MSN to Relaunch as MSN Media Network?
The LiveSide folks are reporting that MSN is looking to relaunch itself as the MSN Media Network. We figured the MSN team would have to do some kind of rebranding, given that most of their properties are now operating under the "Live," rather than the MSN banner. LiveSide says the MSNers are looking to expand their franchises to include
more movie and TV content, as well as some kind of podcasting service. microsoft -

20.10.2006Gmail is 5 years old today
It's hard to believe but five years ago Gmail was launched and changed how we view email storage forever. If you recall when Gmail was made
semi-public it shattered the email storage capacity for any available free service. Storage was measured in gigs and you seemingly could store
unlimited amounts of emails. The Gmail launch also started a frenzy of trying to acquire an invite to the service. It was a clever but very
effective technique by Google to give out invites to users who would then get 10 more invites and so on which caused people to start selling them on
Ebay.

21.07.2009New Windows Live Mail Desktop
Feature Revealed
Using their usual "More Than
Mail" blog, the Windows Live
Mail Desktop Beta team
revealed yet another feature
of it, along with a screenshot
of a recent build.
This build seems to
contain yet another UI change,
slight this time, along with
the so-called Active Search
feature.
"People spend the bulk
of their time online doing two
things: checking their email
and searching the web. We
thought we?d bring the two
together, so you can use
search to act on the ideas and
tasks piling up in your
inbox.
Today,
we?re excited to begin testing
a new feature we?re calling
Active Search for Windows Live
Mail Desktop Beta with a small
group of beta participants in
the US.
Active
Search bridges the gap between
your inbox and the broader web
using the power of search.
Using Active Search is
essentially the same as
conducting a ton of related
searches the old fashioned way
? by cutting and pasting terms
from your email into a
separate web browser ? only
without all the
effort."

03.06.2006Unlimited online storage for free, almost: Wuala
Wuala is a new company with a compelling story for Web users: If you want to share files -- music,
videos, anything -- with your friends and family, it will let you do it for free, with no file size or bandwidth limits.
The
catch: You get 1 GB of storage for free. Beyond that, you get access to free storage in proportion to the amount of storage from your own hard drives
that you share with the Wuala community.
Wuala uses a "mesh" of hard drives from all its users. Everything you share gets
sliced into 500 or so pieces and the distributed in tiny bits, and redundancy, to thousands of other users. When you, or someone you're sharing the
file with, wants to load or play a file, it's pulled in from users, BitTorrent-like.
