How to Share Large File on The Web Using MegaUpload
The following tutorial will explain you how to share a large file on the web between you and your friend or anyone else. I'm choosing
MegaUpload as an example here - not for any particular reason - but later, I might write more tutorial for other large file sharing service, such as
YouSendIt and
RapidShare.
One of the most advantage of using MegaUpload, compare with other similar service, is the duration how long your file(s) will be kept in their server. Your uploaded files will be deleted only after it become unused for 30 days. So, if many of your friends download it, over and over again, the files will always be there. The size is quite big, up to 250MB. Not as big as YouSendIt which allow up to 1GB file size, but it's more than enough to share your music files, movies, etc.

Rapidshare To Be Forced to Shut Down Following Court Defeat?

Rapidshare is going to have to stop its users from downloading infringing music tracks from its servers, or face the prospect of being shut down.
Last week we reported on rumors that Rapidshare had, or was about to be, shut down, rumors that now look likely to resurface. The company, one of the
worlds largest ˜one-click file hosting services, has lost a copyright infringement case against German performing rights outfit, GEMA. Representing a
claimed 60,000 members and more than 1 million rights owners worldwide, GEMA has taken an aggressive stance in pursuing legal action against
Rapidshare, trying to force it to be accountable for the infringing actions of its users.

Microsoft Expands XBLA File Size to 250 MB
The Xbox Live Arcade file size
was capped at 50 MB to
accommodate consumers who
purchased the hard drive-less
Xbox 360 Core SKU (those
consumers had to use one of
Microsoft's memory cards).
Under
condition of anonymity,
sources revealed that the file
size for Xbox Live Arcade
titles has been increased from
50 MB to 250 MB and with
Microsoft's approval, that
size can be expanded to 450
MB.
When
asked for comment on the
reported change to file size,
Microsoft said, "We do not
comment on rumor and
speculation and so we can not
confirm that rumor. Aside from
the exception we granted for
'Castlevania: Symphony of the
Night,' we have not announced
any plans to alter the file
size standard for Xbox Live
Arcade games. However,
adjusting the size limit is
certainly an option in the
future, and as always, we are
listening to feedback both
from gamers and developers on
what will provide the best
user experience. Whatever
choice we make, we will hold a
position that provides for the
best possible Xbox Live Arcade
gameplay experience."

As ISPs choke file-sharing, users look elsewhere
As ISPs constrict
file-sharing services such as BitTorrent, new data shows that users are moving to file-hosting Web sites to avoid slow downloads.
RapidShare and MegaUpload are
among the most used file-hosting services. Together, the two sites account for 9 percent of all Internet traffic in the Middle East and 4 percent in
Germany, according to iPoque, a company based in Leipzig, Germany, that specializes in traffic-management appliances for ISPs.
The percentages are significant since over the last year usage of file-sharing sites, which number in the dozens, has surged, said Klaus
Mochalski, iPoque's CEO. The sites offer potentially faster download speeds for sharing files than peer-to-peer networks.

12.12.2006Microsoft to Make Exceptions for Xbox Live Arcade Limitations
When Microsoft launched Xbox Live Arcade, it imposed a 50 MB
size cap on all releases on its service. The reason for this was to maintain
compatibility for Xbox 360 owners who do not own a model
with a hard drive.
At the time, a 64MB Memory Unit was the only
alternative,
explaining the need 50 MB limit. A year ago, Microsoft
released
a 512 MB Memory Unit, which
paved the way for the Xbox Live Arcade game
limit to
grow
to 150 MB. A 256 MB Memory Unit is
now standard issue on all
HDD-less
Xbox 360
consoles.
Even with the current Xbox Live Arcade limit three times what it used to be, some developers are finding 150MB
simply not enough to fit in all game assets, particularly those intended for 1080p resolutions.

22.05.2006How long does it take to create a 16TB file?
Although
the theoretical maximum file size on NTFS is 2
64−1 clusters,
the current implementation of the NTFS driver supports files
up
to "only" 16TB minus 64KB.
(In other words, the disk format supports files up to
2
64−1 clusters,
but the
current drivers won't go above 16TB−64KB.)
Back in 2002,
in order to verify that the drivers did indeed support files
as big as their design maximum,
the NTFS test team sat down,
created a volume slightly bigger than 16TB,
and then created a file of
the maximum supported size,
filling it with a known pattern.
After the file was successfully created,
they then ran another program that
read the entire file back into
memory and verified that the contents were correct.
(They ran other tests, too, of course, but those are the
ones that
are important to this story.)
How long did it take to create this nearly-16TB file?
Around
three days.

04.12.2007Games to occupy up to 70% less space
During the Game Developers
Conference held in London this
week, an unknown company
Allegorithmic demonstrated
their technology to reduce the
size of texture files by up to
70% .
The
two programs, known as ProFX
and MaP Zone 2, should
potentially lessen the file
sizes of textures even while
the files keep the same
quality as current texture
files today. A show of their
programs' capabilities came
in the form of a demo for
RoboBlitz, which is coming out
for Xbox Live Arcade. With a
50 MB cap on the file size for
these game, file sizes did
have to be lessened, and
according to the report, the
game ran well on its Unreal 3
engine with only a 280kb size
for the overall texture
files.
What could
this mean to us? Web based
games anticipated by many
companies will become a
reality soon. Games will also
have more complexed and
sophisticated textures. All
these will create a revolution
in the gaming industry.

Comcast, the largest provider of cable-based broadband service in the U.S., will limit residential customers to 250GB of bandwidth a month beginning
Oct. 1, the company announced late Thursday. Comcast will contact customers who go above the 250GB limit and ask them to curtail their use, Comcast

Currently,
Comcast contacts high-bandwidth customers and will suspend their accounts if they don't curb their use, but it has not set a firm bandwidth limit

One million UK consumers have exceeded or come close to exceeding their broadband usage limit, research from consumer group uSwitch has found.
So-called usage caps, where internet service providers limit the amount of bandwidth users can have in any given month, are standard

But the majority of users are still confused by the bandwidth curbs imposed on them, the research found.
For some who

"With so much reliance on broadband, having the service disconnected could feel to
