Product key, which is a series of 25 characters serial key code string, is used by Windows operating system for several purposes.

15.04.2009Office 2007 Nukes the Insert
Key
Overtype mode, i.e. the way
Microsoft Office apps, in
particular Word, will
overwrite text in front of the
cursor as you type, without so
much as a beep, if you happen
to have pressed your Insert
key, has long been the scourge
of typists the world over, and
for a good long time there's
been real no reason for its
existence at all.
Finally Microsoft seems to
have realized this, as
according to Jan Miksovsky at
flow|state, Office 2007 will
have overtype mode, no matter
how many times you press the
Insert key, disabled by
default.
Of
course, there's still a
preference to re-enable the
"feature" since, as
Miksovsky says, "with a user
base the size of Microsoft's,
it's virtually guaranteed
that a large corporate
customer has a vocal
department that swears they
need Overtype mode, so
dropping the mode was probably
out of the question." Now,
can we get rid of the CAPS
LOCK key, next?

16.07.2006Office 2007 Is Running Late,

Office 2007 is now
officially a 2007
product . Sure,
Microsoft is still going to

the Office 2007 bits in

only volume licensees will

Microsoft appointed Office
chief Steven Sinofsky to move

27.06.2006Pirated Vista may be useless, Microsoft says
Microsoft said supposedly
pirated copies of its new
Vista computer operating
system "will be of limited
value" to those who use them.
Microsoft responded Tuesday to
reports that some Web sites
have been circulating pirated
copies of Vista and the Office
2007 applications suite.
The pirated Vista
comes with a product key that
users can enter to activate a
version of the products on
their computers without paying
for them, according to a
report on the Web site of The
Sydney (Australia) Morning
Herald newspaper. A product
key is a unique serial number
tied to each package of a
software product.
A second download, called an
"activation crack," can then
be applied that bypasses the
activation process intended to
guarantee that the Vista OS
being downloaded is
legitimate, the Herald
reported. Pirated copies of
Office 2007 can be downloaded
just with the product key with
no second activation code
required. But Microsoft said
in a prepared statement that
those pirated copies of the OS
won't work for long.

15.08.2007Office 2007 Hold-Up Likely to
Affect Vista
Citing "performance issues",
Microsoft said last week that
it will not release Office
2007 to enterprises until
"the end of 2006". The
consumer launch will take
place some time in "early
2007".
But
David Bradshaw, an analyst
with Ovum, said: "It seems
sensible to keep Office 2007
in step with Vista, and Vista
is already delayed, so this is
not entirely surprising to
us.
"There is
wide speculation that Vista
will be delayed again, and
this would be an embarrassment
for Microsoft.
"Vista is a much more
ambitious project than Office
2007, and has already seen
several delays. Microsoft may
face the same decision again:
whether to postpone Office
2007 or launch it without
Vista."
The
analyst suggested that
delaying Office 2007 will have
a minimal impact on
Microsoft's product revenues
as most customers will buy
Office only when they need it,
for example when they upgrade
to new computers.
The rescheduling marks the
second delay to Office 2007
this year. Microsoft said in
March that it would hold back
the release to coincide with
the launch of Windows
Vista.

04.07.2006Office 2007: First impressions of an average user
OK, well perhaps I am not the
average user, but I can say
with my hand on my heart that
I have never installed any of
the Office 2007 Betas and, for
what it's worth, not really
followed the Office 2007
developement program with as
much energy as others.
So, overnight I
fired-up my Technet Plus
subscription and downloaded
Office 2007 Professional with
a view to evaluating the final
product. The first thing I
noticed was the choice of
versions available...one of
the things I actually was
aware of from the various news
posts here at bink.nu.
Looking through the programs
available for each version I
settled on the Pro download.
At 410meg it wasn't that
large, I certainly expected a
bigger download. Nice to see.
I let it download whilst I
caught up on my beauty
sleep.
The install
of Office 2007 was
fantastically simple. I mean
that, in fact, I can't
believe how much so. Finally,
a Microsoft app that asks me
for my product key up front
and then doesn't bother me
again until the end! The
install removed my Office 2k3
install and put down 2007. As
smoothly as I could have ever
wanted.
Again,
having not really spent much
time going over beta
screenshots like some people
do, I was really taken back by
the UI in Word. Outlook was
about as I expected, but Word
and Excel really threw
me...for about 4 minutes.
Seriously, that's all it
took. The UI is simple, makes
a lot of sense, and wasn't
hard at all to 'master'.
OK, 1 vote from me.

05.12.2006Office 12 Christened Office
2007
Microsoft is now referring to
the next version of its
desktop office suite,
code-named "Office 12," as
"Office 2007." Microsoft
watcher Steven Bink is
reporting that Microsoft
officials used the Office 2007
name at IT Forum.
He also points to an
Office Online page that uses
the same terminology.
Microsoft officials have held
fast to the company line that
Office 12 will ship towards
the end of calendar 2006. But
one member of the Office
family, Exchange 12, already
is on its way to becoming a
2007 deliverable. Will Office
12 slip into 2007? We'll keep
you posted.

26.01.2006Office 2007: 70 million not served
It sounded too good to be true. And it turns out it was.
A report last week that Microsoft had sold 70 million copies of Office
2007 since the product was released to manufacturing turned out to be wrong. Officials with Microsoft France allegedly told press last week that
Microsoft had sold 70 million copies of Office 2007 since Microsoft made the product available at the end of 2006.
I asked
Microsoft whether that number which seemed awfully high, given that Windows Vista just hit the 60-million-copies-sold mark in July was accurate.
Last week, officials declined to comment on Office 2007 sales. But in responding to IBMs unveiling of a new Microsoft Office competitor known as IBM
Lotus Symphony, Microsoft shed more light on that 70 million figure.
In response to IBMs September 18 announcement, Microsoft
released the following comment from Jacob Jaffe, Director of Microsoft Office...

30.06.2006Office 14 to be named Microsoft Office System 2009?
Microsoft is currently developing the successor to Office 2007, Office codenamed "14". There has been little to no information on the upcoming
Office version and many have speculated we might not see the product until 2010. Microsoft failed to provide any solid information at last years PDC,
choosing to focus on its Office Live offerings. Eagled eyed Microsoft enthusiast and blogger Stephen Chapman has spotted what appears to be an
internal software roadmap from Microsoft. The roadmap reveals a milestone of year end 2009 but the dates aren't very clear: In the roadmap you
can see that Office 14 is clearly identified as Microsoft Office System 2009.

06.11.2006Will free office suites supplant Microsoft as the industry leader?
Quite a bit of talk has arisen today over two of Microsoft's competitors (Google and IBM) offering free office suites in an attempt to supplant
Microsoft as the office king. And now that this is happened, some are wondering if Microsoft will finally face reality and offer its own Office
product for free so it can compete.
The possibility of having Word, Excel, Powerpoint and the rest for free sure sounds awfully
nice, but if you think Microsoft would give it up for free, you're dreaming.
As NPD announced just last week, Office 2007 is
performing extremely well. According to the research firm, Office 2007 on Windows is selling at roughly double the rate of Office 2003. Will two free
solutions alter the unprecedented sales figures Microsoft is currently enjoying? Not a chance.
As someone who has used both
Google's Office Suite and another free product, OpenOffice, I can say that neither of those programs can possibly stack up to Windows Office. Believe
me, I wish I could say that both do, but the sad truth is they don't.
