MSDN Opens Up to Firefox, Opera

Free Opera Hits 1 Million Downloads
Just 48 hours after Opera Software removed the ads and license fee from its popular Web browser, Opera 8.5 has been downloaded by over 1 million people, the company said Thursday. The number is double Opera's previous download record, which it achieved in April with version 8.0.

Opera Software has released a beta of its upcoming desktop browser, code-named Kestrel, which can synchronize bookmarks between a PC and a mobile
device. The update to Opera 9.5, released Thursday, also fixes "hundreds of bugs" that were in the alpha version, said Huid Kleinhout,
desktop team manager, in Operas desktop blog. "Web site rendering has been significantly improved, along with performance, stability and
usability," he wrote.
The synching feature, called Opera Link, can sychronize bookmarks between Operas mobile and desktop browsers.
When a person uses Opera Mini 4.5, a mobile browser thats also in beta, and the desktop browser, new bookmarks are copied to a server and made
available in both browsers. The bookmarks can also be accessed from any other browser by logging into the Opera Link Web page.

Opera is getting ready to launch its alpha version of Opera 9.5 tomorrow, and
some of the new features indicate that this upcoming release will prove to be significant.
The rendering engine for Opera 9.5,
nicknamed Kestrel, has been greatly improved, giving you better speed, better CSS3 support, and improved Ajax compatibility. This is the same
rendering engine that is used by Wiis Internet Channel browser, as well as Opera Mini 4 Beta. Site compatibility for Kestrel has also been improved,
as Opera has fixed bugs with Google and Wordpress sites, as well as issues with Javascript libraries.
For sites that still cant
be opened in the Opera browser, youre presented with the option to right-click in order to open it in another browser. This option is available for
some files as well, but full support hasnt been added for this feature just yet. Opera 9.5 also has the option to privately synchronize your
bookmarks, giving you access from any computer. Theres also a full history search option, which scours through URLs and text of sites youve already
visited.
