We considered more radical departures from our current logo, but blue ?e? with the ring is very recognizable and familiar to users, so we elected instead to make more subtle changes.

The new Intel processor, codename 'Yonah', announced for the 3rd of January 2006, will according to X86-secret simply be called 'Core Solo' or 'Core Duo'. Depending on the amount of cores (no way! where did they come up with that). It's more than 10 years ago since Intel created ax X86-architecture CPU that wasn't called 'Pentium'. Machines with Centrino CPU's will also get a new sticker-logo from now on, saying only 'Centrino', without the real CPU name. The amount of cores will still be mentioned on the sticker.

Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline
It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

1.12.2008Windows 7 Beta Testing Will Be A Windows Vista Logo Requirement
Even before Microsoft has published the first beta of Windows 7 it is
working to ensure it will not repeat the
same failings of Windows Vista. In a March 21 2008 update to the
Microsoft Hardware Logo Program
Requirements Microsoft added a new provision for Logo Certification which will require every one requesting Windows Vista logo certification to
submit a test logs from Windows 7 as well, once a beta is available.
This new policy, which will become effective June 1, 2008,
says there is no requirement that you pass the Windows 7 test to get your Windows Vista Logo Certification, just that you submit it and resolve any
issue found before launch of the next OS (Windows 7).

25.10.2008Update on Certified for Windows Vista
Brandon LeBlanc: I caught up with Deryl McCartney, Marketing Manager for the Windows Vista Logo Program, to get a general update on Certified for
Windows Vista product as of today.
Just to re-cap: Certified for Windows Vista products are products that carry the above logo.
This logo represents a group of applications and hardware that have gone through an extensive certification process that means they work great with
Windows Vista. We want users who are looking for devices, applications, or PC components to easily be able to identify the ones that will give them
the best experience in Windows Vista today. When I go into a store looking for something for my PCs I always "
look for the logo ".
As
of April, we currently have over 5,000 products that are Certified for Windows Vista. Since last July, the amount of Certified for Windows Vista
products has almost doubled! As you can see - we've seen quite a bit of growth with new Certified for Windows Vista products entering the market.

14.11.2007Windows 7 to have only one "compatible" logo
The Register is reporting on an interesting story from WinHEC about how Microsoft is
planning to change how it will run the “compatible with Windows 7” logo program.
Microsoft seems to have learnt its lesson
after the disaster that was the Vista compatible program which had 4 different logos and would eventually see Microsoft ending up in court facing a
class action lawsuit.
Microsoft confirmed to partners on Wednesday that there would only be a single sticker that covers all PC’s
peripherals and software that has been certified to work with Windows 7 when it’s released.
The changes are timed to coincide with
Microsoft’s continued push towards Windows 7, helping partners to start developing products earlier than with Vista, which had only a relatively
small number of compatible programs ready when it launched.

13.12.2007Microsofts releases Alpha of Windows 7 Software Logo Toolkit
As we had with Windows Vista, Windows 7 will sport a similar "Software Logo Program", assuring the applications customers purchase are fully
compatible with the new operating system and
just work, assuming the application carries the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo.
Of course, the logo can't just be handed out willy-nilly and programs must meet a strict set of technical requirements in order to qualify. To help
developers with the process of testing their applications,
Microsoft
announced today the first Alpha release of the Windows 7 Software Logo Toolkit.
The toolkit is an automated and lightweight
command-line tool which verifies whether an application meets the specified requirements:
- Comply with Anti-Spyware Coalition Guidelines
- Do not modify Windows Resource Protections (WRP) protected resources
- Ensure ongoing quality
- Technical Requirements
-
Clean, reversable installation
- Install to the correct folders by default
- Digitally sign files and drivers
- Support x64 version
of Windows
- Do not block installation or application launch based on OS version check
- Follow User Account Control (UAC) Guidelines
- Adhere to Restart Manager Messages
- Do not load Services and Drivers in Safe Mode
- Support Multiuser Sessions
In order
to download the toolkit, you must first
opt-in for updates on the Connect
program. Alternatively, we could just save you the trouble and provide you with the universal invitation code, like so: LOGO-RX8Y-64B9. Once you're
in, the toolkit and its accompanying documentation can be found under the program's Downloads page.

20.09.2007Apple accuses web design school of using their logo
A Saanich web design school is holding its ground, following a threat by Apple to take legal action if the local firm does not change a corporate logo
it has used since 2005.
Calling his company a dedicated customer that uses Apple hardware and software almost exclusively in its
operation, Victoria School of Business and Technology vice-president Christopher Boag said he and partner Dieter Gerhard were surprised to receive a
strongly worded letter with no advance warning.
"It was a total shock," he said. "It was like the small guy was kind of getting blown
away and Apple was pushing hard in order to get us to (submit to their demands)."
Boag and Gerhard argue that the apple is a
"traditional representation of education" and that the logo in question, which incorporates the mountain logo of a sister company and has the words
VSBT in one corner, in no way can be confused with the Apple logo.
