When Google finally showed off their new OS yesterday there was a lot of skepticism about working in the cloud, offline applications and many other
thoughts and concerns. The good news is that if you don't want to read others hands on impressions you can now download and install the OS
yourself. A couple of things to note, firstly the download will only work in a VM environment, second, this is pre-beta software so expect crashes,

Microsoft has kicked off a research project to create software that will take over when it retires Windows. Called Midori, the cut-down operating
system is radically different to Microsoft's older programs. It is centred on the internet and does away with the dependencies that tie Windows to
a single PC. It is seen as Microsoft's answer to rivals' use of "virtualisation" as a way to solve many of the problems of modern-day
computing.
Although Midori has been heard about before now, more details have now been published by Software Development Times after
viewing internal Microsoft documents describing the technology. Midori is believed to be under development because Windows is unlikely to be able to
cope with the pace of change in future technology and the way people use it.

You've likely heard of Microsoft's next-gen operating system projects
Midori and
Singularity, but earlier this month researchers released a prototype for another OS,
code-named
Barrelfish. Barrelfish is an OS written specifically for multicore environments. It hopes to
improve the performance of boxes with such chips by creating a network bus, if you will, between cores. Today such systems tend to share resources
like memory. As demand increases, performance of the box decreases as shared resources don't scale well. Barrelfish instead passes messages between
cores on its bus, and reportedly uses a database-like approach to keep track of the hardware available.

Previously said to launch in the fall, rumors are circulating that Google's Chrome OS will launch within the next week. While Google is mum on the
launch of their new OS they have been known to launch projects in beta form ahead of schedule in the past. It is expected the the first release of
Google OS will not run on standard laptop and desktop computers, but will run on set of Google OS endorsed devices such as select netbooks. Google has
previously said they are working with Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba on the Chrome OS
project.

When Google launched Chrome it was for the Windows platform initially. Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, has publicly stated the Google Chrome will be
released in the near future for OS X but if you're willing to use pre-beta software from Google then you can download Chrome right now. Google
has stated that the software "still lacks certain privacy features, and is not appropriate for general consumer use" which is a gentle reminder that
the software is not complete. But, if you are like most tech enthusiasts and are willing to look past the flaws in the beta, then you will find a
surprisingly stable build of Chrome that can be used for day to day web browsing.

Apple finally pushed out its 10.5.6 update for customers running Leopard today.
The update includes the usual system stability, security
and performance enhancements, as well as supposed graphics enhancements for a better gaming experience.
As always, users on various Mac
enthusiast communities are reporting that the update has made their systems feel a little "snappier", but truth be told, the same thing is said for
