27.11.2008Sundance Strikes iTunes Film Deal
It turns out Apple is not only
interested in movies and TV
shows but film festivals as
well; take the Sundance Film
Festival as an example.
Festival films, 33 of 71 to be
exact, will be sold through
the iTunes store for $1.99
(£1) beginning January 22. The
festival, which takes place in
Park City, Utah and debuts
January 18, will also stream
the films on their web site
for three months, free of
charge. Filmmakers will get
the bulk of the download
price, while Apple, the
Sundance Institute and cable
television's Sundance Channel
will split the remainder. Mr
Cooper said a few more films
will be shown just on the
website but full-length
festival films will not be
offered.
"Streaming on our site is
not the same as owning, and
there seems to be a world out
there for both. What Sundance
is really known for is as a
platform for people to sell
their films, and that's
mainly the feature film. We
didn't want to really
interfere with that yet,"
said John Cooper of the
Sundance Institute.

carry Live Earth, with a
three-hour primetime special
Saturday night on NBC plus 18
hours of live coverage on

lots of coverage on Sundance
Channel, Universal HD,
Telemundo and Mun2.
Microsoft's MSN has exclusive
online global rights.
In July 2005, Live
Earth's predecessor, Live 8,
drew so many complaints about
commercial interruptions that
MTV and VH1 acknowledged its
mistakes and ran five hours
each of commercial-free
coverage a week afterward.
This time, NBC Universal is
working with concert promoter
Kevin Wall and advertisers to
cut commercial time by about
50% per hour. There will be
more than 50 minutes of
program an hour (compared with
about 42 minutes normally).

Codes, however Microsoft is using HCCB bar codes so instead of storing the data using square pixels it uses triangle shapes and colours. The

servers. This way, you can include much more information, and more variety of information, then if it was just on the tag itself.
