19.1.2009Exploring Modularity With Windows 7
Windows 7 may harken back to the days of Windows 95, when you could choose what applications you wanted to install with Windows. But with a twist, as
charging users different amounts for the various modules will be more widespread, and it opens up the possibilities of adding subscription based
software modules as well, such as anti-virus.
When Windows 7 launches sometime after the start of 2010, the desktop OS will be
Microsoft's most "modular" yet. Having never really been comfortable with the idea of a single, monolithic desktop OS offering, Microsoft has
offered multiple desktop OSes in the marketplace ever since the days of Windows NT 3.1, with completely different code bases until they were unified
in Windows 2000. Unification isn't necessarily a good thing, however; Windows Vista is a sprawling, complex OS.

24.03.2008Why MinWin speculation matters
John Carroll: <...> The status of MinWin in Microsofts desktop and server products, however, is not the key reason people are so interested in the
existence of a stripped-down Windows kernel (though it certainly matters, as it might hint at new levels of modularity). Rather, the interest in
MinWin rests more on a realization that more and more embedded devices will share our lives in the future, causing desktop and servers to shrink as a
percentage of the daily computing pie (though just as a percentage; its not so much that we will use desktops and servers less, but that we will use a
lot more embedded devices).

malware can turn off UAC in Windows 7. Later Microsoft responded insisting that this is by design and actually not a bug. Later, again, we had Zheng
