Intel Atom vs. VIA Nano
A battle of the most powerful processors on the face of the Earth? Nope. Who sucks the least? Not really, but closer. Marketing teams will have you
believe one thing, but we are here today to show HardOCP readers what they likely care about. Which one just works better, Atom or Nano?

29.07.2008EU to continue anti-trust case, regardless of Windows 7 E
The recent shenanigans between the EU and Microsoft have been rather tedious; it's taken a long time for anything to happen, really, and Microsoft
has even had to cancel a hearing once. However, with the recent introduction of Windows 7 E, many thought that the trouble would be over... but they
were wrong. Nope, according to Ars Technica, the EU is still set on pursuing their anti-trust case with the Redmond company, despite them going out of
their way to create a new SKU just for the region.

13.06.2009Dell scraps 12" Netbook range
Reports are surfacing that Dell has decided to no longer provide a 12" Netbook range. According to Dell this is due to the fact that, according to
the user base, 10" is the 'sweet spot' for Netbooks and there isn't a great deal of a market for the slightly larger 12", as a result
the size will be disbanded. Lionel Menchaca, the Chief Blogger on Dell's US website gave the following statement after the news was reported on
news bulletin websites: So, should you read anything into this as far as Dell's commitment to the netbook space? Nope. It really boils down to
this: for a lot of customers, 10-inch displays are the sweet spot for netbooks.

10.08.2009Vista: Victim of Enterprise Malaise
Joe Wilcox: Windows Vista probably deserves a break, but it won't be getting one from enterprises.
Majorwhat Microsoft would
callmilestones aren't driving enterprises to radically change their Vista adoption plans. Even I'm surprised. I expected the release of Windows
Vista Service Pack 1 or the end of Windows XP OEM sales to mean something for Vista adoption. Nope.
If Vista were a person, it
might have an insecurity complex from all the rejectionand for good reason. Not since Windows Me has a Microsoft operating system seen such cool
market reception. Based on a recent eWEEK survey of more than 400 IT decision makers, enterprises aren't lessening their resistance, even when there
is good reason.

18.07.2008Blogger gets $200 check from HP for declining Vista's EULA
Blogger
uncle_benji went over to Best Buy and purchased an HP dv6815nr for $599.99
plus tax. When he saw the Windows Vista EULA and the HP EULA, he decided he wanted to move to Linux. He wasn't happy that there wasn't an option to
decline the EULA, but didn't take his revenge on Microsoft by just grabbing one of the many Linux distro install discs. Nope, first things first:
this user decided to call HP and demand a refund for Microsoft's latest operating system. After all, Microsoft's EULA does say to contact the
manufacturer if the user does not agree with it. This user simply took it a step further and made sure that he was not paying for something he wasn't
going to use.

22.07.2008Check it out: Speech@Microsoft
Nope, it's not a new email address -- it's a new blog. The team responsible for incorporating speech technology into Windows Vista, among other
products, has a
new blog called Speech @ Microsoft. Their blog started just this
month and inaugural posts cover such topics as using speech APIs (COM or .NET) in applications and which languages are supported by Windows Speech
Recognition and TTS (text-to-speech) in Windows Vista. If you're interested in
Windows Vista's speech recognition capabilities (you
did know that it's present in all editions of Windows Vista, didn't you?), then keep this blog on your radar.

Are all ˜open Web platforms created equal?
There's been a lot of talk lately about various Web platform vendors opening up their programming interfaces in order to make their offerings more
readily customizable and programmable.
Facebook has opened up its
social-networking platform to developers. Google is poised
to open its Orkut social-networking application programming interface (API) to allow third-party developers to write plug-in apps. MySpace has
been said to be opening (and then, not ready yet to open) its APIs.
Who isn’t mentioned in any of these conversations?
Microsoft. Is it because Microsoft hasn’t opened up its various Windows Live APIs to other developers? Nope. Microsoft announced in late April
its plans for opening up and providing licensing terms for several of its key Windows Live
APIs, including Windows Live Contacts, Windows Live Spaces Photo Control and Windows Live Data Protocols.
So why is Microsoft
seemingly irrelevant to the conversation, when it comes to opening up its Web platform? There are a few different theories...

Live OneCare Home Page Crashes Internet Explorer 7 x64
So I'm sitting here trying to
get the Windows Live OneCare
version 1.6 story up on the
front page, and I can't
figure out why Internet
Explorer 7 keeps crashing.
I've never ever seen it crash
before. And yet, it always
seems to happily commit
suicide right before I'm done
putting the news article
together. I finally track the
problem down to the fact I
keep launching the OneCare
home page to grab the link.
Yes, you read
correctly. It would appear
that Microsoft's Windows Live
OneCare home page causes IE7
64bit to crash. I took the
liberty of downloading Firefox
x64 to make sure it had
nothing to do with 64bit web
browsers in general. Nope,
Firefox loaded the page just
fine. How embarrassing for
Microsoft. The issue has been
reproduced on two separate
Windows Vista machines with
entirely different
configurations. Can anyone
confirm the issue with IE7 x64
on XP?
Note: On
Vista x64, IE7 32bit will load
the site correctly.
