is being spent, and when it will be spent. No other president has used the internet in a similar manner
to promote ideas and responsibility.
