Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline
It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

22.07.2007How to request features in Microsoft products
Laurentiu Cristofor: I want to address the topic of requesting feature changes in Microsoft products, to point to some tools that can help, and to
describe ways to use those tools more effectively. This post is based on my experience working on customer requests while being a member of the
Microsoft SQL Server team, but you may find the information I provide here useful for other Microsoft products than SQL Server.
So, basically, the problem I am discussing here is that you are working on some project using Microsoft technology and you find out that your work
might be much easier if only some feature would be available. How can you ask Microsoft to add that feature to their product? One way to do this is to
contact technical support, but there are other ways that I want to address here.

08.02.2008McAfee Lauds Microsoft's Vista SP1 Security Overhaul
Back in the fall of 2006, McAfee, Symantec and Check Point fumed as Microsoft Vista's Security Center hid their products where only sophisticated and
dedicated customers could dig them out.
Not only that, Microsoft in effect hid its x64 kernel as well, putting it beyond the
reach of advanced security products.
The issue was twofold: First, security vendors contended, there wasn't good communication
between Vista interfaces and their existing security products, and second, security products couldn't effectively interface with the Vista kernel.
Microsoft listened.

30.08.2007Ever wonder what it takes to release products at Microsoft?
Bruce Evans, a Build Engineer
at Microsoft gives us some
insight into how software gets
built at Microsoft:
Like any company,
Microsoft balances shipping
products that people want, and
ensuring there are very few
bugs. Everyone knows the
longer you test a product,
ideally the fewer bugs are in
it when it ships. On the other
hand, the longer you test, the
less chance you get to make
the window of opportunity!
First of all,
products are built every day.
Microsoft builds from-source
using timestamps in the source
control system to ensure they
can re-build a product, in a
known way. Products are not
only compiled and linked, they
are built several ways:
release-quality,
debug-quality, code-coverage,
and up to 6 different ways to
inform developers and testers
that the code being shipped is
of reasonable quality, and
meets the legal requirements
set by Microsoft.
Additionally, each day
localized versions of the
product have to be produced,
and frequently each build is
run through a set of Build
Verification Tests (automated
tests to inform the team that
the build made the first cut
or not)...

eliminating completely include ResponsePoint phone system, its .Net Micro Framework, and its MSN Direct Service. The entire editorial staff of MSDN
Magazine and Tech-Net magazine were also eliminated, although it is uncertain if the magazines themselves survived. Windows, Office, Windows Live, and
Live Search were mostly unaffected. While 1,200 of those cuts came from Redmond, WA, other offices were hit including India, Ireland and the UK.

17.03.2009Microsoft AV Scan Engine Updating Issue
Microsoft is aware of an issue with the Microsoft AV engine not updating on some installations of Antigen and Forefront Server Security products. Not
all installations of the products are experiencing this issue, however all products may be affected.
The issue arose because the
aveMicrosoft.dll in one of the Microsoft AV engine updates was marked as hidden, causing all subsequent updates to fail when attempting to
delete this file. When that occurs, the engine is rolled back. This means that installations experiencing this problem are running with an outdated
version of the Microsoft AV engine.

limited and select customers/partners by invitation only. The number of participants in the TAP would be very less and work closely with the Microsoft
