Rapidshare To Be Forced to Shut Down Following Court Defeat?

The music industry in Germany has secured a legal victory over the hugely popular file-hosting service, Rapidshare. According to the rights holders, Rapidshare is going to have to stop its users from downloading infringing music tracks from its servers, or face the prospect of being shut down.

Last week we reported on rumors that Rapidshare had, or was about to be, shut down, rumors that now look likely to resurface. The company, one of the worlds largest ˜one-click file hosting services, has lost a copyright infringement case against German performing rights outfit, GEMA. Representing a claimed 60,000 members and more than 1 million rights owners worldwide, GEMA has taken an aggressive stance in pursuing legal action against Rapidshare, trying to force it to be accountable for the infringing actions of its users.

As ISPs choke file-sharing, users look elsewhere

As ISPs constrict file-sharing services such as BitTorrent, new data shows that users are moving to file-hosting Web sites to avoid slow downloads.

RapidShare and MegaUpload are among the most used file-hosting services. Together, the two sites account for 9 percent of all Internet traffic in the Middle East and 4 percent in Germany, according to iPoque, a company based in Leipzig, Germany, that specializes in traffic-management appliances for ISPs.

The percentages are significant since over the last year usage of file-sharing sites, which number in the dozens, has surged, said Klaus Mochalski, iPoque's CEO. The sites offer potentially faster download speeds for sharing files than peer-to-peer networks.

Old Plus! Meets New WLM

It seems that a few guys over at mess.be have been digging out their old builds of Messenger Plus! and to their suprise have found that certain Plus! builds are around 80% fully compatible with the latest WLM build 562.
Messenger Plus! 3.61 (released in October, get it here) and older versions do work with 8.0.0562, although limited to a small set of features like the Messenger lock and the boss key and most likely a few other minor features.

Patchou however, does not recommend this combo and advises to uninstall Plus! as soon as WLM starts behaving strangely.

Patchou has already started developing Messenger Plus! Live specifically for Windows Live Messenger which we previously reported back in December 2005.

Msg Plus! Live Leaked

The highly anticipated Messenger Plus Live! has leaked, despite the best efforts of developer Patchou.

A group or person by the name of "ENJOi", tonight uploaded the 9mb setup file to RapidShare (which has since been removed).

The build which leaked, carries the build number 4.0.0.214, which to non-testers, it is not known wether this is a new or old build.

A few days ago, Messenger fan site Mess.be posted that there was a file circulating that claimed to be the messenger add-on, when in actual fact it was a virus designed to cripple your Messenger account.

Patchou has been made aware of the situation and has not made any statement as of yet.

Thanks for the heads up Liger !
