Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline

It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

Windows XP SP3 Update Breaks Home Server Remote Access

Windows Home Server users are reporting Remote Access problems after updating their home computers to Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Following the update, attempting to access those home computers via Windows Home Server’s Remote Access features brings up a dialog asking the user to add their homeserver.com domain to the Trusted Sites list in Internet Explorer. However, after doing so, users are still not able to access those PCs.

The issue arises due to security changes in XP SP3 - namely, that the Terminal Services ActiveX control in Internet Explorer is disabled by default.

Microsoft breaks silence on Windows 7

Microsoft broke silence on its Windows 7 plans today in a blog post from Chris Flores.

In an honest post the Microsoft spokesperson killed off some rumours regarding Windows 7:

"Contrary to some speculation, Microsoft is not creating a new kernel for Windows 7. Rather, we are refining the kernel architecture and componentization model introduced in Windows Vista. While these changes will increase our engineering agility, they will not impact the user experience or reduce application or hardware compatibility. In fact, one of our design goals for Windows 7 is that it will run on the recommended hardware we specified for Windows Vista and that the applications and devices that work with Windows Vista will be compatible with Windows 7."

Flores also commented that "We are well into the development process of Windows 7, and we're happy to report that we're still on track to ship approximately three years after the general availability of Windows Vista."

So it looks like Microsoft are targeting a Q4 2009 RTM date and general availability before the holiday period of 2009 this time? A poll created by Microsoft follower Ed Bott put the date at September 30, 2009 which I think is very much spot on.
