Multi-Language: You can now install MUI packs on your CRM server and clients to support additional languages. Being limited to a single language in
the past, a user now can select from a list of available languages and pick his favorite one. The installation of a MUI package is a no-brainer and
additional languages are set up in about 5 minutes.
- Multi-Currency: All currency fields now store the value in the system's base
currency and optionally a foreign currency including the exchange rate. Exchange rates have to be configured at the server. There's no historical
list of exchange rates kept, so I'm pretty sure to see add-ons soon. Anyway it's a big improvement compared to 3.0, where we have been limited to a
single currency.

Over two years in the making,
Sun Microsystems is due to
release the latest version of
its Java Platform Standard
Edition (Java SE) software
Monday, placing particular
emphasis on the application
development platform's
support for other scripting
languages. "Going
multilingual is a big theme of
this release," said Mark
Reinhold, Sun's chief
engineer for Java SE.
Sun's approach used to be
that Java was the solution for
all developers' problems, he
said. But it has since become
clear to Sun that developers
want to use other languages in
conjunction with Java to
create hybrid applications.
Sun has created a collection
of scripting engines on its
Web site, and Java SE 6
includes a preconfigured
version of Mozilla's
open-source Rhino JavaScript
engine.
"Java SE
6 is an extremely significant
release for us," said Jean
Elliott, Sun's senior
director of Java platform
product marketing. She drew
particular attention to
community participation in the
platform's development. For
the first time, hundreds of
non-Sun developers had some
input into the Java SE
development process, beginning
in September 2004 as Sun
released Java SE 5. One area
where developers influenced

windowsultimate.com that the remaining 19 language packs have been made available via Windows Update.
A
multi-language user interface (MUI) pack allows a user to run Windows Vista Ultimate in one of 36 available languages. You can quickly switch among
languages on a single installation of Windows Vista by associating a system language with your login name.

promises better support for
multilingual characters and an
easy way to strip out hidden
information, or metadata, from
a file.

Over than past few months, the Microsoft Virtual Earth team has been preparing the service for one of it's biggest updates since the release.
What's the definition of "one of it's biggest"? Well it's over 48TB of new and improved imagery. Chris Pendleton, Virtual Earth
technical evangelist at Microsoft, announced that the service has updated it's global vector data for the majority of it's tile sets. The
update includes multilingual tile sets for all zoom levels, localized tile sets for Japan, and all Bird's Eye imagery has been updated with new
road map labels.

Microsoft Corp. has failed to
deliver on its promise of
downloadable extras for the
highest-priced version of
Windows Vista, critics claim.
Dubbed "Extras" and
exclusive to Vista Ultimate,
the downloads were touted
before, at and after the
launch as one of a handful of
features that separated the
$399 operating system from
the $239 Home Premium. On
Ultimate's marketing site,
Microsoft currently says of
Extras: "These cutting-edge
programs, innovative services,
and unique publications
provide a richer computing
experience for Windows Vista
Ultimate users."
Trouble is, according to
critics like Scott Dunn, an
editor with the popular
"Windows Secrets"
newsletter, Microsoft hasn't
followed through. Since
January, when Vista was
released to consumers, no new
finished Extra have been
offered to Ultimate users.
"Extras is not a minor
feature of Ultimate," Dunn
argued. "It's one of the
things that sets it apart from
Home Premium, and one of the
few unique things that has
been promised Ultimate
users."
Microsoft
issued three Extras when Vista
debuted, including a poker
game; an add-on to BitLocker,
Vista's whole-disk encryption
tool; and language packs for
the operating system's
Multilingual User Interface.
The next month, Microsoft
posted DreamScene, a video
screensaver, in beta form;
DreamScene has not shifted out
of beta since then.
