Tools to Automate RapidShare Downloading for Free Users With No CAPTCHA

RapidShare CAPTCHA has always been hacked no matter how tough they made it. Usually whenever RapidShare updates their CAPTCHA, it only took a few days for third party download tools to auto recognize it. One of the toughest CAPTCHA was with cats and dogs in them and it took 3-4 weeks to be cracked. A few days after the cats and dogs CAPTCHA has been cracked, RapidShare installed a new CAPTCHA system called TEABAG_3D.

Rapidshare To Be Forced to Shut Down Following Court Defeat?

The music industry in Germany has secured a legal victory over the hugely popular file-hosting service, Rapidshare. According to the rights holders, Rapidshare is going to have to stop its users from downloading infringing music tracks from its servers, or face the prospect of being shut down.

Last week we reported on rumors that Rapidshare had, or was about to be, shut down, rumors that now look likely to resurface. The company, one of the worlds largest ˜one-click file hosting services, has lost a copyright infringement case against German performing rights outfit, GEMA. Representing a claimed 60,000 members and more than 1 million rights owners worldwide, GEMA has taken an aggressive stance in pursuing legal action against Rapidshare, trying to force it to be accountable for the infringing actions of its users.

As ISPs choke file-sharing, users look elsewhere

As ISPs constrict file-sharing services such as BitTorrent, new data shows that users are moving to file-hosting Web sites to avoid slow downloads.

RapidShare and MegaUpload are among the most used file-hosting services. Together, the two sites account for 9 percent of all Internet traffic in the Middle East and 4 percent in Germany, according to iPoque, a company based in Leipzig, Germany, that specializes in traffic-management appliances for ISPs.

The percentages are significant since over the last year usage of file-sharing sites, which number in the dozens, has surged, said Klaus Mochalski, iPoque's CEO. The sites offer potentially faster download speeds for sharing files than peer-to-peer networks.

Digg.com users launch new revolt over comments system

Digg.com Thursday found itself facing the wrath of its notoriously vocal users once again as complaints poured in about a new system for posting comments.

The complaints starting rolling in within a few hours after the comment system was launched Thursday evening. By Friday morning, the volatile Digg.com users -- they had staged one of the first online revolts against a social networking site last month -- had "Dugg" almost 5,000 comments that they wouldn't be "force-fed" the new system.

Users complained that the new system takes too much time to load pages and criticized the new requirement to click to read replies to posts. A post by DefectDS, the most popular comment this morning, noted that "loading one set of replies sometimes loads as slowly as loading the pages with all the comments expanded."..

Google Discovers Comments, But Commenters Can't Yet Discover Google

Tuesday's unveiling by Google of another beta feature for its Google News service has sparked a new round of ethical discussions whose tone harks back to the 1950s and '60s, when TV broadcasters debated the ethics and phraseology of the FCC's Fairness Doctrine. People specifically mentioned in a story can now respond to that story through Google instead of through its publisher. But will that provoke comments or complaints?..

Google Adds Its Voice to 700 MHz Gamesmanship

Following in the wake of Verizon and AT&T, whose chief executives have both made comments in the past seven days that were interpreted by analysts as either saying they would bid in the FCC's upcoming auction of the 700 MHz broadcast spectrum or would not bid - depending, one supposes, on which side of the room they were listening on at the time - Google CEO Eric Schmidt added fuel to the fire by making the same kind of bipolar comments...

Revealed: the true scale of opposition to OOXML

Microsoft has revealed that it's received 3,500 "comments" regarding its OOXML format, following the controversial ISO vote earlier this year.

The software giant was embroiled in controversy in August when it was defeated in a fast-track vote to have OOXML approved as an ISO standard. Microsoft was accused of rigging the vote by applying pressure to voting countries - an accusation it strenuously denies - even though the company lost the ballot.

In an exclusive briefing with PC Pro, Microsoft's general manager for corporate interoperability and standards, Tom Robertson, says the company remains confident OOXML will be approved in a second vote early next year. However, he revealed the scale of the opposition facing the company.

"All of the comments that came in during the balloting phase are now being addressed," Robertson says. "3,500 comments came in from around the world. About a thousand of those are unique comments, the rest are duplicates. We're working very systematically through those comments and preparing a response to those."

Google News to allow people in stories to add their own comments

Google News is adding a new feature that will allow people involved in news stories to add their comments to the Web page.

Google plans this week began adding a mechanism that allows people or organizations who are part of a story "to enhance the news experience for readers," Google software engineers Dan Meredith and Andy Golding noted in a blog post.

"Our long-term vision is that any participant will be able to send in their comments, and we'll show them next to the articles about the story," the blog post stated. "Comments will be published in full, without any edits, but marked as 'comments' so readers know it's the individual's perspective, rather than part of a journalist's report."

Google will work with each author individually to confirm their identity by contacting the organization affiliated with the author, contacting local officials or collaborating with journalists, according to the company.

Msg Plus! Live Leaked

The highly anticipated Messenger Plus Live! has leaked, despite the best efforts of developer Patchou.

A group or person by the name of "ENJOi", tonight uploaded the 9mb setup file to RapidShare (which has since been removed).

The build which leaked, carries the build number 4.0.0.214, which to non-testers, it is not known wether this is a new or old build.

A few days ago, Messenger fan site Mess.be posted that there was a file circulating that claimed to be the messenger add-on, when in actual fact it was a virus designed to cripple your Messenger account.

Patchou has been made aware of the situation and has not made any statement as of yet.

Thanks for the heads up Liger !

Online auction site eBay has said it plans to overhaul its feedback system and will ban sellers from leaving negative comments about buyers.

The move, which will affect users worldwide, has angered many sellers. Sellers say it will leave them unprotected.

Netscape Browser Becomes 'Navigator' Again

In a blast from the past, the Netscape Browser, which was resurrected in 2005 by AOL, has become Netscape Navigator once again for version 9.0. The new release, currently in beta, brings a number of new features such as built-in news, URL correction, and link-sharing.

As expected, Netscape Navigator 9 closely integrates with AOL's new Netscape.com site, which lets users vote on stories and leave comments. A new Friends' Activity Sidebar and Tracker provides a quick view of recently posted news and comments on the site.

In addition, a Link Pad enables users to store interesting links that don't merit bookmarking. Navigator 9 can also run any Firefox 2-compatible extension for further customization. On the user interface side, developers have combined the stop and reload button, and brought back the "throbber" from Netscape 7. ..

Macworld: Microsoft's PowerPoint comment compromise

Leaders of Microsoft's Mac Business Unit are spending the day showing Macworld Expo attendees the new Office 2008 for Mac applications. Marcus Aiu, lead program manager of PowerPoint for Mac, is showing many new features in the presentation program. He earned applause, for example, when he demonstrated the ability to use Apple's remote control to page through slides. But he also acknowledged a number of features that Microsoft had to cut or change.

One example: Aiu said Microsoft wanted to make it possible for people to read comments inserted in Mac PowerPoint even when the file is opened in the Windows version of the program. (Comments are tags that can be put into slides by the author or collaborators, not to be confused with the separate field for presentation notes.) The catch: Although comments inserted using PowerPoint 2008 for Mac will work with Windows PowerPoint, they now won't work with PowerPoint 2004 for Mac -- the most recent version of the same program -- because it doesn't use the Windows PowerPoint commenting technology.
