11.04.2009New test release of Microsoft's App-V for Windows 7 available
Microsoft posted for download on February 27 of an update to its App-V virtualization product that is designed to work with the Windows 7 Beta.
App-V is based on the SoftGrid technology Microsoft acquired in early 2006 when it bought Softricity. App-V
lets users run applications without actually installing them on a local machine. This allows
companies who want to make available a single image of Office or a custom line-of-business application to multiple users by pushing it out to them
without having to touch each desktop. It also enables users run applications virutally that might conflict if run simultaneously on their Windows
machines.

28.09.2009App Store: 15,000 apps and 500m downloads
Apple Inc. is celebrating a huge App Store milestone: 500 million downloads, and over 15,000 apps in the store. The announcement is proudly displayed
on the Apple home page, showcasing some of the most popular apps. Apple launched the App Store just six months ago, on July 11, 2008. The store
started with 552 applications and a slew of problems. Developers staged boycots and complained about the Non-Disclosure Agreement which held them back
from sharing information or code, followed by complaints about alphabetical ordering on the App Store (application names would cleverly start with a
space to promote them to the top), and most recently, rejected apps due to either duplicating iPhone/iPod Touch functionality or "limited utility".

Apple's App Store said to bring in $2.4B annual revenue
Apple's App Store is, arguably, the best thing to happen to the company in the last few years (not including the iPhone, but the two go hand in
hand). It's certainly the biggest improvement to their iPhone and iPod touch platforms, and with over 40 million of those devices sold, it's
no wonder that developers are keen to get their applications on the store. However, this isn't just a good place to get sales for developers...
it's also a wonder for Apple itself, as, according to AppleInsider, it is bringing in nearly $200M monthly, adding up to approximately
$2.4B annual revenue. The estimation comes from the latest AdMob Mobile Metrics Report for July 2009, packing some interesting statistics.

Reaching yet another milestone, Apple's App Store has broken the 100,000 approved applications mark. According to TheNextWeb, Apple has approved
101,713 applications and games. Of course, not all of these are available immediately as many have just been accepted. The App Store currently has
93,000 released applications. This is up from a reported 65,000 in August. According to iPhonesTalk, analysts have predicted the 200,000 mark will be
reached next year and by the end of 2010, there will be 250,000 applications. Some recent additions to the app store include an app from NASA which
brings countdown clocks, videos and Twitter feeds to the iPhone. Reportedly, this app will even let you know when the Space Station is passing

Notebook players paying close attention to multi-touch
Hewlett-Packard (HP) is planning to stir up the touch panel notebook market with multi-touch technology at the end of this year, and with Windows 7,
which according to Microsoft will include features to take advantage of multi-touch capabilities, on the horizon, notebook industry players are paying
close attention to the development of multi-touch technologies.
Touch panel tablet PCs are mostly niche market products currently and
usually single-touch only due to costs and limited software support. However, notebook industry players believe multi-touch has the potential to take
off in the mainstream market thanks to handset devices such as the iPhone. Windows 7 will also be key for promoting multi-touch since it enables
multi-touch interfaces as part of the Windows operating system, the sources noted.
