Sundance Strikes iTunes Film Deal
It turns out Apple is not only
interested in movies and TV
shows but film festivals as
well; take the Sundance Film
Festival as an example.
Festival films, 33 of 71 to be
exact, will be sold through
the iTunes store for $1.99
(1) beginning January 22. The
festival, which takes place in
Park City, Utah and debuts
January 18, will also stream
the films on their web site
for three months, free of
charge. Filmmakers will get
the bulk of the download
price, while Apple, the
Sundance Institute and cable
television's Sundance Channel
will split the remainder. Mr
Cooper said a few more films
will be shown just on the
website but full-length
festival films will not be
offered.
"Streaming on our site is
not the same as owning, and
there seems to be a world out
there for both. What Sundance
is really known for is as a
platform for people to sell
their films, and that's
mainly the feature film. We
didn't want to really
interfere with that yet,"
said John Cooper of the
Sundance Institute.

18.06.2008A (Microsoft) Codename a day: Geneva
Codename of the day: Geneva
Best guess on what it is: An identity metasystem including a new security token service
Meaning/context of the codename: The federated identity folks at Microsoft seem to be favoring Swiss codenames as they fill out their
product family. Geneva is just one of these. There’s also Zermatt (another Swiss desination).
Zermatt is the programming model for Geneva. And then there’s
Zurich, the .Net-based Software-Plus-Services infrastructure that Microsoft is slated to unveil

01.10.2007Fiji' on track to debut before Windows Seven
Before you get all excited, I
should emphasize that the
source of this news post is a
blog. In my defence, it is a
fairly trusted one and
Bink has
already approved it. Fiji
has often been referred to as
the codename for Windows Vista
Service Pack 1. You might as
well throw that association
out the window. It seems Fiji
is actually the next version
of Windows Media Center. This
is a bit odd for many reasons,
even if you don't realize
that the last two WMC
codenames have been precious
stones. Windows Vista's
successor is codenamed Vienna,
formerly codenamed Blackcomb,
but it appears that Microsoft
is now internally referring to
it as Windows Seven.
Microsoft's plan is to
release Fiji before Windows
Seven, much like Windows Media
Center 2005 (codename Emerald)
was available before Windows
Vista.
This seems
to leave us with more
questions than answers. If not
Fiji, what is the codename for
Windows Vista SP1? Why has
Vista's successor gone
through three different
codenames? Doesn't Windows
Vista already include the
latest Windows Media Center
(codename Diamond)? Shouldn't
Windows Seven include the next
version of WMC? I guess
not.

14.08.200510 Warning Signs of Project Failure
Unless you are in a mature industry such as banking or insurance, where information is the life-blood of what you do, chances are you will be familiar
with at least some of these 10 project management failings put together by Robert Francis Group analyst Mimi Ho.
"One, they're
right on the button and two, if you take a look at the large majority of them, it all has to do with project planning and early stages of analysis
that companies like to jump over," said Jeff Monteforte, owner of Exential, an independent project management consultancy in Cleveland, Ohio.
In other words, when IT projects fail it rarely is a result of the technology. At its core, project management is all about people.
