Popfly Named to PC World Top 25 Most Innovative List

John Montgomery: This morning, PC World posted a story about the top 25 most innovative products of 2007 and Popfly made the list. Needless to say, we're celebrating here at Popfly HQ, though I have to say that at 8:30AM on the Friday of Christmas week the "celebration" consists of me having a cup of herbal tea and chuckling to myself while hoping that somebody else shows up before 10.

Adam, the architect who started Popfly, has not only this good news to put under his tree, but also the fact that his book, "WPF Unleashed" has been nominated for a 2007 Jolt Product Excellence Award.

Putting pen to e-paper: iRex iLiad ebook reader review

The iLiad ebook reader, from Dutch company iRex, hopes to slaughter the competition even as it carves a huge hole into your wallet. If you've been holding off on ebook readers because they lack WiFi and the ability to scribble in the margins, you might want to welcome the iLiad inside your gates.

Sadly, as the Odyssey reminds us, attractive and innovative mechanical products often hide some problems. You won't be slaughtered in the night by rampaging Achaeanscertainly good newsbut you will have contend with some issues. But the iLiad has a lot to like. Despite losing in the looks department to Sony, the iLiad is one of those products that make you realize just how incredible an entire category could become once the price is right.

Questions and comments about Firefox 3, IE 8, the future of

Web browsers, cloud computing, and how it all comes together.

Paul Thurrott: So it's always amusing to me when the mainstream press tries to cover tech products, but I was particularly interested in this one since I'm in the middle of writing my own Firefox 3 review. I think that terms like "innovative" are thrown around too casually these days, and while I realize the competitive advantages inherent in using terms like that, let's be honest here: Firefox 3 is excellent, but it's not innovative at all, it's just an evolution of what browsers have always been. And that's fine, I guess. One thing this guy does get right, however, is that the browser is increasingly important because it's the gateway through which we do and will in the future experience cloud computing

The Microsoft Mac BU have known to be much more innovative and risk-taking than the rest of Microsoft. So either this is has to be Pandora’s box in disguise or they got drunk with the Windows 3.1 guys one night.

10 Futuristic User Interfaces

Good user interfaces are crucial for good user experience. It doesnt matter how good a technology is if we, designers, dont manage to make user interface as intuitive and attractive as possible, the technology will hardly reach a breakthrough. To gain the interest in a new product or technology, users need to understand its advantages or find themselves impressed or involved.

And here is where creative ideas and unusual interface approaches become important. Innovative doesnt mean usable and usable hardly means innovative. As usual, its necessary to find an optimal trade-off. And some user interfaces manage to achieve just that...
