BizTalk Server 2006 Beta 2

Whatsmore you don't need to wait until midnight to pick it up either :). As of now BizTalk Server 2006 Beta 2 is available at betaplace. We haven't updated ms.com yet (its coming) but the instructions are the same as the CTP. This time around there is the main product CD and a separate Adapters CD. Beta 2 had a strong quality bar (production beta for early adopters) so I think you are going to like it.

This week is Thanksgiving week. I never really understood why American's have their longest holiday of the year in the darkest time of the year - but then again coming from a country that celebrates X-mas on the beach with a cricket game what do you expect.

How I got Bonjour running on my iPhone

Holy. Cow. Do I ever need some rest. I just spent most of last night figuring out how to get Bonjour (aka mDNS) running on my iPhone. Bonjour offers configuration-free networking technology. Computers (and iPhones) automagically broadcast their services, which you can then listen for and take advantage of. This has been a long-term project that Ive been plugging away at for months.

So what makes this exciting? With Bonjour, your iPhone and touch can talk to your Mac. They can talk to printers or to each other. They can browse for available services or provide their own as a server. What I put together was a pair of applications: PicSend and PicListen. These apps allow you to subscribe to a camera on another persons iPhone. Just tell that iPhone to snap a picture and within seconds that picture appears on your own screen.

Congestion warning needed for the net

Isn't it time we had proper alerts about technology problems, asks columnist Bill Thompson?

As a radio addict I often find myself with 5 Live burbling away in the background as I sit at my keyboard in the early morning, taking advantage of that first caffeine hit of the day to get some serious work done.

Every now and then the traffic report comes on, and I feel the smugness that comes from knowing I don't have to negotiate the M6 or fight my way across the roundabouts of Slough in order to get to work.

Yet from time to time I hit my own traffic jam, one that never makes it onto the drive time news.

A flashing green light on the cable modem means I'm cut off from the internet, unable even to check the network status page on my ISPs website.
