Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline
It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

17.09.2009Google introduces new 'Go' programming language
Search, mail, mobile operating systems, advertising and mapping. These are all areas in which Google plays a big part. The company is ever expanding,
however, and today they've demonstrated that: Google has just introduced an entirely new programming language, taking influences from C++ and
Python, called, quite simply, Go. The language, which has a website here, "combines the development speed of working in a dynamic language like
Python with the performance and safety of a compiled language like C or C++," according to the blog post made by Google. To give you a sample of the
code, courtesy of TechCrunch, here is a simple 'Hello, World!' program. 05 package main 07 import fmt "fmt" // Package implementing
formatted I/O.

11.11.2009Microsoft declares its modeling love with a new language, 'D'
A handful of Microsofts top developers are working to create a new programming language, code-named "D," which will be at the heart of the
Microsofts push toward more intuitive software modeling.
D is a key component of Microsofts Oslo software-oriented architecture
(SOA) technology and strategy. Microsoft outlined in vague terms its plans and goals for Oslo in late fall 2007, hinting that the company had a new
modeling language in the works, but offering no details on what it was or when the final version would be delivered.
D will be a
declarative language aimed at non-developers, and will be based on eXtensible Application Markup Language (XAML), sources, who asked not to be named,
said.

05.02.2008EU Offers Translation Resource to Developers
The European Commission is offering translation software developers free access to around one million sentences translated between 22 of the European
Union's 23 official languages. It hopes the data will help improve the quality of a variety of language tools, including grammar and spelling
checkers, online dictionaries and machine translators-- particularly in less well-served languages such as Latvian or Romanian.
The sentences are mostly drawn from the "Acquis Communautaire," the body of law that must be implemented by all new E.U. member states, and
include the treaties, directives and regulations adopted by the E.U., and rulings from the European Court of Justice.
Translated
by professional translators, they cover topics such as IT, telecommunications, labor law, agriculture and fishing.

What are hot buttons for Microsoft on the programming-language futures front?
Several well-known Microsoft engineers, plus
programming-language gurus from other companies, are convening on the companys Redmond campus this week for its second Lang.Net symposium. The
three-day conference is all about the future of programming languages, managed execution environments, compilers, multi-language libraries, and
integrated development environments.
Im sitting in on a number of the sessions here. So far, the Softies whove presented are
focusing on whats currently available far more than on whats coming. Alas, no Visual Studio 10 mentions; no .Net Framework 4.0 mentions. Just lots of
coding demos and Q&A about programming techniques.

Mozilla and Microsoft Battle Over JavaScript
Mozilla CTO Brendan Eich, creator of the popular scripting language ECMAScript, better known as JavaScript, and Microsofts Chris Wilson, platform
architect of Microsofts Internet Explorer platform team, are trading heated rhetoric over the proposed next version of the language. Microsoft, whose
own version of JavaScript is called JScript, is quibbling with the ECMAScript Edition 4 effort, which is supported by Mozilla, maker of the Firefox
browser. " As Ive frequently spoken about publicly, compatibility with the current web ecosystem -- not breaking the Web -- is something we
take very seriously, " Wilson wrote on the Internet Explorer team blog this week. " In our opinion, a revolution in ECMAScript would be
best done with an entirely new language so we could continue supporting existing users as well as freeing the new language from constraints. "

MISSING: Vista Ultimate Language Packs
If you thought the Ultimate Extras situation couldnt get any worse, then you have much to learn young Jedi, because rock bottom is only an illusion.
It appears that what was left of the Ultimate Extras - 16 language packs (I know, they are counted as extras) - have now been sucked into the void of
unknown.
Whether this is a widespread technical glitch or intentional symptom as a result of upgrades to the backend in
preparations for more and better Ultimate Extras remains to be speculated. Even if all my moneys on a technical glitch, there is still a quantum
chance the Ultimate Extras team will deliver on their latest promise to ship the final version of DreamScenes and the remaining 20 Language Packs
before the end of summer (September).
However for those of you who are in need of their language fix, a Channel9 member has
kindly posted the language pack download links directly
