Outlook 2007 users angry over Office 2007 HTML-e-mail changes
A quiet change Microsoft has made in the rendering engine used by Outlook 2007 is beginning to sink in among individuals who have gotten accustomed to having the Internet Explorer (IE) engine render HTML e-mail messages. And the reaction of many is one of anger and disbelief.

Office 2007: Users Wary of Changes
While Microsoft faces a host of challenges in maintaining its market share numbers and persuading customers to upgrade to its 2007 Office System suite of products when released in the second half of this year, its competitors face an equally daunting task of winning users away from Office 2007 and growing their numbers.
Heading the list of challenges facing Microsoft is the fact that Office 2007 has a new user interface, which could require extensive staff retraining at a significant cost, as well as a new file format, which has the potential to create compatibility issues, analysts such as Joe Wilcox of Jupiter Research, told eWEEK.

24.05.2006Microsoft releases stand-alone Outlook with CRM built-in
This morning, Microsoft has come up with a new approach to the problem for which some Outlook users have been asking for over a decade: It's amending
Outlook to be able to handle business contacts in a relational manner -- for example, to group customers by the contact who brought them to you, or to
maintain custom data on those customers. Contact management is being built directly into Outlook.
But there's a catch: Microsoft
Office Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager, as the product will now be known, is a separate version of Outlook that will be integrated,
starting today, into Office Small Business, Professional, and Ultimate editions. For those who already have Office editions with the pre-existing
Outlook 2007, or who purchase Outlook or Office without the Business Contact Manager, the new version will be available separately as a replacement
for $149.95.

If you’re a fan of the Outlook 2007 To-Do Bar, but wish your upcoming appointments and tasks could be shown even when Outlook was minimized,

One of the new features introduced in Windows
Vista is the Windows Sidebar, an application that allows gadgets—small applications that provide quick access to useful information or
commands—to be displayed on your desktop or in the Sidebar.
The Sidebar presented a great opportunity for Outlook to surface the same
information that we show in the To-Do Bar. To this end, we developed two Outlook gadgets: Outlook Appointments and Outlook Tasks. These gadgets can be
used independently or together to provide at-a-glance information without the need to bring up Outlook.

30.11.2007How I Use Outlook - 7 Tips
There are so many things you can do with Outlook, but I have to admit, I've never fully explorered all its features. However, the more I
"live" in my Outlook at work, the more I've become obsessed with finding new and useful ways to get things done as efficiently and

1. The
ClearContext add-in - every since someone told me about this add-in, I've been using the heck out of it. Although I can only afford the free
version, I've found it unbelievably useful for categorizing my mail. Since I had been using a folders system prior to the Outlook 2007 upgrade, I
didn't feel much like redoing this system just to use Outlook 2007's color-coded categories. Instead, I use a mashup of ClearContext labels
and Outlook categories... (

15.08.2007Outlook 2007/2003/2002 Add-in: Personal Folders Backup
Backing up your Microsoft Outlook information is quicker and easier with the Personal Folders Backup feature. Personal Folders Backup creates backup
copies of your .PST files at regular intervals, in Outlook 2002 and later versions, making it easy to keep all of your Outlook folders safely backed
up.
With Personal Folders Backup, you can choose which of your .PST files you wish to back up, and how often you wish to back
them up.
Each .PST file contains all of your Outlook folders, including the Inbox, Calendar, and Contacts. You can have a single
.PST file (usually called "Internet Folders" or "Personal Folders" in your Folder List), but you might also have an additional .PST file that you
use for archiving ("Archiving Folders"). Personal Folders Backup lets you back up any or all of these .PST files.

24.04.2008Microsoft Tries to Explain Away Outlook 2007 Controversy
Microsoft is trying to dampen
criticism by explaining its
controversial decision to
unify the rendering and
editing engines in Outlook
2007 and use only the Word
2007 engine, even though there
are some HTML and Cascading
Style Sheet attributes that
the engine does not currently
support. The move is a
significant change from
previous versions of Outlook,
which actually used two
rendering engines: Internet
Explorer's engine was used
for reading content, while
Word was used for editing
content when a user was
composing messages. Outlook
2007 now uses the HTML parsing
and rendering engine from Word
2007 to display HTML message
bodies.
However,
there are some HTML and CSS
attributes that the Word 2007
rendering engine does not
support, and Outlook 2007 now
does not use the same
standards as Internet Explorer
7. The move has not been
well-received by some
bloggers, such as SitePoint's
Kevin Yank, who said in a
recent post that instead of
taking advantage of Internet
Explorer 7, Outlook 2007 uses
the very limited support for
HTML and CSS built into Word
2007 to display HTML e-mail
messages.

31.01.2007Outlook Anywhere changes in Exchange Server 2007 SP1
In Exchange Server 2007 SP1, the configuration of Outlook Anywhere (formerly known as RPC over HTTP) has been changed to accommodate the different
ways Exchange CAS servers are deployed on the Internet. This blog post provides an overview of these changes.
In Exchange 2007
RTM, enabling Outlook Anywhere (using either the Exchange Management Console or the Exchange Management Shell enable-OutlookAnywhere cmdlet) required
a mandatory parameter called ExternalAuthenticationMethod. This parameter was used to update Outlook 2007 clients using the Autodiscover service.
Changing this parameter, however, did not influence the authentication methods enabled on the /rpc virtual directory on IIS servers. As a result, both
Basic and NTLM authentication methods were always enabled even though Outlook clients would connect using only 1 authentication method. Additionally,
it was not possible to manually turn off an authentication method using the IISManager MMC snap-in, since every 15 minutes the Exchange Services Host
Service would automatically re-enable both Basic and NTLM authentication methods in IIS.
Note that if you had already enabled
Outlook Anywhere, the ExternalAuthenticationMethod parameter could also be specified through the set-outlookAnywhere task, and it had the same effect
as described above.
For further details, you can refer to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123513.aspx For Exchange 2007 SP1, instead of always enabling
Basic and NTLM, Outlook Anywhere now provides the ability to choose the authentication methods that will be enabled on the /rpc virtual directory in
IIS.
