14.12.2005Windows Live Messenger Screens Removed
Some members have expressed a deep concern about Neowin showcasing screenshots of Windows Live Messenger 9, they say it breaches the non disclosure
agreement (NDA) they signed with Microsoft.
While this new version is most definitely not a state secret, and widely known on most if not
all tech related websites (even as far as listing the new features), we have decided to pull the screenshots due to claims that the beta could be
comprimised should it not remain low-key. I know that new software from Microsoft such as Live Messenger generates a lot of interest for those not
lucky enough to be on the beta, but we reckon it's a good idea to wait until Microsoft formally announces the beta of Windows Live Messenger and
makes it available to a wider audience.
So for now, good luck Live Messenger team and those who are testing it!
Update: I'd
like to point out to avoid confusion that we were not contacted by Microsoft, I consulted an MS contact on this matter myself.

01.03.2006Windows Live Messenger 9.0 Beta program frustrates testers
The first Windows Live Messenger 9.0 Beta build was released in November 2007. The release brought the ability to sign into Messenger from up to four
computers at once, the ability to choose customized sounds for your sign-in and for your contacts, URLs in Personal Status Messages, and Animated
Display Pictures. However, features requested across the many Messenger programs such as Tabbed Conversations and the ability to decline a group
conversation invite were nowhere to be seen.

14.05.2008Messenger Plus! Live Public
Beta?
Patchou has posted a thread on
the Messenger Plus! Forums
saying that we can expect a
public beta version of
Messenger Plus! Live within
the next 30 Days.
Patchou has stated that the
beta version will be a
"pretty reliable product". I
think this is a good move, as
Windows Live Messenger is
still in beta it will be good
for the public to test out
Messenger Plus! Live.
Patchou has noticed
the huge demand for the
product, and because of
Windows Live Messenger's big
new promotion more and more
people want Messenger Plus!
Live.
The beta
will be as stable as possible,
and not be meant for reporting
bugs etc, but to make people
happy using the software.

14.01.2006Microsoft sends out Windows Live Messenger 9.0 beta invites
No sooner has the Windows Live Wave 2 suite been released than the first Wave 3 beta begins - Windows Live Messenger v9. Unlike the betas that have
just finished, the Messenger v9 beta is being run from Microsoft Connect as a private beta, meaning that, for the moment at least,
unless you receive an invite, you won't be able to
participate.
For the moment it looks like most previous Windows Live testers are getting invites, so stay tuned to your inbox.
With such a popular beta like this, you better sign up quick.
So what's new? While the goodies aren't yet available, we've
heard about Multiple Points Of Presence (MPOP) support, which allows you to signin from multiple devices, ie be online at two places at once.

21.11.2007Windows Live Messenger and Live Suite Wave 3 released (RC)
Microsoft has just made the updated release candidate of the Windows Live Suite wave 3 at download.live.com. Thanks to Sean Bradford for alerting
us. Microsoft has updated the Messenger client to Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8050.1202) as can be seen below from the about Window: There is no beta
tag anywhere on this build as it's a near final build and Messenger plus does work with this build but not all features are usable. Overall the
UI has been enhanced in most areas with minor changes. The main improvements are the integration to Windows 7 with the new jump lists feature.

15.12.2008Windows Live Messenger Managed
Beta Ends
A few minutes ago, Microsoft
sent a very special e-mail
message to all Windows Live
Messenger Managed Beta
testers, which marks the end
of the program. The e-mail
message mentions a few of the
improved areas in Windows Live
Messenger and of course,
thanks all beta-testers for
their bug reporting and
such.
Quote:
Dear Windows
Live Messenger Beta Tester,
As we get
closer to the final release of
Windows Live Messenger 8.0, it
is time that the managed beta
come to a close. Thank you for
all your wonderful
contributions to this beta and
for putting the voice of the
customer into our best version
of Messenger yet. Here are few
of the many areas where your
feedback made a difference:
-Improved
sign-in performance. Thanks to
your feedback, Windows Live
Messenger 8.0 has the fastest
sign-in of any version of
Messenger.
-New UI and
color changing. After many
tries, your feedback helped us
"get it right."
-Great new features such as
Sharing Folders, Offline IM
and Live Contacts. You found
many great bugs that improved
the quality of each of
these.
-Overall
quality. Your relentless
testing and reporting of
memory leaks, crashes and UI
glitches greatly improved this
version of Messenger.

13.06.2006Mac Mojo: Audio/Video support in Messenger for Mac next year
One of the nifty features missing in the Messenger for Mac is Audio/Video (A/V) support. It is not possible to do a video or audio chat using the
Messenger for Mac. The recent update, Messenger for Mac 7 added A/V support for corporate services (works with Office Live Communications Server 2007)
but not for personal services(Windows Live Services). Mac Mojo, the Office for Mac team announced today that A/V support for personal services will be
available next year as an update on Messenger for Mac. Mac Mojo team said that the new release of Windows Live Messenger, which is currently in beta
delivers a new A/V protocol which makes easier to deliver A/V support in Messenger for Mac.

21.12.2005Windows Live Messenger 9.0 Beta Begins Today
Microsoft is expected to officially open the beta program for Windows Live Messenger 9.0 this afternoon (or early evening). Windows Live Messenger 9.0
is the next generation of Windows Live Messenger; this release is a "major" release and as such there will be no further interim builds for
Windows Live Messenger. The beta program for Windows Live Messenger is by invitation only and those invitations were sent out last week on Tuesday -
Wednesday (the 21st, and 22nd respectively). Currently the beta program has been limited to 5,000 testers and will later be expanded to a larger
group.
As reported by several sites, the program was not put on hold at all due to the feature list being leaked over the holiday weekend,
additionally, sites also reported that some testers had already gotten the build and that was just a rumor. Coincidentally, almost all of the sites
that had posted the feature list for Windows Live Messenger had politely removed the list of features. Again, the beta program is expected to
officially start this afternoon or early evening. We will be updating this post when the build is released on Microsoft’s Connect web site. We
will share more information as it comes in and we will share as much information as we are allowed to by our non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

03.02.2009MSN Gets Another Feature!
Just when you thought there
wouldn't be anything else
interesting for messenger to
surface, think again! The good
people from the Live Messenger
Beta Team have once again
launched yet another feature.
"Mimic" is
the new feature that was just
launched today for MSN
Messenger.
Accessible from the
activities menu just like the
last feature "Music Mix,"
"Mimic" is an add-on that is
for people that enjoy playing
pranks on their friends. This
new feature is also good for
people that just want to
pretend they are someone
they're really not. Along
with this feature there are 8
different ?personas? to choose
from.
At this
point it hasn't been
clarified as to when "Mimic"
will be available for Windows
Live Messenger. After the
Windows Live Messenger team
released the "Music Mix"
feature to work with MSN, we
can only hope that they add
"Mimic" soon to Live
Messenger!
