M1 dogfood build review and screenshots
Looks like its open-season on Wave 3 now, with Inky over at Mess.be getting his hands on the
Wave 3 Milestone 1 installer for Windows Live Messenger. While Inky may be obsessed with version numbers and about screens, we’re more
interested in what’s going on in terms of new integration across services. Its now been 9 months since the launch of Messenger 8.5, Mail and
Photo Gallery as part of Wave 2, but as this is only a first milestone, there’ll be other internal updates before a version gets released to the
public. That said, there’s still some positive signs that the eventual Messenger v9 release is going to be good.

04.12.2008Microsoft sends out Windows Live Messenger 9.0 beta invites
No sooner has the Windows Live Wave 2 suite been released than the first Wave 3 beta begins - Windows Live Messenger v9. Unlike the betas that have
just finished, the Messenger v9 beta is being run from Microsoft Connect as a private beta, meaning that, for the moment at least,
unless you receive an invite, you won't be able to
participate.
For the moment it looks like most previous Windows Live testers are getting invites, so stay tuned to your inbox.
With such a popular beta like this, you better sign up quick.
So what's new? While the goodies aren't yet available, we've
heard about Multiple Points Of Presence (MPOP) support, which allows you to signin from multiple devices, ie be online at two places at once.

06.10.2008Windows Live Messenger 9 to have WPF effects
You may have
already
heard that, along with the rest of Windows Live wave 3, the next version of Windows Live Messenger (version 9.0) will have a new user
interface.
After being tipped off by an unaffiliated yet trustworthy source who – naturally – doesn't want to be
identified, Messenger Stuff can now reveal that the new interface will use the graphics effects available through
WPF , where
supported.
To put it simply, this finally means that we will see transparency effects in the various windows of the program,
possibly similar to those already seen in Yahoo! Messenger for Vista. We are
led to believe that the actual design has not changed much but the WPF effects have been integrated well in what is bound to be a popular new
addition.

Google to announce how to host your own Google Wave server
TheNextWeb is reporting that Google may be set to announce Google Wave servers for federation later today. Currently Google has two Wave
infrastructures available to those outside the company, the first is the developer preview sandbox which has been available since Google I/O earlier
year and the second is the mass consumer preview which was opened up to 100,000 participants in September. Google is expected to allow companies and
end users to build and host their own Wave servers. These servers will be able to talk to other Wave servers. TheNextWeb claims that Google Wave
co-founder Lars Rasmussen has confirmed Google plans on opening up the sandbox infrastructure for federation later today. More details are expected to
follow shortly.

Windows Live Web Messenger Hits Dogfood Stage
We've gone from MSN Messenger 7.5 to Windows Live Messenger 8.5 in just over a year, but it's been a long while since we've seen any updates to the
popular web client, MSN Web Messenger.
Yesterday however, we finally received a glimmer of light into the seemingly fading
messenger, after the new Windows Live Web Messenger hit the dogfood stage for internal testing by Microsoft Employees.
The
client, seen here, appears to be sporting the new
Windows Live Wave 2.0 UI as well as the much awaited "tabbed" conversations.
Unfortunately, there is no word yet on when we may
see a beta version of the web client. However, if you would like to get some early suggestions in, feel free to post them on the Facebook Group the team created for the general public.

Features and screenshots of the new Windows Live Messenger v9
Mess.be: A few days ago we obtained the latest installer for Windows Live Messenger, version "2009". We were asked to keep it quiet for now, but of
course we couldn't contain our excitement and had to let all messers out there know about the new stuff. The most noticeable is of course the new
look, with colors and headers resembling the new Windows Live header that has been discussed by Liveside
before. On top of that, it looks like all the various dialogs are now also properly styled like Windows Live Messenger, rather than having the
"old" Windows look. Here, why don't you have a look for yourself...

Google Wave unveiled: a communication revolution?
Lars and Jens Rasmussen, brothers whose mapping company was bought by Google in 2004 and formed the basis for Google Maps, have become key figures in
the development of Google Wave, a real-time collaboration tool and open-source protocol that people can use in their browsers and embed in their
websites without cost. Google Wave will not be controlled by Google but rather, according to CNet, "federated": anyone can set up a Wave server.
And, because it is open source, anyone can add to the project to tailor it more to their own needs or the needs of specialised groups.

Broadscale Windows Live Wave 3 beta begins
According to the independent LiveSide.net site that tracks all things Microsoft-Live-related, Microsoft is kicking off the official Windows
Live Wave 3 family of betas on September 17 and they have a download link from Microsoft.com to prove it.
Wave 3 is the
newest release of the core Windows Live suite of software and services. In the new suite, unified via a common installer, are updated versions of
Windows Live Messenger instant-messaging; Windows Live Mail (with a new and improved Live Calendar); Windows Live Writer blog-posting tool; Windows
Live Movie Maker; Windows Live Photo Gallery, the Family Safety parental control tools and the Outlook Connector.

Countdown to Windows Live Wave 2, Messenger 8.5 final release
A "mysterious" counter has appeared on Microsoft properties around the web (and
now on Mess.be as well) which counts down to November 7th (0:01 AM). The included images of a letter, an emoticon, a folder and a photograph, are
enough a hint that this countdown refers to the official launch of Windows Live Wave 2, and that we can expect the final versions of Windows Live
Mail, Photo Gallery, Family Saftey, etc. within about 30 hours.
This includes, of course, the final release of Windows Live
Messenger 8.5, although the lack of Beta-tags in the most recent version made it look as if it was already out of beta. Let's hope the issues covered
in the knowledge base articles posted earlier today will all be fixed.
There's another big thing all set to launch at the same
time, but we'll have to leave you in the dark about that one for a little longer. Just keep an eye on this space for all the news.
