some external testers say they've now got access to documentation outlining what's coming in the imminent alpha build. Testers are expected to
receive alpha code of SharePoint Server 14 and Office for Sales 14. Microsoft also told the alpha testers to expect a "first beta"of Office 14 later
this year. Mary Jo also questioned Rajesh Jha, Corporate Vice President of Office Live and Exchange on the release schedule of Office 14, Jha said
to expect Microsoft to update customers "later this quarter" about its rollout and release plans for Office 14.

The Technical Preview of Office 2010 has officially leaked! WZor.net uploaded a torrent a few hours ago for both the x86 and x64 versions of the
new Office suite.

Microsoft will begin alpha testing the next version of Office in November or December, according to a blog posting by a Microsoft employee that was
later pulled from the Web. According to the blog posting, by Hayley Rixon, who works on the Microsoft business intelligence team, Microsoft is calling
for people to be part of a technology adoption program (TAP) that will give them an early opportunity to test the monitoring and analytics components
of Office PerformancePoint Server.
The TAP for this product will be a part of the TAP for Office 14, the alpha test of which will begin in
the "November/December timeframe this year," according to the blog posting. Office PerformancePoint Server is business performance analysis software
that will be a part of the Office 14 release. While the blog posting was live on Microsoft's Technet site on Monday afternoon Eastern time, by
afternoon on the West coast the Web site was no longer working. The post also no longer appears on Rixon's blog.
Microsoft could not be
reached for comment Tuesday about the site no longer being active. However, on Monday through its public relations firm Microsoft said that while the
Office team is working on the next version, "it is too early to discuss specific features, capabilities or timing" for the product. The deadline for
submissions to be a part of the Office PerformancePoint Server TAP is Aug. 28, according to the post.

Office version and many have speculated we might not see the product until 2010. Microsoft failed to provide any solid information at last years PDC,
choosing to focus on its Office Live offerings. Eagled eyed Microsoft enthusiast and blogger Stephen Chapman has spotted what appears to be an
internal software roadmap from Microsoft. The roadmap reveals a milestone of year end 2009 but the dates aren't very clear: In the roadmap you
can see that Office 14 is clearly identified as Microsoft Office System 2009.

Even though the recent word that the next version of Microsoft Office, dubbed Office 14, was delayed until next year, we have good news for those of
you who are still using Windows XP. Microsoft's Chris Capossela has informed the Silicon Valley Insider that Office 14 will run on Windows XP,
Windows Vista, and Windows 7. In a statement Capossela noted: "Our install base of Office 2003 and 2007 is actually quite quite high in enterprises
even if XP is what most enterprises are still using on their PCs. We're looking at XP
with some service pack.

Ballmer: Office 14 will not be released in 2009
Despite Windows 7's release looming over the horizon, ZDNet has stated that Steve Ballmer himself said, "Office 14 will not be this year," in an
interview with analysts at the Wall Street Journal. Keen readers will notice that Ballmer called it Office 14, and not Office System 2009 which it
could possibly be named on release. Many people thought that Microsoft would time the new Office revision along with Windows 7's release, as many
businesses prefer to upgrade to a new OS and a new Office suite at the same time, but Ballmer has dashed all thoughts of this happening.

Office 2010 screenshots emerge

First Office 14 screenshot unveiled?
Microsoft enthusiast and blogger Stephen Chapman sends word that he has discovered an early concept Office 14 screenshot from a PowerPoint
presentation hosted on Microsoft.com. The screenshot itself appears to be from a slide deck detailing Grava's intergration into Office 14. Grava
is a set of tools developed for the needs of those creating educational content. Stephen says he "noticed that instead of the Office logo in the orb,
there's a 'G' to obviously signify Grava, so does this mean we're looking at a standalone Grava application or a conceptual idea for
how the interface of Office might change to signify the user is currently using Grava?

Trojan, distributed over torrent, blocks torrent sites
A trojan named Troj/Qhost-AC, has been spotted on torrent sites labeled as a keygen for popular software. But in a strange surprise, the trojan would
modify the users host file, rather than generating a key, changing popular torrent web sites like, The Pirate Bay, Suprbay (The Pirate Bay forum) and
Mininova, the two most popular torrent sites on the internet to 127.0.0.1, making it impossible to visit these sites. The Trojan caused pop-ups on
users screens and played a sound file saying "downloading is wrong". The Trojan didn't install any other spyware or malware onto the victims
PC, other than blocking the three web sites, something that many users thought was strange.

and Bit Torrent traffic does exist and it is anticipated that the effectiveness of this will be tested in the live pilot trial". It is a drastic
step to filter out all P2P and Bit Torrent traffic as it assumes that those channels are only used for piracy. One example of legitimate use is the
popular online game World of Warcraft.

'Office 14' to be more Web-friendly, Gates says
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates talked publicly for the first time on Monday about the next big Office release, code-named Office 14, which he said will
give users new ways to access their applications online.
Microsoft won't provide the full functionality of Office online, but it
will offer limited capabilities to view and edit the data in Office applications. It already does this for its Outlook e-mail client with a product
called Outlook Web Access, and it will offer similar capabilities for other applications in Office 14, Gates said in a speech at the Microsoft Office
System Developer Conference in San Jose, California.
"Outlook Web Access is not the full version of Office, but if you want to
go into a kiosk or an Internet cafe and browse and connect, it gives you plenty of functionality," he said. "As we look at all the modules , we have in mind the equivalent of Outlook Web Access," Gates said.

"txtor" tool circumvents basic torrent blockers
To the frustration of many students and other avid torrent downloaders, some universities and ISPs have been known to block the download of .torrent
files in an effort to curb illegal file sharing. This quick and dirty method of filtering Internet content is usually done through the use of a proxy
server that will look for a torrent mime-type in the file or, even simpler, the file extension itself. Although this method seems almost too simple to
take seriously, enough admins have found it effective enough to justify its use.
That's why a group of developers launched txtor today, a site that makes it possible to download .torrent files as if they were text
files. As the site explains, from the user perspective, the service functions very simply. Plug in the URL of a torrent file, and it's translated to
a text file for you to download. For a moderately more technical explanation, the site merely takes the file and changes the mimetype and extension,
then spits it back out at you as a text file in order to bypass proxy-level torrent file blocks. Then, all you need to do is change the file extension
back from .txt to .torrent and open it up in your favorite torrent client. Based on our testing of txtor, we can say that the tool works exactly as
advertised.
