Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline
It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

15.1.2007Microsoft Puts FoxPro Out to Pasture
Microsoft has announced that
it will not be releasing any
new versions of its Visual
FoxPro development software
past Version 9.0, but the
company will continue to
support the technology through
2015. Instead of releasing new
versions of FoxPro, Microsoft
will release core portions of
the FoxPro software to its
CodePlex community development
site, said Alan Griver, a
group manager within the
Microsoft Visual Studio team,
which leads the FoxPro team.
Microsoft will
continue to support the Visual
FoxPro core until 2015 with
standard support through
January 2010 and extended
support through January 2015
via the developer tools
life-cycle support plan,
Microsoft officials said.
Meanwhile, some of the
FoxPro-related technology can
be seen in other Microsoft
products such as SQL Server,
Team Foundation Server and
various portions of the .Net
Framework, Griver said.
Indeed, some observers have
said they could detect a link
between FoxPro and
Microsoft's LINQ (Language
Integrated Query)
technology

12.10.2007Where have you gone, Visual FoxPro?
Visual FoxPro is no longer at the edge of Microsofts saber, but the database management system still commands a loyal following and invokes fond
memories of its heyday from the community that surrounded it.
In May, SD Times interviewed several members of the FoxPro
community, with an eye to documenting its contributions to contemporary technology.
śMy favorite thing about FoxPro is not
technological; it is the community that FoxPro inspired. Many developers live in houses that Fox
built,ť quipped Jim Duffy, a Microsoft
regional director and president of TakeNote Technologies, in reference to the original publishers of FoxPro, a company that Microsoft bought in 1992.
(Regional directors are volunteers recognized by Microsoft for their technical abilities.)

The release of the products comes at a time when news of legitimate Web sites being compromised by SQL
injections has become familiar in the headlines. Microsoft announced these products' availability June 24 in a security advisory. Two of the
tools, UrlScan Version 3.0 Beta and Microsoft Source Code Analyzer for SQL Injection Community Technology Preview, are the sole fruits of Microsoft.
The third, a Web site scanner called HP Scrawlr, was developed by Hewlett-Packard's Web Security Research Group in conjunction with Microsoft.

MSN puts ads on mobile phones
Microsoft began displaying advertisements to mobile users of its MSN site in the U.S. on Monday.Paramount Pictures and Jaguar Cars North America are
among the first companies to advertise on MSN Mobile in the U.S. Microsoft already displays mobile ads in Belgium, France, Japan, Spain, and the U.K.
The technology that presents the ads comes from ScreenTonic, a company that Microsoft acquired earlier this year.
Microsoft trails its
biggest competitors in the PC-based online advertising market in bringing ads to mobile users, but its late start may not have any significant effect.
"AOL and Yahoo have previously introduced display ads, but the mobile user base is still on the small side compared to the Net, so they're
not truly late," said Greg Sterling, an analyst following mobile search as part of a joint venture between Sterling Market Research and Opus
Research. "It's not like there's a huge opportunity cost here or revenue lost." Google also supports ads for mobile users.
