8.1.2007Configuring Windows Server 2008 as a Remote Access SSL VPN Server (Part 1)
Remote Access is one of todays śbig thingsť. As an increasing number of people need access to information stored on work and home computers, the
ability to access that information from anywhere is critical. Gone are the days when you could say śIll get that information to you when I get to my
computerť. You need that information now if you want to be competitive in todays business environment.
In the stone age of
computing, the way to remotely access information on your computer was to use a dial-up connection. RAS dial-up connections worked over regular POTS
(Plain Old Telephone Service) lines and had speeds that ranged up to around 56kbps. Speed was a major problem with dial-up RAS connections, but an
even bigger problem was the cost of the connections when a long distance number was required for access.

06.11.2008Itanium to gain Red Hat VM support and more
The imminent next version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux is to come with Xen virtualisation optimised for Itanium 2, Intel said today as part of a robust

that is just celebrating its second birthday.
śSome people might be hesitant to have a web server alongside an ERP or HR system
on a virtualised server because they dont want the corporate crown jewels on the same system in case of a failure or malware traversing from one VM to
another,ť Demshki said. śBut with Itaniums RAS capabilities and electronically-isolated partitioning, the Red Hat Xen support is going to be a very
big deal.ť

05.11.2008Windows 7: Measuring the scale of a release
Steven Sinofsky: With this post, I am hoping to continue the dialog on the way we think śinside the Win7 teamť so to speakin a sense this is about
expanding the team a bit and bringing you into some more of the discussions we have about planning a release. This conversation about major or minor
releases is very much like the one I have with my boss as we start planning :-)
When we started planning the release, the first
thing some might think we have to decide is if Windows 7 (client) would be a śmajor releaseť or not. I put that in quotes because it turns out this
isnt really something you decide nor is it something with a single answer. The magnitude of a release is as much about your perspective on the
features as it is about the features themselves. One could even ask if being declared a major release is a compliment or not. As engineers planning a
product we decide up front the percentage of our development team will that work on the release and the extent of our schedulewith the result in hand
customers each decide for themselves if the release is śmajorť, though of course we like to have an opinion. On the
server blog
we talked about the schedule and we shared our opinion of the scale of the releases of Windows 7 client and server.
Our goal is
about building an awesome release of Windows 7.

21.08.2008Windows 7 On Track For 2010 Release
That's the year we'll make contact, and not before.
Chris Flores, the head of Microsoft Featured Communities confirmed to Neowin by
stating "As most of you are well aware, there has been quite a bit of recent speculation about Win7. While I am not at liberty to discuss the details
of Win7 (yet) I do want to set the record straight that we are still shooting for 2010 - 3 years from the launch of Vista."
Bearing in
mind that 2010 is just a little under a year and a half away, it's unreasonable to think that something would be released in between; however we
can speculate that SP2 for Windows Vista will come before then and may introduce some new features making the upgrade from XP worthwhile. Pure
speculation of course!
