Windows 7 beta download imminent?
Microsoft have updated their Windows 7 site with a download link for the Windows 7 beta. It would appear from the posting that Microsoft is currently
readying site updates and download servers for the imminent release of the Windows 7 beta. Yesterday, German site Winfuture claimed that the beta
would be released today and this could confirm the sites claims. The download link is currently inaccessible. It's entirely possible that once
the page is live it will simply be a sign up page to register your interest. Microsoft will not comment on the exact date and a Microsoft official
confirmed the beta is still targetted for early 2009.

beta will be available. If you are already downloading your beta, better complete the download before Feb 12th! So, if you haven't yet started

Win7 Beta Download Date Extended
After a rough start with distributing the beta, Microsoft must feel guilty. They have extended the time available for public testers to download and
obtain keys for the beta.
All the way up to February 10, downloads and keys will be available for public download. After that date, if
you have the download, keys will still be available.
This cutoff date does not include MSDN and Technet subscribers; the beta along with
the keys will be available throughout the entire testing phase.
The expiration date for the beta is August 1, 2009 with an RC release to selected testers scheduled for before that
date.
If you thought you missed out, but still want to get your hands on the beta, now's the time to do it!

Still a few hours away for CES, it is known that Microsoft is going unveil the Windows 7 Beta at CES. But it is still unsure when would users be able
to download it officially. Mary-Jo Foley reports that public betas of Windows 7 would hit this week along with the private beta. Now, there is some
information available from this Microsoft blog: Attend an upcoming MSDN Developer Conference and you will receive a Windows 7 Beta 1 DVD - and that
immediate upcoming MSDN Developer Conference is on January 13th, which is next Tuesday! At the worst, expect a public beta release next week as the
private beta testers would get priority even if its released earlier.

Microsoft Windows Communications Manager, Brandon LeBlanc, has announced that availability for the Windows 7 beta download has been extended until
February 10th, 2009. Microsoft noted that they have extended the availability as "enthusiasm continues to be so high for the Windows 7 Beta and we
don't want anyone to miss out we will keep the Beta downloads open through February 10th". If you haven't started downloading the beta, you
only have a few weeks left. The company announced that it's plan to end availability will be the result of a three phase strategy.

Update: It appears that Microsoft.com is suffering badly with "server too busy" messages but we now have direct download links below. We revealed
that Microsoft would be posting a public beta of Windows 7 earlier this week and Microsoft has just made it available on it's TechNet channels.

New Windows 7 beta released to select testers
Today, Microsoft released its first wave of invitations for the Windows 7 beta test. The invitations were only sent to a small, select group of
'technical beta' testers. In the email sent to invited testers, Microsoft states that the beta is not available for download right away. A
reliable Russian website (demo:demo) has claimed that the beta Microsoft will upload is build 7000.0.081212-1400, built December 12th. They also claim
the build will be made available to testers within the next 48 hours. In the email, Microsoft also mentioned their website where it has placed a
wealth of information about Windows 7 and mentions the beta. This will likely be updated in the future.

Yes, that's right it's
finally here. The long awaited
Beta of Windows Defender
(formerly Windows Antispyware)
was recently released with the
new much anticipated GUI.

release comes a new and
supposedly much stronger
scanning engine. Also due to
the new scanning engine, the
program's real time
protection has also been
improved.

good news for X64 OS owners,
the beta has finally been made
available on the 64-bit

run.

moment the beta is only

Microsoft Blocks XP-to-Windows 7 Beta Upgrades
The version of Windows 7 Beta 1 that Microsoft made available for download on its Technet site Thursday does not support upgrades from systems running
its Windows XP operating system, according to a first look at the available code in the CRN Test Center. It does, however, permit upgrades from Vista
SP1 to Windows 7. A Microsoft spokesman said that no final decisions have yet been made about what will be included or not included in the generally
available version of Windows 7, but that the company as a practice advises only clean installations of operating systems during the beta phase anyway.

Neowin earlier reported that the RTM Escrow build of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 had been released to a group of internal
testers. Microsoft today released Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 RTM Escrow build to Connect beta testers. This build is
available on Windows Update for download and install or by a number of other package options such as Slipstream versions and Standalone installers,
for the Connect beta testers. The build string reads 6002.17043.090312-1835 which is different from the one we reported earlier. If you are a Windows
