LG Launches Microsoft-Powered DVR
Aiming to take on the popular TiVo DVR, LG on Wednesday introduced its combination digital video recorder and DVD recorder based on Microsoft technology. The LRM-519 would be the first set-top device to use the Microsoft Program Guide, a TiVo-like service being offered by the Redmond company.
The device includes a 160GB hard drive and will run on Windows Media Center Technologies. The DVD recorder will support a range of recording formats, including DVD+R, DVD-R and DVD+R Dual Layer discs. Users will also be able to expand the storage space of the unit by connecting external hard drives to the DVR's 2 USB ports.

If you're a Windows Mobile fan Microsoft has just launched a technical preview of it's upcoming release of Microsoft Recite. The application
will record short clips of notes, and you can later search for a specific phrase and be displayed by shades of blue in order of the strongest result.
The application doesn't use voice recognition but uses voice patterns, which has been noted to give better results when searching through your
notes. It's as simple as one, two, three: During this technical preview only a limited number of devices are officially supported.

is not just a rebranding of Microsoft's previous search site Live Search but is a major update introducing new features and a new interface,
touted as a "decision engine". Having been in internal testing for a while under the codename of Kumo, Bing was unveiled today - as expected - at
the All Things Digital D7 conference by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Bing is expected to start rolling out in the coming days with worldwide
availability expected by June 3.

The Cuban government has launched its own Linux distribution, dubbed "Nova", this week as it attempts to drive up the use of Linux in the country,
and to lead the country away from what it views as U.S. dominance. According to Reuters, Cuba sees the use of Microsoft's operating system as a
potential threat, because "U.S. security agencies have access to Microsoft codes." Until May last year, citizens of Cuba were not allowed to own a
computer, but when PCs went on sale, they came pre-installed with Microsoft Windows XP, despite the U.S. trade embargo on Cuba.

is aimed at 8-10 year olds. It is actually a form of web messaging, but requires a download and installs a executable. A Microsoft Spokesperson told
me in an e-mail that, "Windows Live Messenger for kids is specifically designed to provide a safe entry in the Instant Messaging world." The concept
behind this release is that parents are the ones who create the account for their children and are present when they sign in. The parents must then
approve who appears in the contact list.
