Office 2007: Users Wary of Changes
While Microsoft faces a host of challenges in maintaining its market share numbers and persuading customers to upgrade to its 2007 Office System suite of products when released in the second half of this year, its competitors face an equally daunting task of winning users away from Office 2007 and growing their numbers.
Heading the list of challenges facing Microsoft is the fact that Office 2007 has a new user interface, which could require extensive staff retraining at a significant cost, as well as a new file format, which has the potential to create compatibility issues, analysts such as Joe Wilcox of Jupiter Research, told eWEEK.

The short answer is yes, but the longer
answer is probably not in the way you think. The license for all versions of Office 2007 except Home and Student edition are very clear. (To view your
license, open any Ribbon-based Office program, click the Office button, click Word Options, select the Resources tab, and click About

License terms link.)

One of the most notable additions to Microsoft's 2007 Office System was the Trust Center, which centralizes the security options in Word, Excel,
Outlook, PowerPoint, and the other applications in the suite. Of course, this being Office, it figures that many of the most important security
features--including the new Document Inspector--also reside elsewhere.
To open the Trust Center in the 2007 versions of Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, click the Office button, select the Options button at the bottom-right of the window, choose Trust Center in the left
pane, and click the Trust Center Settings button in the right pane. In Outlook 2007 and Publisher 2007, click Tools > Trust Center.

27.02.2008Office 2007 SP1 Installation/Slipstream Guide
Some of you may be wondering how to do a clean install of Office 2007 using an Office 2007 RTM image along with SP1 at the same time. As you may know,
Office 2007 makes use of the Updates folder in the installation media to install any new updates that it finds in the folder however updates have to
be in the .msp file format for them to be recognized. Since the Office 2007 SP1 update file is delivered in the .exe format, an extra step is required
before being able to proceed:
First, you should copy the contents of the Office 2007 RTM image to a temporary folder. For our
example we're using C:O2007Temp. We have also copied the Office 2007 SP1 Update file (office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe) to the D:
drive.
Then, using the Run command in Windows XP/Vista (WinKey+R), run the following command:
D:office2007sp1-kb936982-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:C:O2007TempUpdates
replacing D: with wherever you stored
the Office 2007 SP1 update file and C:O2007Temp with wherever you stored the Office 2007 RTM files. After agreeing to the Microsoft Software
License Terms, SP1 will be extracted to C:O2007TempUpdates.
That's it! Just start the setup for Office 2007 and the
updates for SP1 will then be picked up and installed during the setup. The same method applies to any other Office 2007 SP1 update.

12.12.2007Office 2007 SP1 Update Availability Clarification
Bobbie Harder: Posting this as I've noted just a little bit of confusion with how Office 2007 SP1 is made available for download after it's release
yesterday. As you know, Office 2007 SP1 was released yesterday to Microsoft Update, and to WSUS as part of the Tues, Dec 11th release.
As planned, Office 2007 SP1 was not pushed via Automatic Updates. There has been some confusion where Windows Vista customers are seeing
Office 2007 SP1 listed as available with an option to install in their Windows Update control panel applet. The new Vista experience of the Windows
Update applet combines the convenience of the Microsoft Update site, by isting all applicable available updates, and the best of the Automatic
Updates behavior. This allows users to specify what update types they want to automatically download and install (and when), as well as combines the
interactive experience of the Microsoft Update site.

04.12.2006Office 2007: First impressions of an average user
OK, well perhaps I am not the
average user, but I can say
with my hand on my heart that
I have never installed any of
the Office 2007 Betas and, for
what it's worth, not really
followed the Office 2007
developement program with as
much energy as others.
So, overnight I
fired-up my Technet Plus
subscription and downloaded
Office 2007 Professional with
a view to evaluating the final
product. The first thing I
noticed was the choice of
versions available...one of
the things I actually was
aware of from the various news
posts here at bink.nu.
Looking through the programs
available for each version I
settled on the Pro download.
At 410meg it wasn't that
large, I certainly expected a
bigger download. Nice to see.
I let it download whilst I
caught up on my beauty
sleep.
The install
of Office 2007 was
fantastically simple. I mean
that, in fact, I can't
believe how much so. Finally,
a Microsoft app that asks me
for my product key up front
and then doesn't bother me
again until the end! The
install removed my Office 2k3
install and put down 2007. As
smoothly as I could have ever
wanted.
Again,
having not really spent much
time going over beta
screenshots like some people
do, I was really taken back by
the UI in Word. Outlook was
about as I expected, but Word
and Excel really threw
me...for about 4 minutes.
Seriously, that's all it
took. The UI is simple, makes
a lot of sense, and wasn't
hard at all to 'master'.
OK, 1 vote from me.

There are a number of boot options that can be used in Vista and Windows Server 2008 that can be a pain to modify (or not possible if you are in a

Some example boot switches you might want to use are...
